Started playing Alpha Protocol on the PS3. Only into the first mission so far but I'm actually enjoying this. I'm not really into shooters so I appreciate that I can take the stealth approach the majority of the times, and I like the timed conversation system - it really forces you to think quickly how to approach a conversation. I wish more RPGs had this. Can't believe this game got pretty bad reviews.. unless the quality drops off later on in the game.

Me too. Oh well, it can't possibly be worse than Battle LA, so I'll go into it with low expectations and hopefully come out on top that way.

I watched Dante 01 last night. It's about a space station above the hell-like planet Dante 01 that is a holding cell/research facility for institutionalized convicts. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and where the movie was headed, but then in the last 5 minutes it's like the entire movie came off the rails and crashed in a bizarre explosion (and not in a good way. This was almost like Darren Aronofsky-weird, although unlike Darren's storytelling process, this didn't really make sense.)

Apparently the movie ran into production issues and the film ending was not what the director initially intended. No one seems to know what the better ending is though which is a bummer.

I watched Cell 211 last night. It was pretty good! The opening scene made me cringe more than any of the SAW films... I'm usually not averse to gore but for some reason I just can't handle seeing someone slit their wrists.. gah.  The movie is about a new prison guard employee who comes in to work a day early to get himself orientated. As luck would have it, a prison riot breaks out and he ends up on the wrong side of the bars, on the cell block with the rest of the prisoners. Thinking quickly he makes himself appear to be a newly convicted prisoner so as to gain the rioters' trust.

It's an interesting thriller and it goes in a direction I didn't really expect. Apparently there's an American remake planned for 2013. I guess the general public is averse to reading Spanish subtitles.

So I watched this French film called Caché (Hidden). It's about a husband and wife who start receiving VHS tapes of surveillance of their house. Someone is watching them, but they have no idea why at first. It's a very slow paced movie until one scene that just causes your jaw to drop, but then afterwards the movie begins to drag again. People seem to praise the director (Haneke) for being very artistic in all his shots, so I had to check out another one of his films. I started watching Funny Games, which is about another couple and their son who go to their cottage but are then taken hostage by two sadistic men who toy with them. I can't believe how bored I was by this. How can you make a torture flick this boring? I didn't even finish the movie. I started up and stopped it multiple times.. it was just so blah. Can't believe people praise this director.. I think they're smoking crack along with him.

I don't usually have celebrity crushes, but Rose Byrne just does it for me. I love her in Damages.

Speaking of Damages, I'm not ashamed to say that season 4 made me have a mancrush on Chris Messina.

I seem to be going through a sci-fi tv show phase at the moment.

- I recently finished watching the 4400. Not bad at all. I had to force myself through some of the earlier episodes but by season 3 the show really picks up but unfortunately it is cut too short at the end of season 4. Too bad.
- I'm 2/3rds into watching the Lost Room. It only has 6 episodes so check it out if you want to watch a quick show. The first episode was a little lack lustre until you get half-way through it, then things kick up a notch and you realize you're going to have a wild ride with this one. Not sure if the last episode has a satisfying conclusion. Once I watch it I'll let you know.
- Farscape. Oh Farscape, how I love your strange quirkiness. I'm currently ending season 3. Don't be put off by the muppets comments by the show's detractors - the muppet characters are so lifelike you'll quickly forget they're puppets. The show seems to sometimes follow an overlying storyline, but then sometimes goes into random episode-of-the-week moments. It's not for everyone, but if you're a fan of light-hearted sci-fi, this show will be right up your alley. The characters are awesome, and together they form this dysfunctional family that is always bickering and swearing at each other (gotta love their own invented swear words like frell, yotz, and drenn which they throw out a lot) but always working together when it counts the most.

Yeah, I'm fine with transferring to another board software. I don't think anyone will mind the downtime much. It's not like this place is bustling with activity nowadays.

I'm coming out of lurking to say that I think the childboards are a little distracting and could be better off on their own, especially since they're read-only anyway. Unless we're planning on resurrecting the questions and answers forum I don't see a reason why it should be so upfront and center.

yeah when she said he was a "crackhead" I literally thought he fucked himself up on crack or something and was in a coma until they explained it. And those job titles were really interesting. Pretty much all of them collaborate with creating something.
It's also cool how the runtime of the film is 99 minutes. :)

I decided to watch the Nines since it was mentioned here and I actually think Ryan Reynolds is a pretty underrated actor, so that helped. (Spoilers incoming so don't read unless you've seen it).

I loved it! The way the story resolved and how the three parts tied in together was brilliant. Lots of moments where I gasped at certain revelations. It was like Memento in a way but a lot less choppy. I'm going to have to watch it again to fully appreciate it.

I think the film has multiple levels of explanation. Farren's is probably the most in-depth reasoning on the film, but on the surface, the film to me is about the multifaceted aspects of addiction. Ryan Reynold's character, as a Nine, has become addicted to the world he designed so much so that he has lost his own grip of reality. It is interesting that he takes on the roles of Game Designer (the impression I got from the film since he was called the Quentin Tarantino of the VG world is that he was a designer of an MMO) and Writer (one who actually states that he doesn't have a computer at home because he would never get any writing done if he had the chance to play video games all day and get lost in their worlds). As an actor he indulges in drugs, but ultimately he realizes that its not healthy to overindulge in any of these "worlds" so he gives them up completely.

I watched Event Horizon last night. It could have been so much better but I just feel like the movie fell apart 3/4s of the way with the "big" reveal which I found to be stupid. It would have been far better if they left the movie more open-ended and up for speculation but as it is it just hits you over the head with the surprise and the movie just deteriorates severely afterwards.

Oh, and the night before that I watched the Life of David Gale, as I heard it got pretty bad reviews (Roger Ebert gave it no stars) but I still wanted to see it as I'm a big Kevin Spacey fan. I have no idea what people's complaints about the movie are. I really enjoyed it.

Started Mass Effect 2 on the PC recently. I like not having to deal with an inventory since it was such a huge nuisance from the midpoint onwards of the first game, but I HATE how there is no way to assign a quick key to your Journal. Why would they remove such a simple basic functionality? Makes no sense to me.

I like the direction the game took as it completely caught me off guard in the intro. I love it when things like that happen.

On a random note, I love hearing Tricia Helfer's voice. <3

The easiest way to do it would be to get Swap Magic and install a flip top cover on your PS2. That's why I did and it was a very easy process. I never modded any system before but this was as easy as using a screw driver to unscrew a couple of screws and then screwing on a flip cover. Load the swap magic disk and then run the program, swapping it out with your game/burned copy of your game. It's as easy as that. I've had it for years and my slimline PS2 still works without hiccups.
