Erave, if you have the game, please finish it soon. I've been waiting since January 2008...

Sorry if the title doesn't make much sense. Couldn't figure out anything better.

Anyway, so I came home from school today, ate some lunch and then rested on the sofa flipping through music channels when suddenly I came across a channel called Starz TV (this is Sky Digital by the way). Normally I would skip to the next channels seeing as I don't really like the music that Starz TV airs. The reason I stopped though was this:

Hear anything familiar? If you've ever played Chrono Cross you should. The video I posted featured a sample of the Chrono Cross track "On the Beach of Dreams ~Another World~". Here's the original in case you've never heard it:

Now I'm left wondering if there are any other cases of video game music crossing over to mainstream (although the example I provided wouldn't exactly be called mainstream) music? I know of the FFVII rap, but is there anything else? I find it pretty interesting and would be surprised to see something other than rap and hip-hop sampling it. By the way, no mash ups unless they're really good. Here's the FFVII rap to those who want to watch it:

My cousins from my dad's side are younger than me, though we're pretty close (emotionally and literally seeing as the live very near my house). One of them, the boy, comes a lot to my house to play video games with me. My cousins from my mum's side are also younger, though not so much. I've never met them in person since they live in Melbourne, Australia.

I heard this movie was actually animated with hand-drawn cells unlike the two previous Ghibli movies, and that it holds the record for the most hand-drawn cells as well. From what I've seen in the trailer the voice acting seems pretty great actually. I've heard Tina Fey does a great job.

Still, I can't really see myself watching this unless I were to go with my younger cousins, though this movie doesn't seem as interesting as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Because every single game follows the same basic formula and the only thing that ever really changes are names and haircuts?!?

To me Tales of Eternia (Destiny II for PSX in the US) was the only one that stood out, though it's still familiar territory if you've played any other game in the series. I've heard that Tales of the Abyss stood out as well but I haven't played it myself (lost my PS2 before I was ever interested enough to try the game out.

I hear Tales of Legendia stood out as well. Apparently a lot of Tales fanboys hated it, maybe it's good then. I've read the plot premise and seen the character designs and it does look pretty different from usual Tales stuff.

By the way, I recommend Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions due to good gameplay (hate those pseudo-random battles from which you can't escape though!), great plot (much better than anything you'll ever find in Tales) and beautiful cel-shaded, storybook-esque cutscenes!

Lost Odyssey is also good but it doesn't really add anything new to the genre. Most characters dress ridiculously, there's some slight slowdown on some parts and the plot and world could've been better. The world felt really empty when compared to what Kaim's memories (short stories presented in a visual novel fashion which describe memories from Kaim's past which he remembers along the game) described. To me the memory segments were definitely the game's highlight plot-wise, I just wish the guy who wrote those short stories could've written the game's plot as well. The game also has some excellent music (especially during the memory segments) although there ares some tracks that I just can't listen to.

I'm actually thinking about buying one of these, seeing as it's affordable and so that I can play some PS3 exclusives.

Thanks guys! Didn't know it was that simple. Now I can also edit the default system set as well.

Wasn't this supposed to have been finished in May?

Anyway, whoever has the game, don't feel intimidated because you haven't finished and released the game yet. As long as you actually release the game soon I think everyone will be happy. I know I will.

Hey, so as said on the title, I've got two small questions concerning RMVX:

1. I'm working on a game that's sort of a visual novel (or at the least something that has visual novel-esque dialog scenes). I'm using a picture as a text box      instead of system set seeing as I don't know how to change the default one. Here's what it looks like in-game:

The problem is that there's going to be times in the game in which the player must make choices, but when I input "show choices" in the event editor this is what happens:

Is there a way to make the text box transparent during choices, or at the very least a way to change the default system set for the text box?

2. Is it possible to play RMVX games without having installed RMVX/having the engine at all?

Well those are the questions. I'm hoping you guys will be able to answer them for me. Thanks!

Trace Memory/Another Code and Hotel Dusk are something of a mix between an adventure game and a visual novel (and it works). Can't wait for the Wii game coming soon.

There are plenty of good anime out there, but for every good one there's like a 100 horrible ones. Ever since the 90's Japan's been going into Loli territory, something I find really disgusting and that should be dealt with. Dating sims are basically porn, most of them appealing to otaku and/or NEETs. I remember there was a dating sim buzz around my school when I was 11/12 (basically we played Ganguro Girl and other shitty games). The whole objective of the games was to see the sex scene at the end, provided you win. We lost interest soon after.

There are actually some interesting visual novels out there. Unfortunately a lot of them feature horrible, generic artwork.

The movies weren't bad, but just weren't that good compared to the series. The last one was the funniest I think.

Nice screens SW! I like everything, especially the facesets, except for the icon next to the character's name.

too bad it probably butchered the book the same way Romeo X Juliet undoubtedly butchered the play

I've heard some bad things about Romeo x Juliet, but not really Gankutsuou. Haven't watched either so I can't say for sure.

I'm not sure stuff like Ninja Scroll and Gantz is what he's looking for. I mean I like Gantz and all, but from what I've seen of the anime it's animation looks bad. I think what he's looking for is stuff that's animated in an original, unique way, or shows with just plain good animation.
