maybe you meant more "complex"? that certainly cant be argued. power chord vs full chord its no contest. full chord is....well...."full"

i dont touch them unless i'm playing clean though

I know very little chord theory (never cared to learn yet) but even I know this is just crap. Play a C power chord, now play an open C. Notice how the open C has bass and treble? I don't understand how you think cutting out the higher notes would add more shimmer- quite the opposite as it'd be far duller.

actually i said the full chord would have more shimmer due to the presence of those higher notes making up the chord.

maybe we should all start a new thread titled "guitar debate battle ground"

compression is the weapon of choice in the recording industry for such things. companies fight for the best compression software so they can have the loudest damn cd's in the world.

Not really. Mine was an actual fact wheras the other debate can just be summed up with "to each his own".
Riiight, because gain filled power chords sound anywhere near as clean and deep as full chords.

youre absolutely right about gain filled chords not being as "clean" (duh). Though whether thats good or bad is completely subjective. As far as clean, full chords sounding "deeper" i must disagree. Generally a power chord uses a root and a 3rd or 5th--cutting out the higher notes. so if anything a clean full chord will be brighter and have more "shimmer".

dont think i'm saying dirty tones are better--no practical guitarist would rule out either one. my gain suggestion was just a joke after all

A Senile Animal is a great album, but for somebody who isn't familiar with the melvins it admittedly might not be the easiest to get into.  Notably it has two drummers though, which is really cool to listen to.  I'd suggest Stoner Witch as a good album to start with the Melvins (arguably their most accessible and a very good album) and then to try moving on to something from there

thanks for the advice i'll definitely check that album out. i really like A Senile Animal though. and yeah the dual drummer dynamic is completely bad ass!.

Man I really struggle to listen to Metallica and Megadeth anymore, its sad cause I used to love them but the new Megadeth doesn't interest me in the slightest and Metallica are kinda  a joke now, they have no idea what Metal is about anymore. I'll probally download their newest album but I 100% don't expect a great cd and I used to love Metallica like I would have actually eaten a shit sandwhich to meet them. But.... What I am excited for is the new Cynic album, now that is something to look forward to!

true true. Metallica has certainly seen better creative years. i'm actually very interested in the new album though. i have a feeling they're gonna make something amazing. this is just based on reading interviews and gut feelings though. Megadeth has had apparent flaws from the beginning that still havent really been addressed. The new album is at least worth a listen though, very old school vibe and tone.

God I hope this is a joke.

Are you really the victim in all this?
For something like this to happen, you really need a "willing suspension of disbelief."

Amazing stoner/thrash/doom/rock instrumental outfit. one of the guitarists is a member on my favorite guitar forum. They just finished they're first studio album. my copy should be in the mail

the production is very pleasing on this album, no ultra compression and triggered drums like you fins on way too many metal albums these days. its great to hear the band's dynamics as they are talented musicians with wonderful, organic guitar tones. they managed to avoid all those ear fatiguing frequencies somehow-you can crank this up and it wont be hammering your eardrums like, say, the recent slayer album's production.

and yes, the band is very Castlevania themed (hence the logo designs). many of the tracks are named after castlevania monsters

just spouting the mindless crap that is my musical opinion  :woop:

k so my four latest purchases (meaning i got them like a month ago) are the following
The Melvins-A Senile Animal
Megadeth-United Abominations
Black Sabbath-Past Lives
Metallica- Metallica (black album)

My first time checking out the Melvins, though i've been interested for a while as many of my favorite artists cite them as an influence. Really ballsy stoner sound with punk and metal sensibilities. Some tracks really impress, but after a few listens the album as a WHOLE doesnt hold my attention. Dont get me wrong i've seen the light-these guys rock and i want more.

I really wasnt expecting much from this album back when it was in the works, as Megadeth is one of those bands that USE to rock. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I mean its not that memorable, most of the tracks are just the band on autopilot-nothing much to see there. Some things really stand out, like "gears of war". very neat intro and the chorus riff is completely bad ass. The new version of "a tout le monde" wasnt all that great. Christina Scabia's contribution was waaay too downplayed in the song and the mix. Probably Dave's ego is to blame for that. unfortunate since she has a lot to offer...

Sabbath! Man i love these guys and always will. All respect to Ronnie James Dio, but theres just something so special about the Ozzy years. Past Lives is a two cd collection of live recordings with the original Sabbath lineup. Tony's soloing feels much more vibey than on studio recordings and its great to hear him really tear into it,feeding off that live energy. "killing yourself to live" and "snowblind" are epic as ever. favorites like "war pigs" and "paranoid" are of course there as well. The original head banger's brew

Never really got into 'tallica. I know its the black album that catapulted them to the position of music legend but its just not my bag for the most part. I actually really enjoy their earlier stuff-much more raw energy and thrash. The black album just sounds way too refined and streamlined to me, save for some interesting tracks like "of wolf and man", "the unforgiven", and "nothing else matters". Kirk Hammet is a really talented player and a great guy to boot, but his solos on this album are sort of disappointing. Hetfield's rhythm technique might not be as frantic and technical as Mustaine's, but his picking precision is top notch and he out does Mustaine's corny as hell vocals any day.

well thats it in a nutshell really. if anyone would like to share their opinions im game for discussion  :)

yeah you really have a lot of options. go to music/guitar stores near you with someone who knows what to look for in quality when it comes to guitars. see what clicks with you and of course you can look up user reviews on sites like harmony central, musicians friend, and the like.

yeah usually i'd use small slabs of pine between the clamps and the body wood (which is pretty soft) but in this case i wasnt gonna stress over any cosmetics. the neck finish may be sanded away in the future and then refinished in a light cherry stain and then a clear coat

aight here's the update:

went to home depot and got a bottle of stainable wood glue and two 3 inch clamps--about $14
took a hair dryer to the glue nem used and peeled it out.
applied the glue, clamped it down at strategic places, and wiped away the seepage!

tomorrow the clamps come off and i use wood putty to fill in any remaining imperfections. then sand it down til its seamless. After that comes the staining.

i'll post those updates as well. til then lets meet the SG this one shall join after its fixed!

enough pr0n! peace out!   :naughty:
