The last movie I watched was Up, and I enjoyed it immensely.  I haven't seen a movie that both made me incredibly sad and laugh out loud in a long time.  I was pretty choked up at the start (especially since I went with my wife, who is 5 months pregnant with our first child).

I loved Dug the dog - he had some of the best lines.

I had my little one in my lap, telling me to stop crying. I bawled. THANK YOU PIXAR FOR MAKING A KID'S MOVIE THAT MAKES GROWN-UPS CRY. Holy hell.

Anyway, The Hangover stars a bunch of actors from TV shows I don't watch in a comedy about what happens in Vegas after the copious consumption of . In all fairness, I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this movie except some raunchy humor and the typical bro-mance comedy centered around a bachelor party in Vegas. What I got was an entertaining film that had me laughing pretty well all the way through it. Between the tiger, the baby, the naked Chinese man and Mike Tyson, I was thoroughly entertained. I don't really recall any parts where it dragged on needlessly, and I was OK with accepting the over-the-top antics simply because the nature of the movie. Honestly, this has to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. Stop reading this thread right now, find an open theatre and go see this film. It's awesome.

And while you're at the theatre, do yourself a favor: Avoid Land of the Lost. It wasn't funny, I wasn't incredibly entertained, and Will Ferrell managed to discover a new manner in which to irritate his audience. I will admit it was cool to see Ferrell playing lefty banjo and I LOVED Spock's cameo, but the rest of the movie was just bad. I don't even think I could recommend a rental on this one.

Don't do this ever again. Seriously, it isn't, in any way, funny, and it is not appreciated.

WHEN GEEKS MEET, the new and thrilling reality show in which geeks get together and do stuff.

Seriously, the pictures are awesome.

Anyway, everyone else is asleep so I've just come from breakfast. I am not nearly as hung over as I thought I was going to be, which is a bonus. We had fun, watching hockey, talking about hockey, making fun of each other; you know, the usual things. Once I get showered I'm taking a walk to clear my head and possibly spend money. It should be epic.

I've been to the movies recently, and I've seen a couple of films that have gotten a lot of attention on the forums. So, instead of re-hashing stuff that has already been said, I'm going to touch on a movie that hasn't gotten nearly as much attention.

State of Play stars Mr. Jennifer Garner as a US senator who has done some mighty stupid things with his life. Enter Russell Crowe as a hefty, long-haired reporter guy and Rachel McAdams as his spunky-yet-smart sidekick who work for the Washington Globe, working on stories that somehow wind up connecting back to the congressman, his sexy bed buddy, a hilariously sad (and I mean that as a compliment) Jason Bateman, and a pizza delivery guy. If it wasn't for Helen Mirren's British bitch boss, I think the movie would have come apart at the seams.

It was your typical thriller with twists and turns and antics galore. I wouldn't call it 'predictable' per say, but I wouldn't call it 'thrilling' either. It was just MEH. Decent acting made it worth watching, but I couldn't get nearly as passionate about a newspaper story as the characters seemed to. Granted, the story was supposed to be the biggest thing to happen in Washington D.C. since the War of 1812, but still...

When you go see a thriller type movie, you kind of have to pay attention to the story in order to get the full experience out of the movie. It was in paying attention to what was being presented that messed up the end of the movie for me, which is probably why I didn't enjoy the film nearly as much as I could have. I won't spoil it per say, but if you're going to see this movie, take a hint: pay attention to the fluff piece photo.

This movie wasn't worth the trip to the theatre, but if you're a thriller junkie or you just have a thing for Mr. Garner (who is, by the way, getting better looking with age), catch this one on DVD.

If anyone wants my cell phone I will happily PM it - I'm on Telus so I also have the mike phone. However, I cannot receive or send text messages so don't try it, please.

Speaking of PMs: dx, dude, you need to give me your address so I can pick you up after I play on Monday. Please and thanks.

Baseball doesn't do it for me, but if it's cheap and it catches anyone else's interest, I'd be more than happy to go. Again, I'll have a go at just about anything people suggest as long as it isn't (extremely) illegal and relatively cheap.

Ok, let's shoot for May 19th.  We can meet up at the dumpling place in Chinatown and then pay a visit to Kensington Market and then head off to wherever else after that.  What's a good time for everyone to meet up at?

For me, this will all depend on a) how early folk want to get out of bed, b) who I can sweet talk into sitting and c) how late we plan on being.

Also, who am I picking up?

I know, we'll make a day of crashing everyone's work. Walk in, announce ourselves as your friends from the internet, and see how many get canned.

19 May works for me.

Doing the tourist-y stuff in Toronto is expensive. It cost me almost $30 just to go up in the CN Tower, and I can't imagine that anything else well-known in the city is going to be cheap to explore. We were in Kensington Market in February and I wouldn't mind exploring it more (sans 35lbs of clingy child), and I'm always up for food. Picinics are always fun but, honestly, I'm in this for the people. HOORAY GW.

dx I can pick you up; it'll just be really freaking early in the morning. And, we'd have to leave Toronto between 6PM and 8PM in order to get the drive over and done with before I get tired.

And if we do plan for an island thing and the weather turns to shit, we need a plan B that won't break the bank.

I would prefer a weekday, if we do this in May; my weekends are booked up through the end of June. I've been up to the CN Tower (expensive + heart-stopping fright), and I've been to a couple of the malls. I wouldn't mind the ROM, or other fun places to go stare at things while in the presence of adults. Or we could just hang out somewhere; either way, it doesn't bother me. I don't know much about Toronto and it's fun times, so I'm at the mercy of others who are more knowledgeable in that regard.

Sorry I got a little hot under the collar just thinking about it

Don't get excited; I'm gonna be there, too.

Anyway, I could do a mini-meet in May as well, provided the dates don't clash with any performances I have. Hell, at the rate I've been road tripping the last couple of months, I'll probably end up in Toronto anyway.

The more I hear about Knowing, the less I want to see it.

Fast & Furious is touted as 'New Model. Original Parts.' It casts Vin Diesel and some other people as their characters from the first F&F movie, only this time, it's different. Really. Seriously.

Sure, there's a story, but most people don't go to watch a F&F movie to envelop themselves in a story of lost loves, emotional tangles and friendship bonds that transcend law and basic common sense. Nope, we watch Fast & Furious for the cars. And the driving of said cars. Crashing of said cars. Explosions of said cars. Bare knuckles all-out racing and the hot underground life many of us long to have. Me, personally, I went to see Vin Diesel. Paul Walker and supporting cast did a great job keeping the movie together and the soundtrack did its job.

I'm something of a gear head, and I'm a sucker for a fast car. I know I was supposed to care about the story but, to be quite honest, I didn't. I went into the movie looking for an hour and a half of fancy, over-the-top driving with Vin Diesel and I got exactly what I paid for. For me, it was worth the price of admission plus the drive to the theatre. However, if you're not seriously into cars or Vin Diesel,  you should probably wait for this to come out for rental.

Maybe 'earthier' is a better word... It's not full of Hollywood fluff (a la Michael Bay "LET'S BLOW SHIT UP BECAUSE IT'S THERE AND IT'LL LOOK REALLY COOL!!!")

I also got the fact that, the first time around, he was hopped up on acid. But what was he doing? Taking hits of acid without telling anyone? That general kept popping up, even after the acid had worn off.

I wanted to get out this weekend and take Autumn to see Monsters versus Aliens but, alas, sickness has forced us indoors. At least, for the time being. Also, with all the discussion of Knowing in this topic, I'm seriously considering going to see it, despite the fact that Nic Cage makes my skin crawl. ANYWAY...

In the Electric Mist stars Tommy Lee Jones as reformed alcoholic investigator Dave Robicheaux. Apparently, when he was a kid, he watched a couple of people kill a guy, and now, 40 years later, some A-list actor discovers the remains which sends Dave into an investigation of the sultry, balmy New Orleans underworld headed up by none other than John Goodman. And then Confederate General John Bell Hood shows up and starts giving Dave advice.

This movie was weird, but I found myself compelled to see it through to the end. The supporting cast kept me engaged even when the story seemed to come grinding to a halt. It took me a while to figure out what, exactly, was supposed to be going on and even now I'm not entirely sure I got the whole movie. Apparently, this movie was based on a book, so I plan on reading the book. It's worth the rental, especially if you like grittier type films.
