And now, a stubborn attempt from me to keep this alive.

I might as well chip in with some unused graphics I found in Ultima VII and Serpent Isle while going through the game resources via Exult.

There are frames for a flying gargoyle which is not used anywhere in the game.

Several of these business signs are not used in the game. Some, like the key for guild shop and ankh for healer stem from earlier games in the series. The three red globes was possibly meant for pawn shops, as in the released game you can sell only a couple of very specific items. The red bull sign is from Serpent Isle, and used in place of the horse sign.

Some of the characters have frames for special actions which are not used in the game. On magic-able characters these frames are used for spellcasting gestures.

Then there's this thing. It's labeled as "prism" in the game files. I have no idea what it might have been intended for. The colors are actually transparencies which make whatever is behind it lighter. This is how it looks on a black background.

This is a bunch of important quest item graphics that are grouped together in the Serpent Isle files. The third one is labeled "the cat's eye", and is not used in the game. This is probably related to a cut section of the game called Cat Isle. The one in the middle is a small gong, which I do not remember being used anywhere in the game either.

Finally, here are paperdoll graphics for a cloak which is not in the game. The glowing edges would animate in the game, streaking around the cloak.

edit: Sorry I wasn't able to figure out how to display the images in full size in the post itself.

Any progress in the video format front?

Also, hello, fellow Finnish person above!

I don't know the second song (don't tell me) because I'm old, I'm 2 for 3 so far. I wanna see how my score stacks up & find out what other comedians cameo in the remaining 4 vids
For me it's the opposite. I recognize that one, but I've never heard to original versions of the other two. For the videos, it's nice to see the actress who played the creepy stalker fan in Flight of the Conchords, and... is that Jack Black after her? I've never seen him with hair that short.

Yes, that looks exactly as I hoped and expected it would. I noticed that first glitch also happening when the intro showed the dream about Rebecca, only there the pixels appear to be peach-colored. As for the flickering, I think you are referring to the subtitles. Those are positioned so that they would normally be on the black bar just below the video, but now of course the video overlaps them. Whether or not anything can be done about that, it is not part of this specific task, I think. And of course those can be turned off. Fortunately everybody in the game speaks clearly enough (that I can remember) that this is no big loss.

Thank you greatly for figuring things out so far. Hopefully you will manage to sort out that first glitch.

As I've mentioned before, what I really want to do is scale the video up to less squashed proportions. I'm content to leave everything else as is. Have you been able to figure out what roughly is the maximum space allowed for a frame? The making of -video uses frames which are 320x400 instead of 320x280, and there are frames there which take slightly over 120 kilobytes. Scaling a random frame from 280 to 400 vertical resolution increases the size roughly from 80 to 120 kilobytes.

Have you gotten any further in figuring out if it might be possible to stick frames back into the video files?

If you can figure out a way to put resized frames back into the video file and have the game play it at that size, I'm willing to handle resizing all the thousand and thousands of frames myself. Someone who knew more about coding could probably cook up a macro or something to do that more automatically, but what the hell.

I have to confess that I know next to nothing about video formats and working with them. If you are willing to take a look, I can provide some video files from Realms of the Haunting. If you can come up with a way of converting them to a more common video format and back again, I can handle scaling the video in between. Which admittedly would probably be the least troublesome step in this process. Also, I would be most grateful.

I registered just to post at this thread. I have been looking around for information on the .GDV video format. I have never actually played Normality, though that's been on my plate for a long time. However, I love Realms of the Haunting. Something I would really love to do is have the videos in ROTH redone with different aspect ratio, as the way they are in the game currently makes everything look slightly squashed. The videos are in 320x280 resolution, but the game displays those with double the lines, so it's in practice 640x280.

Just to see if the game would crash and burn if it tried playing a different type of .GDV file, I switched the intro with a video from Normality. It actually did play without the game complaining, but it was at double speed.
