I guess somone missed Ulver.
For ambient:
Ulver
Biosphere
Deaf Center
Helios
Future Sound of London

IDM:
Gridlock
Orbital
Autechre

Psychedelic:
Shpongle
Astral Projection
Nystagmus
Yahel

At the very least try the three highlights. I would call those three groups likely the best electronica out there. Amon Tobin and Brian Eno are good too, but everyone recommends them so I tried to give you stuff that isn't as well known. I would highly recommend against Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin, mainly because those are acts for people who have not experienced much in the way of electronica. Chemical Brothers are alright, but not if you actually want to LIKE electronica. You can't appreciate them without having listened to many other acts. Aphex Twin is garbage, but it is readily accessible for the main stream, so most people have heard him and like to claim they like him so they look like they are WELL VERSED IN MANY TYPES OF MUSIC. I could recommend you some other more accessible electronica like Tiesto, but trance is kind of like the pop of electronica and, again, you can't really appreciate what is good and bad in trance without having listened to lots of electronica. Otherwise you will either think it is AMAZING STUFF when it really isn't or REPETITIVE BULLCRAP when it isn't. I always recommend exploring genres from the bottom up rather than from the top down; that way you get an appreciation for the whole genre rather than just what you can buy at your local music store.

Well as most people who have been into #music lately know, new Ulver album coming out in a little over a month.

6-7 was terrible, seriously. Recycled scenes, flashbacks, and a snails pace plot advancement. If this quality doesn't pick up in 3 episodes I'm done with watching Naruto.

"WTF? he still can't do it without a clone?"
Well, not to switch sides from complaining to defending here, but the Rasengan is a "legendary" class move. To my knowledge only three people in history have been able to learn it (including Naruto) and the fact that it is nearly an impossible move to master means that it is acceptable that Naruto can't perform it in its true form. I believe Jiraya even said his own version was less effective than the Fourth's. This indicated (to me, at least) that the only one who could actually do the move correctly was the man who invented it (an opinion held by most characters in the anime iirc) and Naruto just found a way to use a normally unusable move by circumventing the norm. The fact that he can use it at all is shocking if you hold the same views as the characters in the show, so I would not say his having to use a clone to cast it is anything that diminishes the fact he can do it at all.

It really seems like they are trying to fill up episodes with fluff. Considering the amount of time they waited, this should not be happening at all. I am becoming increasingly disappointed with the way they are handling the new show.

Time to revamp the rules topic because I am bored!

This forum is for posting introductory topics and for informing members of your leaving or absences. The key thing to mention here is that this is a lax forum, For those of you unfamiliar with the history of GW, we used to ban people daily in this forum for not complying with simple rules. We won't ban you here any more. This may or may not be a good thing. Also bear in mind that posting in this forum does not increase your post count.

There are, however, still simple rules that you can be warned for breaking. These are in addition to the normal general forum rules.
  • Do not flame new members. You may suggest ways they can improve their behavior to fit in here, but do not insult them. I would like this to stay a friendly forum (as friendly as GW gets) to encourage people to stay here.
  • Only post a welcome topic if you are, indeed, a new member. If you have more than...say...50 posts or you have been here for like 6 months, don't post a welcome topic because odds are, we already know you. Exceptions are if you, for instance, joined a year ago and made 2 posts and now plan to be more active.
  • Only post a topic about leaving if you are leaving for more than two weeks or so.
  • Don't bump topics over around a week old.
Just because this forum is lax, doesn't mean your topics should be "hi guys im new" and that's it. The point of a topic is to introduce yourself. If you don't tell us anything about yourself, you will be asked politely by me to do so. If you don't, you'll probably be met with negative responses from other members. The other big issue is that while this is a gaming community, there are many people here, myself included, that care nothing about making games or playing them, so you probably don't want to include only game information in your topic.

Here are a few questions you might answer if you don't know what to talk about. I don't know what your mommy or the news media told you, but online stalkers aren't going to kidnap you if you give us some information about yourself.
  • What kind of music do you like?
  • Where do you live?
  • How old are you?
  • What do you think about politics?
  • What kind of games do you like?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • Do you like anime?
  • Why did you join Gaming World?

Answering even one or two of those questions is better than nothing and you will likely get a good response from people whose answers are similar.

I'll probably get negative feedback on this like OH GOD THOSE MOVIES SUCK, but very few movies really catch my attention and these caught my attention the most.

1. Casino
d) Martin Scorsese
s) Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, James Woods, Sharon Stone
Definitely my favorite movie ever. I've heard a lot of bad comments on it, but I still love mafia movies, and this one has the best atmosphere of all of them. You'll notice a lot of the movies I like have this similar depressed and detached atmosphere to them.

2. Lord of War
d) Andrew Niccol
s) Nicolas Cage, Jared Leto, Ethan Hawke
I love the way the lines of good and evil are screwed around with in this movie. I've always loved movies where the "good guy" is really the "bad guy."

3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
d) Terry Gilliam
s) Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro
What is not to like about a movie about two guys going to Las Vegas with a suitcase full of drugs and hallucinating. The added sort of intellectual bonuses are good as well.

4. Syriana
d) Stephen Gaghan
s) Alexander Siddig, George Clooney, Matt Damon
A lot of drama and politics going on in this movie and I love drama and politics.

5. Gladiator
d) Ridley Scott
s) Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Djimon Hounsou
Okay, so being a history buff, I should probably hate this movie since there are a number of glaring historical inaccuracies...but it is still an awesome movie if you take it for what it is: fiction.

6. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
d) Peter Jackson
s) Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood
This movie should be on anyone's top 10, really. Probably the best produced movie in history to date, amazing acting, wonderful directing, and a great atmosphere to go along with it.

7. Lost in Translation
d) Sofia Coppola
s) Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray
Another one of those detached movies. This and Solaris both have this same kind of effect on me.

8. Solaris
d) Steven Soderbergh
s) George Clooney

9. Death to Smoochy
d) Danny DeVito
s) Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Jon Stewart
Definitely my favorite comedy movie ever. Grim, sarcastic humor and Robin Williams is a deranged psychopath ex-children television star. What is funnier than this?

10. Hotel Rwanda
d) Terry George
s) Don Cheadle
Amazing acting and a compelling true story. What more can you ask for.

I was a huge fan of Bleach (it reached #5 on my top anime charts for a brief period) while it was not on filler, so I will be happy to pick it up again. I stopped at the last episode of the Soul Society arc, so should I dowload and watch the fillers or just pick up when the new arc starts?

I see plenty of IRC discussion going on about bands and genres, usually this is centered around the zoo, but frequently it is also just for kicks, so I decided to register #music and hopefully turn it into a place where everyone on GW can come to talk about music of all kinds.

Current OPs:
~Jeff
&DragonSlayer
&HybridZero
@Moriason
@DarkPriest
@ATARI
%Wash Cycle
%Teloch
%dom

Anyway, if you are looking for a place to talk about music of broaden your musical horizons or even just request music on the zoo or IRC transfer, I hope you'll come to #music. We typically have close to 30 people on during active times, and there is a massive variety of tastes, though the dominant ones are post-rock/indie and prog/power metal.

Many of the members in the room have last.fm, so it might be advantageous to sign up for an account there. Gaming World has a group there as well, but it requires a member approval to enter, so if you want to get in, leave me a message in my shoutbox. Recently we also had some fun with a personality group.

I don't see why there is any case you would post a picture that stretches in 1024x768. I mean, the whahay uploader won't take it most likely, so you are either leeching or just being a prick by not resizing it. Even in photoshop topics it hasn't really come up, so I don't see why we should allow massive images at all without a direct link rather than posting in topic.

lol soldat is for fagsAnyway, good job, DS. We must recruit new children for the ongoing war. There's quite a bit of the social aspects of Soldat that you didn't cover, but I suppose it is best for new members to learn these things on their own.
