That might actually work.  If I can translate the midi to sheet music, I might be able to discern which parts of it are piano.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've looked on google for hours and can't find the answer.

I have been told to find the sheet music for the keyboard parts of some songs, specifically:

Closing Time - Semisonic
All I Wanna Do - Sheryl Crow
Fade Into Me - Mazzy Star
What I Got - Sublime

I am NOT looking for keyboard or piano arrangements of the songs, but the actual notation for the keyboard or piano parts used in the song. For "Closing Time" this is pretty easy to figure out on my own (BGBGDGDGBGBGCGBG). But I have no clue for the others (Don't even hear keyboard in "What I Got")

I'm not sure if this information is readily available and I just don't know where to look or if it's impossible. I've given up Googling, hopefully someone here can direct me.

NES and SNES games are only valuable as collectors items.  Anyone can play the ROM, the arcade version, the upgraded version, or whatever.

That said, you have some extremely valuable games.  Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger sell for a lot.  But only because of the sentimental value of the cartridge.  Even I feel tempted to pay at least $20 for one of those games simply for sentimental value.  Imagine what they will sell for when we're old men trying to recapture the nostalgia of our youth.

So hold on to your games and get a job.

Funny. There's a slim chance of DLC for Brawl.

Sarhan, I'd like to hear why you think DLC is unlikely in Brawl since you probably know the most about it.  I'm not aware of all the reasoning behind it.

They've only been out for a year, and you're calling it the worst generation?
Also I can name 5 great games on two of those systems.

Bioshock.
Mass Effect.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Super Mario Galaxy
Portal, HL2(they came out on console, so they count).
Oblivion.

I don't see how they have killed innovation when Super Mario Galaxy is probably the best Mario game since Mario 64, maybe even better in some eyes. Bioshock easily replenished the FPS genre, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl is just fucking fun. We've got another 4+ years of this generation, in which games like MGS4, Final Fantasy, etc are going to be coming out.
I don't know if you have a "next gen" console or not, but you clearly haven't played these games.

But it's your opinion so I can't argue that.

Yes, I have next gen consoles and own or have played all of those games (except Brawl of course).  Of course, they are not bad games at all.  I'm sure I will run into people who disagree with me because they are emotionally invested in the success of their favorite games and consoles.  But all we can do is argue about it on a game-by-game basis, and I do not wish to do this.  Just understand that I have played those games, I have played the games offered by the previous generations I listed, so my opinion is at least informed if not agreeable.

Yes, let's hope that the generation improves in the next four years.

This is a very good idea for a topic, I've put a lot of thought into this.  Your opinion that the N64/Playstation generation was the best since it was so influential.  I would agree that it was very influential, but I would judge the quality of a generation by the games it produced.  I don't think very highly of that generation because the 3D looked so terrible, it was a mess.  It was worse than sprites.  At least with sprites, you could tell what you were looking at.

So here is my list of best to worst generations

* Playstation 2/Gamecube/Xbox generation - the best.  I know it was only last generation, but I can still say with all objectivity that this was the best generation for video games.

* Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis - so many great games came out of this generation.

* NES - Lots of terrific games that are still fun to play today.

* N64/Playstation - Insistence on using rudimentary polygons made some games that don't stand the test of time very well.  But still many great games.

* Playstation 3/Xbox360/Wii - worst generation yet.  Games worth playing can be counted on one hand.  Exploding development costs to keep up with hardware have killed innovation and have only made room for run-of-the-mill.

Also you have to realize that any character who is higher tiered will be even stronger with access to items.

Yeah but I don't think the difference is always the same.  I don't think items always just scale things up equally.  Perhaps one character gets a little better with a certain item while another character gets much better with the same item.  And some characters are much better only with CERTAIN items.  And some characters are better at retrieving items, like pokeballs.

My original point is that when you consider items, number of players, and all kinds of arenas there are a nearly limitless number of possible scenarios that you can get into in a fight.  This means that it becomes very difficult to create a tier based on all possible scenarios in Smash Bros but much easier by eliminating a lot of possibilities by looking at just the tournament environment.

You based that off of what exactly?  :hmm:

The people that are saying that MetaKnight is great at causing damage but not so great at delivering KO attacks.

It's important to note that tiers seem to be created in the "tournament environment" - Final Destination, no items (correct me if I'm wrong).  But this tournament environment unbalances the characters.  For example, I often played as Pikachu in melee who has a great advantage with items and platform jumping.  But in the tournament environment, his weaknesses are emphasized while his advantages can't be used.  It looks like MetaKnight would have similar problems in a tournament environment since he would have a hard time KOing someone without items or a teammate.

The final roster has probably been revealed.  But what makes us 100% sure it is the final roster?

Also, would it be possible that Nintendo might add downloadable characters later?

If you look at that screen Mateui posted, you can see that characters that are related are in columns together.  DK is above Diddy, Kirby is in the same column as Metaknight and Dedede, etc.  However
I don't care at all about , but he would fit perfectly on the screen.

You are 100% correct.  Good find.

Okay, my roommate just got Rock Band so I have some questions/comments.

Our guitar didn't seem to work, wouldn't connect at all.  So I had to order a new one.  Still shy of the microphone, so all we are left with is Drum Band at the moment.

What is the Rock Band/Guitar Hero guitar compatibility situation for the Xbox 360?  Does the Rock Band guitar work with guitar hero?  Or only vice versa?

I'm embarassed to say that the drums were a lot harder than I anticipated.  Maybe I just suck.  But the hard parts is when you have to hit the drums in a long rhythm sequence very quickly.  Now I can get the rhythm right but I'll be drumming at just slightly off of where the beats are supposed to hit (hard to explain).  So I'll miss like a hundred in a row at these parts even though it feels like I'm doing it right.  Does this get easier with practice?

How exactly are new songs unlocked?

'Two songs titled "Athletic"'

Oh! This must be the Theme of Athletic tune as it is sometimes called.  My favorite song of all Nintendo music.

I can promise you that there is another third party playable character.  But do not ask me how I know this.

That Dragoon item does not seem like it's practical at all unless you're doing a really long time match, 10+ stock, or only a few items (including the Dragoon) at a high rate. I hate the direction Brawl seems to be going towards at times. Makes me want to cry.

The way I think it should and will work is this:  the first piece has as good a chance as any item to show up, but, once it is collected, the other pieces fall soon afterwards.  So it wouldn't take a really long match as you presume.  I think you should hold back those tears until you can actually see how all these ideas play out.

I think television is a good tool for promoting sex.  If you watch MTV or most channels you are constantly presented with a reality where sex is normal, sex is frequent, and if you're not having sex then you're a loser.  I watched MTV for ten minutes today and it made me feel like I need to sleep with 100 more women or else I have failed at life.  I can only imagine what it must do to an impressionable mind that is younger than the people on MTV who look at them, not necessarily as a role model, but as an EXAMPLE of what life must be like.  I would even venture to say that godless cavemen, uninhibited by Christian guilt, did not even have sex so ubiquitous in their culture.

I kind of think it's sad how kids can't experience just a few years of post pubescent innocence before they start humping each other.  They're sort of missing out on a unique phase of their lives.

Why is life so bad for Lakota people?  They've all been U.S. citizens since 1924.  Why is everything shitty for you?

I think FFVI is unique for not only having a large cast of characters, but making them an important part of the story.  As opposed to the dozens of people who join up with you in a game like Chrono Cross.
