swordofkings128, nickmasterx, Massy2k6, Renegade, Ragnar: Thank you all for comments/feedback. The zelda music I wanted because i enjoyed the world so much so it was a bit of an inspiration for me. I would love to make a full game if I had the time lol. Hopefully I can slowly start to make something out of this though, I think it'd be great if I did. And that map only took me maybe 2 hours or so to make. But that was after spending 6 to 10 hours practicing, learning the engine, reading tutorials and watching tutorial videos. But the engine is fairly simple to use if you know your way around it.

With the Unity engine. Im just practicing with it for the first time. But my practice game is something zelda esq.

So in the video I am testing out animations, particles, and the physics component.

Thanks man, yours doesnt look half bad itself.
So this time you can sorta see the particles, I also figured out how to add various textures to the terrain, grass, and  a more realistic building method which I guess u cant see in the pic.

Sano I think if you are planning to keep going with that style then you need to move the hell off RM2K3. Getting everything to blend well enough on that engine is going to be nothing but a pain.

True, there is some color loss. But really it works quite well. I think the biggest draw back is the resolution. But I tried gamemaker and honestly I dont have the time to learn a language. Got so much to do  :hmm:

Thanks, I'm still figuring stuff out but sound advice. I might just go for the default rain.

@Clucky: Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll adjust the cutscene bar so its a bit transparent and similar to the other. Also I wanna have a day and night cycle with rain based on day and season so it would fluctuate around.

ARGH- trying to start my own game. I had the "bright idea" to use a panorama for my world map so I could avoid blocky edges, but I'm not certain it's going to work in practice, as I'd have to figure out how to get the ocean chips to align with the blue areas (or redo the backdrop to fit them) and probably make the towns and cities part of the background.. That's a placeholder character BTW.

Panaromas are the easiest way to go for this:

It only took me 2 hours to make this map, but you could easily use this in an rm project.

@Brown: lol yeah I noticed that.
@Nessiah: That looks pretty slick, actually looks like a gba game.

@IceManual: I just finished making a tutorial to help those interested in how to improve their maps just like how I "improved" your cave map. http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=81074.0 Check it out. I hope it helps you guys.

Damn, top of the page. Well I might as well show what the tutorial offers. Basically it shows how to turn your maps from this to this:

It is a bit rough, but feel free to use it.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I see what you are saying about the water Clucky that can be fixed easily enough. Yes the walking is 8 way and I am trying out Game maker so this is all for practice.

These houses are not my own work, but I wanted to try out a different style. What do you guys think?

Its not always constructive here, that much is true. But most of us are not professionals in video game making, so you can't expect people to always be professional in terms of feedback. I say if people are willing to be polite and constructive than I try to listen. On the other hand I have had plenty of people tell me and others things that can at times be very rude. Safe to say I just ignore those sort of people.

Good luck to you

Edit: I finished designing a store for that town, also isometric.
