Game Overview
Legionwood is a console style RPG made using RPG Maker VX. Legionwood is my attempt at creating a nostalgic and familiar RPG experience reminiscent of the classics of the early 90's such as Breath Of Fire and Chrono Trigger.
Legionwood features a massive world filled with adventures and side quests, and is expected to contain over 20 hours of gameplay and four huge story driven chapters.
While it isn't revolutionary and contains gameplay that is for the most part bog standard RPG fare, Legionwood is designed to be that way; familiar and fun for RPG fans looking for a casual game to play.

Storyline
The world of Legionwood. Once upon a time, it was prosperous and full of technological wonders. About three thousand years ago, a mysterious phenomena demolished most of mankind's cities, and as a species, they had to start again. This much, archaeologists and scholars know from the ancient ruins of technological cities and fortresses dotted throughout the most barren parts of Legionwood's surface.
After at least two millennia had passed, mankind had begun to re-establish itself as the planet's dominant species. Major inventions were being rediscovered, and technological development had finally reached a medieval period. It was at this time when everything began to go wrong. Legionwood has always had war, but suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere began a furious and unpredictable world war that raged for years and devastated cities and nations worldwide. This terrible conflict, known as the Great War, ended as suddenly as it began, with no mention of its cause or conclusion to the public, and mankind began to pick up the pieces.

Now, one thousand years have passed since the Great War came to an end. Since that terrible time, makeshift peace treaties have ensured there have been only minor conflicts over the last centuries, but once again technology is on the rise, and half truths and legends about the Great War and its origins are prevalent in popular culture.
Each country, empire and kingdom fears its neighbours, and only reluctantly are peace ties held in place. In a last ditched effort to try and maintain some sort of peace between the rival kingdoms of Charn and Trevelle, the king of Charn has decided to hold a celebration and
festival to honor his new daughter's birth. Everybody in attendance is expecting a good time, but a key figure linked to Legionwood's dark past of conflict and death has been biding his time, and has decided that now is the perfect time to stage a new Great War and political upheaval. Simply looking for a way to wind down after months of hard work, Lann and his sister Liara come to enjoy the festivities, but soon they will both be pulled unexpectedly into an epic saga which may just have a battle to decide the world's fate waiting in its wings.

Game Features
- A character driven story full of twists, turns and red herrings, and an intended gameplay time of around 20 hours.
- 6 playable characters, each one with a distinct personality, which you can mold into your own custom character classes to suit your combat style.
- Turn based combat with an emphasis on tough opponents and using skills, rather than mashing "attack" over and over. Think, don't button mash!
- A custom soundtrack, composed entirely of non comercial game music, some exclusive to Legionwood.
- Collect, raise and summon 5 elemental spirits to aid you in battle! Summon level up, learn skills and fight just like your party members!
- Innovative Ability Point system by KGC allows you to choose which bonuses you gain in level ups, so you're free to decide which role your characters fill in your battle plan.

Note: This game's story can be enjoyed without having played the previous One Night games, but it can be better enjoyed if you have played them first.

Introduction

One Night: Full Circle is the final game in Dark Gaia's horror themed One Night series. It serves as the conclusion to the series and resolves the story arc that has been established through the previous games and ties the stories of One Night and One Night 2 together in a cohesive whole.
One Night: Full Circle is a semi-remake of One Night 3: Shadows of Stillwater, widely regarded as the weakest in the series. It is intended to replace the previous game entirely and rectify its flaws. It offers a completely rewritten, more in depth story to improve the flow of the narrative and add a more tangible conclusion to the series. It also includes tweaked gameplay and polished systems so that it is more fun to play through. Best of all, this re-release features two completely new areas, the Sewer and the University, each packed with brand new puzzles, enemies and story details, to significantly extend the length of the game.

Story Outline

The year 2019. A bizarre accident occurs in the bustling mining town of Stillwater.
Contact with the town is mysteriously lost, and the fate of its citizens is unknown. Several rescue groups attempt to investigate the situation, but they never return. Three months quickly pass without any explanation of the event, though Stillwater never leaves the public eye. Speculation runs wild, with everything from the supernatural to aliens having a part in the bizarre proceedings.

Another mysterious event; Tom Hawkins receives a letter in the mail from his sister, a journalist staying in Stillwater on that fateful night. The letter is dated three months previously, though the reason why it has arrived now is as mysterious as its origin. Is there a chance that Tom's sister is somehow still alive, trapped in the nightmare that Stillwater has become? Seeking the truth, Tom packs for a long journey and soon, he himself vanishes without a trace. He has decided to trace the letter back to where it came from, and is headed to Stillwater itself. What awaits him is beyond anyone's comprehension...

Features

- Six eerie locations to explore, each filled with clues to find and terrifying horrors to face.
- Tense event based combat system with multiple equipable weapons and directional based attacks.
- Mysterious storyline which challenges you to find every shred of information you can to unravel the unknown fate of Stillwater.
- Two different endings to discover based on your choices throughout the adventure!
- Links to previous One Night games and resolutions to the unanswered questions of the series.

Glad you liked it. L2 is hanging around somewhere on this forum if you want to play the demo of it.

Build 5 is now out!

If you were waiting for Build 5 to come out so you can start the game, or if you were turned off by the many ellipses and misc. bugs in Build 4, check out the OP for updated links now!

Hey, Legionwood fans!

I've decided to release the trial edition of Legionwood 2 today, which will be the first and only release before the completed version.

This is the Trial Edition of Legionwood 2 - the demo that will precede the full game's release and which will be used to garner feedback and criticism which I can use to improve the game.

This demo is about three hours in length. You do not need the RPG Maker VX RTP to play and your save file will also be compatible with the completed game on the far off day of its release.

The purpose of this release is to showcase the main concepts and gameplay of Legionwood 2 and to guage people's reactions to it.

Should be up on RMN within 24 hours!

Well in this latest release, people have reported getting to the final boss and watching the ending so I guess it works. I'm glad you like it, chapter one's probably the most refined of all, having gone through so many changes over the years.

Hehehe... I generally use the first week after the release to iron out all the kinks. I'm pretty sure the one I just reuploaded is working fine, though if you want to be safe I'd wait a week or so more.

@Maxximum: Yes, I kind of brand it as a generic J-RPG. I still did put effort in to make it a decent game though.

@Corfaisus: If you tried the game a long time ago, it's very likely the game is different now. It underwent an overhaul a few months ago assisted by some members of RMN who vehemently hated the game and I managed to win most of them over with the changes I made. Please try it again if you have the time.

Hi everyone! Sadly, I've had to suspend the games downloads in order to upload a new one. My artist, Kken, has requested that I change her name in the credits and I felt I should honour her wish immediately. Thus, I've removed all previous downloads and am uploading a new one to RMN as we speak, which should be available sometime within the next 24 hours.

It will also include a small bug fix. If you've downloaded the current version, don't worry about downloading the new one, just simply go into the BGM folder, copy "Adventure Awaits.mid" and rename it to "BR - Adventure" to fix it yourself.

This game has a gameplay timer which I simply look at after I've finished the game to figure out how long it took me.

The day you eagerly awaited probably didn't care about is here at last!

Legionwood is fully complete, and testing is finished! The full game with all four chapters can now be downloaded. Please enjoy! I spent three years of my life toiling to complete this game...

See the first post of the thread for the download link!

Hey everyone... I haven't updated this thread for a while so for those who are interested...

Update

A fan known to me as "kken" has decided to design a complete range of hand drawn art pieces for use in Legionwood. They are of a great quality and he has requested that the game's release be delayed until all of the pieces have been finished so that they can be placed in the game for use in cut scenes and as backgrounds. Scenes such as the conversations between Lann and Alexis on the ship and the conversation in the Royal Tomb (as well as some scenes in the final chapter including the ending) use these art pieces and the game cannot be released until they are all completed.

Thanks for eagerly awaiting Legionwood! I promise you the full game will be worth the wait!

Thought I might show off an example of kken's artwork. This is used in the conversation after the death of Merces in chapter 3.

Big Update!

Legionwood just hit 85% completion! I'vejust finished adding the final touches to the last town in the game(Makir) which has the final equipment and Tech stores. Now there is just the final dungeon to be done along with the ending until the game is finished!

(and of course a full test play from start to finish which could take a few extra days)

I have not forgotten Legionwood! I'm currently well into the production of the final release of the game and I'm also doing some minor adjustments to the balancing of earlier partsof the game. The final release will have a game play time clocking inat around 15 hours or so and will include the final dungeon and boss, wrap up the story and its loose ends and will feature the super deadly optional boss which all J-RPG games seem to include as standard.

Most of the early game balancing plus the price of healing items and character speed rates have all been altered for the next release without interfering with save filecompatibility so you can expect a much easier adventure next time round. Also, I've got a cool plan for the "superboss." Essentially, there are five weaker "superbosses" that you much kill in order to unlock the final "superboss" who is about ten times harder than the final boss. Defeating him unlocks weaponry that maxes your stats and an ultra hard dungeon which contains armor which contains all benefitial effects and immunities.

In addition, here are in summary the three main new additions/changes in the next version:

Target all spells - It strikes me as crazy why I haven't added one in. I never intended to add in elemental target allsbut a non elemental target all might be a useful addition. I'll make itavailable from Chapter Two onwards as that point would be the bestplace to put it. The idea behind my magic casting system was that youwouldn't be able to speed through battles by hitting everyone for massdamage so much like my favorite FF game (Final Fantasy X) I made all of the spells single target.

Weaker healing items - Good idea. What I've now done is this; you can buy relatively cheap Salves and Peptides which heal exactly 40% of your HPand SP or you can buy the stronger, more expensive items that heal 100%.

Speed of characters early in the game - I don't really want you to spend allyour AP on speed so I cranked up the natural growth rate of your speed stat.

Update

I've decided that the original Legionwood should be finished first before I begin to support this game again, so I've made the decision to remove the download link from this profile until development of this game resumes. This way nobody will be stuck with a demo version that will not be continued for months at least. Once development begins again, I can stick to a stable release schedule.

Important! This game is stand alone. It does not require the RPG Maker VX RTP to be installed.

Introduction
Legionwood 2: Revolution In Taltarus is a thematic sequel to the RPG Maker VX game Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords.
This game features characters, names and concepts which appeared in the original game but it is important to note that this game's story and setting are unrelated to that of the prequel.
The idea was to create a similar but somewhat different game. As such Revolution In Taltarus looks different, feels different and plays differently to the first Legionwood, but retains enough similarites so as to appeal to players of the first game.
This said, Revolution In Taltarus is a rather standard J-RPG style game, with a slight emphasis on dungeon crawling and puzzle solving above exploration or character upgrading. If you like J-RPGs, you should like this too.

Story Outline

A great evil has gripped the world. Time itself has been mutilated, and the all will forever be doomed to relive the same life of terror over and over until the one who bears the Creator's soul arrives, one who will carry the legendary sword and restore peace to the world and rewrite the planet's history itself...

The world of Taltarus hangs on the brink of war. The Arechon Empire, stable and neutral for many decades has mysteriously launched a war campaign on the free lands of the world.
Harnessing the legendary power of Mana, which created the world, rumoured to be impossible to control save for the prophesised demon said to arrive at the brink of Taltarus's life, the Emperor encroaches on Endor, the last free kingdom.
Rean, holding a legendary weapon known as the Sword of Lore passed down to him from the hero Gaia, is set to play an important and unforseen role in the death and rebirth of the planet. long with his companions, the Remnants, members of the world's last free army, Rean will set out on a journey to reseal the Mana Shards, sources of the emperor's power, before the Mana balance becomes unstable and Taltarus itself tears into pieces.
What they experience along the way changes their lives, their destinies, and the fate of everyone alive now and everyone yet to be born. They must discover the dark secret behind the empire's invasion, a secret that has held the world in it's grasp for thousands of years, and one which links them intimately with both the current crisis and the very birth of Taltarus.

But first Rean must uncover his own past, and discover a secret about himself that he'd rather have not known.

Why is the empire suddenly bent on world domination? Where did they obtain the power to control Mana? Why are they systematically destroying the free nations of Taltarus? How is Rean interlinked with the entity that controls them?

Game Features:
- Experience an intricate and emotional story starring eight characters, each with their own personality and battle strategy.
- Defeat multitudes of carefully scripted foes using a familiar turn based battle system. These enemies are smart and you'll need to think rather than just mash "Attack" to beat them!
- Explore a massive J-RPG world. Legionwood 2 has a great emphasis placed on exploration and dungeon crawling, each location is vast, intricately mapped and full of quests to solve and treasures to discover.
- Play various fun mini games including rapier duelling, a monster arena, Blackjack, and more to earn money and items.

Just a quick Update!

I'm about 30% through the development of this section right now. This means I've completed about 2 hours of the new content so far. As this is the biggest update and the final release thus far you can expect it to take a bit longer to develop than previous updates, particularly the chapter 3 release. Never fear though; the game is still chugging along!

Ah that is true. That's an error on my part. I've released a small patch to fix all these things. I'm glad that the game only needs one patch this time around.

Update:

I've uploaded a small 2MB patch which will fix the following things in Legionwood 3.12:

- You can no longer get stuck landing your ship at Charn Port.
- You can now complete Demonhold Keep.
- Learning Dual Wielding no longer gives you wierd, rare weapons you shouldn't have.
- Kills the bug that adds Thyrra to your party in Selatan Plains...

This patch is essential if you wish to complete the game. I have submitted it to RMN so expect it to be available within twelve hours. It is very easy to apply and fixes all of this version's problems.

Thank you for the reports. I do have beta testers but my head tester is rarely around and he does do a great job. I'll recruit some more.

The first bug you reported I will fix, though the battleback should be... nevermind, I just realised I left in a relic from a deleted event.

The second bug makes me frown in puzzlement. Never ever has anyone reported this, nor is there any eventing in place that would cause such a thing to happen...

EDIT: Found it. It was a debug event I'd had in place ever since the game's first release two years ago. It's a random floor tile. You just happened to find it. I'm removing it right away. That particular bug won't happen in any other place.

Yeah two bits of good news: I fixed the stack errors and rather than letting others beta test this for me I played it from start to end MYSELF so you can be sure it works first time this time. Anyone who was around for One Night 3's release knows I cleaned up my act.

Keep in mind though one thing I didn't change is the difficulty. If you found Legionwood hard before, it's roughly the same now. I love hard RPGs, so I tend to make my own ones that way. With that said, you can survive the battles if you think as I and my friends have done.

Here's some advice from a beta tester:

Quote
Okay, very simple to survive in Legionwood but you gotta be prepared. Buy Lann the heaviest, strongest weapons and armor you can get but buy Liara the mage's cloak, whip and hat. Now, go and buy Liara the 3 elemental spells and Healing Light, while you get Lann double strike and study enemies.
Finally, enter the menu, select Character, and in the status screen hit A. Spend Lann's AP on Attack and Defense, spend Liara's on Intellect and Defense.
Now spend whatever cash you have left on peptides.

Proceed to Selatan Plains. Have Lann attack in battle and Liara cast spells. Use Salves if wounded and peptides if low on SP. Hang around near the save point until you reach level 2 and you can relax

The golden rule with Legionwood is to not spam attack. In the game's early areas, heal if you fall below 60% of your max HP, and do make sure you cast spells. Also, make sure you spend AP at every level up as without it you cannot raise your stats high enough to survive.
