Alright, 2 more opted in, bringing us to 4 so far. That's enough to get started at least, so I'm going to go ahead with the first year. If anyone wants dibs on a dwarf, just let me know.

P.S. The site isn't a traditional mountain fort either, just so y'all know. :fogetshh:

I was going to venture the same, though the guy in the bottom right looks like late 80's era non-anime Sega art.. reminds me of Alex Kidd in a way... complete with horrible pillow-shading on the pixel art.

Edit: Thats not Warsong, is it?

For those of you who haven't heard of it, Dwarf Fortress is a cross-platform computer Strategy Game developed by Bay 12 Games. In it, you play as a group of dwarves trying to build a successful fortress, in hopes that it will eventually grow to become the capitol of your nation, while defending against sieges, natural disasters, baby-snatchers, and the occasional Titan bent on stomping your little Dwarves into the granite floor.

Anyway, I'd like to extend an invitation to any GWers, from novices to veterans, to join in a multiplayer Dwarf Fortress bloodline game. Signups are starting now, but if anyone who wants to join in after its started can jump in at the bottom of the que (so long as the fort has dwarves left of course). All you need to do is Download the game from Bay 12's Website, and sign up here. If you're completely new to the game, I might suggest checking out the Dwarf Fortress Wiki and getting a few practice forts in so that you know the basics when your turn comes up.

In a bloodline game, when a player's turn comes up, they inherit control of the fortress for one game year. The first year, players select one of the Dwarves currently in the fort who doesn't belong to someone else, and they become your character. After the year is up and a new Spring arrives, the old leader retires to their profession to make room for a new leader. Next time your turn rolls around, you can re-select the old leader, or pick a new one.

If anyone has any other questions about the game, how Bloodline Games work, or whatever I'd be happy to answer too.[/quote]

you guys rock. i don't think there is a single game that the community hasn't played (collectively of course).

As this thread is a testament to. GW is pretty huge and pretty eclectic, from ages to nationalities, so it stands to reason the game tastes are just about as eclectic.

Even so, no one got the last one. Ouverture Facile. It's an online French puzzle game in the vein of the GW Troubadors' hype thingy from '07

P.S. Next Turn is free for the taking peeps.

Across the Universe. It was like the Beatles were put into a grape-press and their essence was squeezed out and aged in the minds of a generation, and then painted onto a film reel.

Oh, and it had Eddie Izzard. Singing. Surrounded by the Blue Meanies.

3 Cheers for Capitolism! Hip Hip... *silence*

Yeah, as an American hourly supermarket employee, I too can vouche for the insanity. I've delt with more stress, bitterness, and general angry madness from customers today than I do in a normal month's time.

It would seem that the spirit of the Yuletide holidays and all that has since been replaced by a nigh-murderous lust to save 5-15% on goods.

Hell, at least it can be entertaining to watch from a distance. In a sort of Dark Comedy way.

Reading this, I can't help but feel like I've lost a friend whom I never really had.

I'd always hoped I'd get a chance to get to know you better. You've an intelligent and creative spirit, and have been looked to as a friend and mentor to many. Though I've not said much openly, I've always admired your work, and followed a lot of your projects, from things Artistic to RP Stuff, and so on, and have always admired your enthusiasm for whatever it is you do.

I hope that wherever life takes you, you can maintain that eclectic creativity and enthusiasm for your crafts, and can find a place where they can grow into something bigger.

Best of luck to you.

Did this thing grind to a halt, Sarevok? I'm kinda kicking myself that this completely flew under the radar for me. If it's still going, count me in. Otherwise, if folks are still down for it, I'd be game for starting a new fort.

Also EDC, the majority of critters, civilizations, items, and everything but core mechanics are designed with a series of tags that make modding easy. Add the [Firebreath] tag to the Dwarves racial entry, for instance, and they'll be blasting things with gouts of flame. More subtly, something like [LikesViolence] or [BoneCarn] will make them derive happy thoughts from violence, or eat and digest bones. You can create completely new races too, as well as item classes, etc.

I've also tweaked the game to play Goblin Towers and Human Settlements instead of Dwarf Forts, which actually changes the game pretty significantly. It can be kind of fun too, if you're looking for a change of pace, though Humans are the most playable other Civilization as default.

Actually, a lot of the jobs you don't consider "wierd" are pretty different, and rank high on cool. It's neat to hear about jobs that aren't those run-of-the-mill jobs you pick as kids, like Fireman or Astronaut, or Accounts Payable Representative.

As for what the eyes are for, they're coming from recently deceased organ donars... basically they someone to assess the health of eyes (make sure they're not diseased or messed up) and such, remove them, and preserve them for transplants, experiments on eyes and eye tissues, etc.

And yeah, TFT, having to dehumanize the corpses in order to do the job is something that's holding me back... I mean, I've done dissections before, but never on a human body, and I can look at corpses clinically, but I'm afraid that doing that for too long could make me start to dehumanize living people too. Your old girlfriend liked it though? Was she some kind of übergoth, or was there something actually cool? (I'm anticipating a lot of "Give me a hand here" and "Keep an eye on this for me, would ya?" morgue humor).

Also Esp, I am hurting for money badly, hence why I'm considering it. It's enough to pay off all my debts in a matter of a few months, and would help me get out of the tiny 1 room efficiency I'm living in right now. (BTW, is that an oil rig? That is seriously cool! What do you do? It's got to get a bit lonely out there, but I assume they've got stores and stuff... and of course, the Internets.)

So yeah, basically what this is looking like is that I'm be selling me soul for money. Awesome!

As one of the many folks stuck in Work Limbo... somewhere between some awesome career, and working odd jobs at restaurants and retail stores, I've been looking for new and exciting jobs to help break the monotony of the same old service industry crap. Granted this usually means getting a job at a store that sells something Unusual, or (gasp!) becoming a Manager for the place, but that doesn't really get me closer to where I want to be...

...which is why the email I got from my school councilor about some big job in a Biomedical Lab totally piqued my interest. I mean, I've got half a Biology degree under my belt- shouldn't that get me something more than scanning bar codes for minimum wage? Needless to say, I accepted the offer, and got in touch with the guys to find out just what the job was about. And when I heard it, it just about floored me.

Apparently, they needed someone for the midnight shift to harvest eyes from dead bodies. Dead human bodies.

...yeah.

Organ Donar Processing and Morgue Operations is pretty high up on my list of questionable work.... but its a change of pace, and at over $20 US hourly, it's looking really tempting. I'm still mulling over whether to take it (my ever-insightful roommate's only comment was "That job is so F-ing Metal"), but that offer got me thinking about just how many absolutely friggin' weird jobs must be out there.

And so I come to you, people of GamingWorld.... What's the weirdest job you've ever worked? And have you heard of anything further out there than working midnights picking the eyes out of corpses?

P.S. I'm baaaa-ack.

I suspect its stress-related. I had a friend back in highschool who had eye twitches when she was nervous. I think she got them while driving too, but basically during any situation where she was "keyed up" or doing something that required a lot of attention.

I shared an art class with her... and on days she didn't take her medication, she was rather funny to watch. Yes I'm a horrible person.

Anyway, medications are available for involuntary twitching, but are usually reserved for the harshest cases. Does it get pretty bad? And do you notice it at other times at all?

New Commercial
http://wii.com/jp/movies/wii-cm-soft86/

The Japanese seem to like adding English letters onto the ends of game titles. I kinda like the sound of "Super Smash Bros. X" though.

Also, that commercial tripped my geek humor; Mario dropkicks Zelda and takes center stage, and his name pops up, and then the symbol for "Wa" comes down and knocks "Ma" away as Wario smashes him off the stage. Then Mario comes back again, his name pops up again, and boom, a pikmin smashes him out of the way, and the "O" and "Ma" swap places to spell Orimaa.

Funny stuff.

I agree with RPG about the secret forum, and with revising how making the Chain Game is set up... I had an idea that I've been tossing around with for a while, and I think it would work for the new Chain Game.

Basically, there's no wait to do your chapter, like in the past. Everyone works simultaneously, and blind to what everyone else is doing as well. Then, the team shares the chapters, assembles them into some sort of order, and then split up again to make chapters that connect the random ones together. The logistics of this are all planned out, but I won't bore people with them unless the idea takes off.

Quote from: Myself
MORE SPECIFICALLY:
----------------------

The Set Up)
- - Everyone comes up with a cast of Main Heroes / Main Villains, and some vague-ish setting details (time period, world, other setting details, etc.)

Phase 1)
- - Everyone is randomly assigned a chapter title, theme, or some component that must be featured in the title. No one knows what anyone else's chapter title is, nor where their chapter will fit (beginning, middle, end, etc.) All characters and Main Villains are assumed to have know each other prior to the chapter.
(Optional: Use a random generator like SeventhSanctum to come up with chapter titles or themes)

Phase 2)
- - The chapters are shared, and assembled into something that vaguely resembles sense. The team then choose/are assigned to create interludes that happen between two chapters, connecting them together as best as possible.

Phase 3)
- - Everything is assembled, and the team is assembled to discuss tweeks, corrections, and such, which the project leader is responsible for doing. Also, the Intro and Finale are created.

**Alternatively, Phase 1 could be chapters that go from "Intro" to "Major Turning Point", Phase 2 is "Midpoint" to "Climax, and Phase 3 is Connecting them all together with interludes, and doing the Finale.

P.S. I really like DP's Dungeon Crawl idea... perhaps a fusion of that and this would be nice? Some dungeon crawl with a vague-ish plot, where people are assigned a hero level / dungeon challenge range, and then split to create the chapters / levels of the dungeon, and later assemble them together.

Oddly, I was thinking of a few old characters that I've always thought ought to be honored with a spot in a Smash Bros. game:

Pacman - One of the oldest game characters, right up there in the venerable ranks of the Pong paddle and such. I'm thinking Super Pacman style too, rather than the old-school 2D pizza-shaped pacman, the one with eyes and a cape and all. Final Smash being the power pill, where everyone goes all "blue ghost" (looses the ability to attack for the duration of the smash, and their appearance changes to monochrome blue with white eyespots)

Megaman - Old-school, or X style. With all the different mega man powers through the years, Im thinking the ability to swap between suit-types and the plain B attack changing accordingly. As for a Final Smash, something along the lines of calling in Rush as a secondary fighter, or to bomb the heck out of the stage.

Chrono - They seem to have avoided RPG characters so far (unless you count FE), but Chrono is so nearly a fighting game character already, he would work well (not to mention, with the addition to the SSB lineup, Development of Chrono Break might be able to continue again). As far as a final smash, possibly calling in a cameo combo with other characters, or just Luminare.

Black Mage/Vivi - FF needs a representation in Smash Bros. being one of the oldest and largest RPG franchises that Nintendo ever started, and Vivi is one of the few developed characters that hearkens back to the very beginning of the series, yet is a developed character. for a Final Smash, I'm thinking Trance Mode MagicX for Vivi, or in the case of the Black Mage, Ultima.

P.S. ...and like parasols to simulate Peach's moves, Excitebikes should definitely be an item to simulate Wario's bike. Not to mention it'd be flipping sweet to mow people down with a piece of ancient Nintendo history.

Am I the only one who thinks that Pokemon Trainer seems like a really odd character to add in? I mean, especially when you already have Pokeballs as items (well, I guess they aren't confirmed yet) and Pikachu as a playable character.

Still, I've kinda hoped they'd add more playable pokemon, and this kinda fits the bill. I just wonder about how the whole stamina thing is going to work.

And no, can't say I own one. I was always more of a Marching Band guy anyway.
