Why do people still play text-based RPGs?

EDIT: Not trying to insult your choice, though, just wondering what makes roto-x better than, say, WoW.

EDIT 2: If you're not just an adbot.

After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

I learned that King Nebuchadnezzar apparently foretold the rise and fall of about five different nations a hundred or so years after his death (i.e. Greeks, Romans, Barbarians, etc). Or at least, he had a dream which people interpreted to mean that.

EDIT: http://teachinghearts.org/dre17hdan02.html There's a link.

I'm kinda interested in this, I mean, I never played any of the old Duke Nukem games (too young), but I'm especially interested on how they handle aiming on the PSP.

Because the archbishops/pope/etc *make* God's laws here on earth, straight from God.

Mmm. The whole abortion situation is pretty awful, especially if the family's going to be outcasts because of this. Catholocism in particular, I've seen, creates a large amount of intolerance, and it's partly why some people like it.

Yeah, if no-one had told me it was a render, I probably wouldn't have noticed. The stuff in the foreground of all those pictures is startlingly realistic. However, the backgrounds in some of the pictures are pretty off, as the trees all look the same, with dead straight branches, etc. Also, the picture with the river in the foreground looks wrong, because the ground texture just doesn't look real.

Uh, my pc is a piece of shit. Some levels in VTMB can take like 3 minutes to load.
Yeah, man, I know how you feel. I wasted hours waiting for that game to load with my old PC.

On topic, shitty flash games are probably your best bet. Tetris, tower defense games, arcade shooters, etc. Granted, they're not the best way to spend your time, but they'll do the trick nicely. Also, you may want to consider getting a GBA emulator and playing stuff like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem. Anything on the GBA would work, really, but those two are better because their turn-based (and Advance Wars is actually hard on the harder difficulty).

Did they ever fix that bug where the campaign menu took about five minutes to load?

Anachronox was pretty awesome if you can find it.
Icewind Dale 1 & 2 were ok.
I'd say Jade Empire but it's really short.

I'd like to experience being in prison, say, just for a month (not from actually committing a crime). Because people say "oh, prison is too good for these guys", but most people have never been to prison for an extended length of time anyway. I'm just thinking now that five years (a fairly average sentence) would be a long time to spend in a place you wouldn't want to be anyway.

EDIT: I mean, I'd change my mind against killing someone if I knew that prison was an awful place to be.

Me and my brothers used to have quite a large collection of pokemon cards when was younger. And I've only recently decided to collect Magic: the Gathering cards with one of my friends. Apart from that, I've never really had the money to just buy things because they were part of a set, or anything like that.

I thought it was pretty crap, just because I didn't like the two new armies and flying units didn't really fit into my strategy (and were generally pretty useless), but it is slightly better balanced, from what I remember. It really depends on how much it is near you, I bought it for $40 AU and was pretty disappointed.

Oh, I'm so glad my year 10 maths teacher drilled this into me.

It was routine for boys to stay over with her in her bed.
What the hell? What kind of a parent would let her 14 year old child have a boy in her bed with her?
And how would the mother not know her daughter was sleeping with (at most) *eight* guys?

I didn't say it was the same thing, just that there might be a charity set up because there's no way *he* can support the kid.

Actually, does anyone know what the sex-education programs are like in the UK? Surely at 12 years old you know how babies are born.

This kid looks like 7 years old, damn. I saw a video on our news about it where alfie said he had no idea where he'd get the money to support a child. And how long are these two going to stay together, anyway? 12 year old romances don't tend to last very long. Oh man, this is so messed up. Next there'll be a charity for them as well as that woman with 14 children. Support people who are too dumb to make good choices, guys! Let them breed and devour the nations of the world!

Avast is great:

AVG Free is pretty good:

Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. On a side note, don't get Ad-Aware, it is actually a trojan, we've got it on this computer now, and have no idea how to get rid of it.

Games I'd recommend:

Monster Hunter Freedom - Excellent third-person RPG where the only way to get better is to create better equipment (which you get from killing monsters/wyverns). Can be extremely unfriendly to new players, especially if you're not patient.

Puzzle Quest (if you haven't played it on another platform) - Seriously, I only got this because it was only about 100mb (and actually because I thought it would be horrible and I would laugh at it), but it is surprisingly addictive. Bejeweled with RPG elements (i.e. skills, levels, fighting monsters, generic plot) makes this game one of my favourites.

Disgaea: It's a nice PS2 port with hours and hours of gameplay. A great SRPG with a large amount of depth.

Games not to get:

Kingdom of Paradise/Key of Heaven: boring, generic hack & slash RPG. Horrible storyline; the best part is creating new combos from various moves you obtain from enemies.

Field Commander: While this is an ok strategy game in its own right, the AI is just so dumb it's not even worth a single-player playthrough. Only get it if you're planning to play over Xlink Kai.

Brave Story: Really, really small download, but a horrible, generic RPG. The plot basically revolves around saving your girlfriend (when your own character looks about 10 years old) by going to a fantasy world and...you get the picture.

1. Yes.
2. Makes writing school assignments easier, creates entertainment.
3. Games, writing assignments, playing music, reading ebooks, using the internet.
4. Viruses, having to install virus-protection programs which auto-start.
5. How powerful it is (I'm aware that that's probably not the focus of the question, but it's ambiguous)
6. Not yet, I haven't got RSI or anything, and I'm still social.
7. Not really.
8. Better in the sense that I'd probably have used my spare time to learn about four languages.
9. Er...better AI? (if you're talking about computing in general)
10. I'd prefer not to have microchips inserted in me, it just makes me uncomfortable at the thought. I'd also prefer not to have sentient robots.

I hate the direction that FF gameplay is going.  Obviously the menu turn-based system was getting old, but the whole MMORPG spin really sucks.  I'd rather see it take a FF Tactics approach, because FF Tactics Advanced was awesome, and I'm sure they can make some balance of fast-paced battles with a more strategic approach.
But...FF Tactics is still turn-based...and it's slower. I actually liked FF 12's battle system; I think I said this in another topic somewhere, but it felt less grindy somehow. I still got bored with the game about 15 or 20 hours in, but it wasn't a bad effort. Actually, I eventually just got so pissed off at how you couldn't use the airship *at all*, you had to walk all the fucking way everywhere.

Well, let's see...

I guess you could say that the media have the right to freedom of speech, no matter what the consequences. I mean, people don't *have* to believe what the media says, right? This would imply, though, that the general public weigh the evidence equally (read: ignore the bullshit) to create their opinion on the issue. Which is a difficult statement to justify.
