Are teams aloud? Because I'm not really a programming kind of guy, but I'm a Music Composition major and I've been really aching to do a game soundtrack. If that's cool and anyone needs some tunes, PM me and I'll be more than happy to make music for you.

I just played through Shadowrun Returns. It has kind of an uneven balance between really railroaded point and click adventure style game play and turn based strategy. It's enjoyable and works to tell the story but I would have enjoyed a little more space to go on side quests and explore. The first 80% of it is like a cakewalk and then in the last bit it stops fucking around and becomes a fairly challenging strategy game. The story starts out pretty cool but the change in plot from murder mystery to kind of fell flat for me. Overall it was a pretty cool little game and I look forward to what the community does with the mod tools.

I just played through KOTOR 2. Overall it's really good, but the end has a pretty unfinished feel. The first one is probably a little bit better, but I think that it was a really solid sequel that did a good job of not being just a rehash of its predecessor. Now I'm going to take a little break before starting up one of the other games that I accumulated during the Steam Sale.

Does anyone have experience with recording a guitar amp? I've got a 70s tube that makes some pretty wicked sound and produces a lot of incidental noise that I'd like to record. Do I just put a mic in front of it?
While turbo had some good advice, remember that there is no perfect way of miking amps as every amp is different and there are many guitar sounds and whatnot. Placing your mic at different places of the speaker can drastically change the sound of your recording.  I would test out a few mic placements until you get the right blend of sounds you want.

I eagerly await to see some rad animated cutscenes. This seems like an accomplishment for not just TOG, but all of Gaming World. Semper Games, everybody.

I got Dawnguard for half off on a Steam Sale. It's really mediocre. I got about halfway through with my mage character before I realized you needed to have gotten pretty far in the main quest to complete the DLC. My mage character was not even close to that part of the main quest, so I restarted with my shitty fighter that I played through the main quest with. Siding with the dawnguard or the vampires barely matters at all as you get the same companion, endgoal and boss no matter what and you can also decide to be a vampire at a few different times if you side with the dawnguard. I assume they made it longer because the DLCs for Fallout 3 only took a couple hours to play through, but they made it longer with a bunch of padding and subplots that just made everything more stupid and convoluted. I would have preferred it about half as long, really. After the end boss they basically just say "thanks for beating the boss, dude." No cutscene or anything, although every fucking questline in Skyrim ended that way so I don't know why I was still dissapointed. That sounds like I totally hated it but it was better than a lot of the quest lines in the main game.

Does anyone have an opinion on Dragonborn? I'm a bit more apprehensive to get it now, but at the same time those Morrowind throwbacks have me interested.

"Back in my day we listened to REAL music...like Porcupine Tree"

I remember I got on the Porcupine Tree bandwagon right before the rest of Gaming World abruptly stopped liking them. Good times.

I also really like the Screaming Females album that came out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ism4J7QvsZQ
I saw this band on a whim this year after they played a club not too far from my apartment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtkePLlTUcY
I still haven't heard too much of the new Dinosaur Jr. album, but I saw them on the tour for it.

It's not that I'm afraid you'll laugh at my music choices or something, I'm really drawing a blank. Most of the stuff I listened to this year was older or local stuff.

EDIT: I am checking out the songs everyone puts up, though. I have some good music to catch up on it seems.

The amount of music released that left an impression this year is very low for me.

I guess Mac DeMarco's album was ok. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2_r94MwW18

I might think of more later.

It's too bad that it came to this, but completely understandable. I think deep down he really just wanted to say that this place isn't as carefree as it used to be, but he went about it completely the wrong way. I was afraid to join this discussion as I wasn't about to stick up for what Shep was saying but I didn't think he was trying to be intentionally malicious at all. I hope he can use this as a learning experience and clean up his act a bit, because I would like to see him back as he was a fun and creative person to have around in the GW times.

I used to sit next to the same kid on the bus every day in Kindergarten. One day he was sitting next to two other kids and looked me in the eye and said "you can't sit here." I went to a different seat and cried.

I watched Highlander 2: The Quickening the other day. It was so nonsensical and over the top that I actually enjoyed it. Probably more than the first one. I find it crazy that so many people got so pissed off at this movie instead of being entertained by how hilariously bad it is. Like yeah, it completely ruins the first one's mythology, it's really stupid and doesn't make any sense, but the first one was also stupid and didn't make any sense.
