I never really knew Steel.  I think the only time that I ever talked to him here was in a topic I made once and the extent of the conversation was something shallow and that's it.  But I've been around here for a while -- I've seen a lot of the thing he posted, and like someone in the 90 pages of this thread said, he was fucking brilliant.  Funny.  Clever.  The guy had a lot going for him.  To be honest, I've always thought of him as something of a celebrity.  And deep down, somewhere, I've always wanted to talk to him, and try and prove myself to him, or just listen to what he had to say.

But christ.  I barely knew the guy, and it still fucken feels weird; empty.  I hope that his family and friends are going to be okay, and I wish them the best.

RIP Steel, I always thought you were a pretty cool guy.

I'm not quite sure what to say here.

Hey Steel, you've probably got no idea who I am, but I've been swinging by this site for some time now; and I've always generally liked what you've had to say.  You're a smart guy and that's pretty rare these days.  I hope you can get through this again, man.  I can support much, but I can add another voice to the choir of those already chiming in.

..fuck, I wish I had something better to say.

Just got back from the midnight showing.

I'm going to add to the chorus here.  Rorschach was indeed, spot on.  I didn't care for the mask much, how they made it a constant shifting stain, rather than liquid, but.  I didn't like Laurie much; maybe the actor, maybe the character, I'm not sure what it was, but something about her just seemed childish and egocentric.  And though I thought the ending was more to the point when it came to the message, I didn't care for it as much.  The monster was something that I didn't suspect, using Manhattan as a scapegoat was formulaic.

I really didn't care for the slow down, or that the characters could punch through walls and break countertops.  Adrian doing some of the stuff he did in the graphic novel was almost pushing it, but in the first few minutes of the movie, the Comedian punches through the wall, and Adrian slams his head against the counter, breaking a large slab of it off, just seconds before the high-speed knife fight.  Or when Dan and Laurie get attacked by the thugs in the alley.  The violence was over the top, even for what it depicted in the graphic novel.

(The scene where it plays 'Hallelujah' was cheesy as all hell.)

It was a good movie over-all though.

also don't read lost girls yet. what aspect of watchmen appealed to you most? if you liked the plotting, reading something like top 10 or his brilliant run on swamp thing is a great bet. if you liked....art.....from hell or league or something along those lines. v for vendetta is way better than the movie.

I liked the plot a lot.  I've heard good things about Swamp Thing, so I'll check into that first.

Why not read Lost Girls yet though?

Going to see this tonight.   I really don't like midnight showings because of all the people shouting when their favorite characters come on screen, and it just generally ruining the atmosphere.  But what the hell.

Gracias for the annotated Watchmen, whoever posted that.  There are so many little details that I've missed, it's amazing.  This is the first work of Moore's that I've read; someone more familiar with him suggest something else of his to me?  I'm thinking of Lost Girls, since Gaiman mentioned that one a few times, but I haven't a clue where to go from there.

I'd be totally down for a GamingW match or something.  I'm not too great at FPSs but I really enjoy this one.  It'd be a boatload more fun with people that I (sortof) know, though.  I'm Hresvelgr_White on Steam, feel free to add me or what have you.

@Hresvelgr: Or You could turn on the Cross Color Reduction Filter.

Tried that, no dice.

Yeah, you probably should have put your $500-$600 PS3 purchase into a large computer monitor or an HDTV.  The new consoles are really not even worth buying if you don't have a high-definition setup.

Well, I decided to save myself a couple thousand dollars and just bought a widescreen monitor instead, which is working great.

Well, I guess I have something else to start saving up for then.

Man.. Warcadia is a really drab place.. The first realm you visit is really, really fun and the boss was awesome as hell.. But Warcadia, I don't know. I haven't clicked with it yet, and the Folklore at the end is pretty damn hard, still trying to find a way to avoid this ground stomp/jump he does (one folk which puts a shield around you seems to do jack when the boss jumps).

Yeah, you're telling me.  I've only had success in dodging that wave from when it jumps by trying to get the hell out of there.  Hasn't worked well.
Can't figure out how to damage him after using on his leak, either.

But yeah!  I picked this game up a few days ago.  I'm only in Warcadia now, haven't gotten to play it much.  It's a really neat game, with some of, if not the best motion sensing controls for the PS3 (and perhaps the Wii?  Ohhohoho.) I've seen yet.

I've got a problem though -- and it was this way with Heavenly Sword too, but to a much lesser extent -- I've got an older standard def. TV, and the text in this game is tiny and blurry.  I have a really hard time reading the names, and can only read the text if I squint and strain my eyes.  I've configured the display settings to S-Video and 4:3 as well as 16:9 and no dice.  Doesn't seem to change a thing.

Do I just need to upgrade to a HD TV, or am I missing something?   :fogetshrug:

What exactly is an LSD trip like?

I've heard that no one can fully describe one, but I'd be interested in hearing what you can remember.  I mean, was anything SUPER ENLIGHTENING or anything?  (Anyone can feel free to answer, btw.)

I've never done drugs per say; and haven't really felt the pull of them, but life experiences are life experiences, so my mind isn't shut and locked.  The most that I've done is smoked some pot twice; and I can say that I honestly didn't see the pull.  All I can really remember is watching my friend think he was choking on a Pringle and finding it the funniest shit in the world.
