There is so much potential in this idea.. It would be nice to see a collection of short games based on various old testament stories. David and Goliath, The Exodus, The Ark etc... You could even go for The Passion2k3.. I dunno.

Mars is too small to keep a strong enough atmosphere for anything more than the simplest introduced life. Also it's not as well protected as Earth magnetically so solar winds and lesser gravity would mean always fighting a losing battle. The pressure is so low in comparison with earth, instantly lethal to living tissue, plus it's distance is another problem in terms of climate.
It would always be more trouble than it's worth attempting anything approaching terraforming. If that's even possible.

However, I've been following the Phoenix mission closely, because it is quite exciting for me. I'd like to see a base there eventually and any signs of life would be very important if discovered. Especially when you think that we have no reason to believe that life exists anywhere else in the universe.
If you do believe that, then it's more like religion because it needs faith! SO DON'T GO BASHING RELIGIOUS MANS! Of course, any discovery would give us good ammunition against religion (though they's probably worm their way around that one too).

I think people should do a little research into the brain to dispell ideas of a soul. If you understand even a tiny bit about the workings of the brain you'd realise that our thoughts are not arbitrarily ethereal but strictly biologically mechanic. When you die your brain stops working.

However, we do not understand the nature of time and space with respect, as mentioned before, to existing in a 'moment' of the 'present'. But as far as post mortal existance goes, unless the present and past and future are not completely seperate and there exists some kind of medium on which to record your "existance" and there is opportunity for this 'moment' to be replayed (which asks for a medium on which to "play" the "recording") as far as we're all concerned it's the end.

I love this place!

But in all seriously... I think everyone knows someone close who's had problems with drugs. Also, I think it's normal to experiment (dunno how old you are, guessing 18, 19 or something due to the fact you were talking about uni).
If you believe there is a problem, then more than likely there is, but it's not unusual for people to use extasy casually, same for coke. Normally it reduces as people get older (wiser?) but it's important for the people to be surrounded by "normal" people. It gives the idea of perspective.

All you can do it be there as someone who doesn't use, as a friend. For sure it'll be an influence. Don't start throwing bibles or anything though, that probs won't help.

If you want to hear some of the explanations creationists give to warp their flawed ideas around fact, just go along to www.creationism.org and listen to the mp3 section. This dude is actually for real.

I love how people will believe in God. Many years ago it was agreed (by believers) God created the heavens and the earth, animals and what not. Now, as always happens when science faces religion in some context; religion fails, people will believe in theories of, for example, the big bang, but wait! God created that too! They have wriggled and wrapped their God around the science that defeated the old belief. Of course this is a simplified idea but it illustrates the point that religion will always fail when in contest with science.
Science is built on irrefutable fact. Religion doesn't have a scrap of fact to call it's own and has always been defeated in contest with science. That's why the church fears science and has, in the past, tried to discredit discoveries and punish scientists.

Also, it seems that from reading this thread, a lot of people don't have a good understanding of the theory of natural selection or have invented their own ideas around what they percieved it to be.

I do not respect beople's belief in God. If it gives you some kind of comfort like a fairy story does a child, fair enough, I can't say that's a bad thing but it's not worthy of any kind of respect. I don't want to offend anyone, you probably don't even want my respect (it's not worth much anyway).

I can't recreate the taste but only remember, like Chesh had said, that it's good, sweet, sour, fishy etc.. Same goes for smells. I know that a fart generally smells bad (except mine which smell of roses) but I can't imagine and 'smell' it in that moment. (Though sometimes if I squeeze really hard I can recreate certain smells).

But smelling something really brings back other memories, such as doing something, being somewhere etc.. I read that smell is the most evocative sense, so no surprise. Also, music is very evocative for me, which I assume is normal.

Another thing which is vaguely related to this is the question of the child that is born without any senses. No sight, hearing, tough, smell or taste. Would the child have any thoughts? The ability to think?
I believe it was Kant who posed the question and studied it, though could be mistaken. I remember reading about it in another book (Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance) so, yeah..

EDIT It was Hume.

I like glam metal more than other types of music. It's more than just music, it's the whole deal; the songs, the bands, the clothes, the makeup, the attitude, the personalities. The whole fictional world of glam where all that glitters really is gold!

I liked the way the camera work and colours set the tone and ambiance for the video and the story worked well together in this style. I think that the expression of art was stronger in this than any of their previous works and had a lot of gravity. Only Joking. I liked the bit with tits.

I think that 'Back In Black' is a very well produced album. When you think that it was recorded back in 1980 and it sounds good even today. Especially considering how dated Fly on the Wall, Razor's Edge and Blow up your video sound which came after.
I don'r really know anything about the technical side of things but it sounds good for a rock album even on vinyl.
