I have some more years until my 30s. Besides that, I'm finishing up my M.S. and about to set off to work. I'll be moving up to New York City, which will require some big adaptation in my lifestyle.

Other than that, nothing drastically new in my life. Those two things pretty much are the new steps in my life.

I'm not trying to play again and gather people, but just figured someone will respond eventually, as you did!

Holy crap I remember so many people by name, though I figure I'm a relatively vague stranger to many.

This place still exists in some way, shape, or form... but man, that feels like an eternity ago. I guess that's just because I was basically a kid though.

edit:
my xbox gamertag signature reminded me... i'm pretty certain belross is still on my friends list but i don't think i've ever played anything with him.

I don't know what you expect man, sometimes the network goes down for awhile. It's not really ridiculous, I am pretty sure Cox Cable didn't want a million pissed off idiots calling to complain they couldn't look at baseball scores online!

No, like, EVERY service (phone, TV, internet) of theirs went out and was out for more than the whole day. I mean, if you need to get something done, you'd be fucked.

I'm not saying outages are horrible things from hell. I understand it. Just it was kind of silly that the day after they fucked us over that happened. Idk.

Haha I mean yeah I knew that basically all of them are shit, but I just wondered what was the least shittiest.

But idk, like Verizon was okay then became horrible. And we don't have FiOs offered here (although it's in the next city over). But I don't know.

Kinda glad we didn't have Cox Cable installed because today they had an outage and so every service of theirs was out... Ridiculous shit.

Soooooooooooo.

I am trying to see if anyone knows any good ISPs on the (Mid)East Coast that aren't completely fucked monopolies and stuff. In today's society, it's pretty damn hard to find, but we're looking to find a new one.

We're currently with Verizon DSL (I live in Norfolk, VA) and they've been having shitty service. The internet just gets slower and slower as time goes on, and disconnects etc. We're supposed to be on a plan that is 3 Mbps, but speed tests have given us under 1 Mbps. After calling Tech Support many times, they claimed we were only supposed to get 1.5 Mbps and other such business. We went over the other problems we have (touching the phone disconnects the internet, etc. But it's not like it should do that). And they didn't really do anything.

Then we decided to go try Cox Cable. We'd had them many years ago and they gave us problems but we decided to try again. They guaranteed 20 Mbps minimum in writing, with that not being possible all the time of course but we figured hey. Well, when finalizing the contract on the phone, it hung up on us. Then we tried to contact the Tech support for them (same person we'd talked to about setting it up) and they never answered us for like a week. Today the service was supposed to be set up but they told us that we didn't have an account set up, and they gave us the run-around. Finally the person we spoke to before claimed "Oh. I've been gone, sorry." And ultimately we just decided to fuck it and cancel it.

So we're at a standstill, currently still having Verizon DSL but they suck. So we don't know want to do (me and my family and I, btw, is "we"). So we live in Hampton Roads area of Virginia...

1) We need a go ISP for this area... Is there one at all on this earth?

2) Anybody know of one out by Virginia Tech? I'll be heading back for my second year, to an apartment, and we still need an ISP there. Comcast is the one typical with the complex but that being considered the "Worst Company in America"... I have my doubts.

Somebody help, throw ideas out... :(

So.

Either people are going to hate me for bumping this topic up again, or they'll just be okay (no, I don't really think someone will hate me for it).

Today is my birthday. And I haven't been here for months on end. I decided to come back and check things out... Only to find this devastating news. I'd totally been sidetracked away by college and everything going on in my life, that I didn't constantly remember about Steel and his surgery.

Now I come back today when I'm supposed to be happy and joyous, only to see all this. It's been months, and I'm ridiculously out of the loop but I just wanted to say something. Even if I was never close with him at all like many of you, we'd said a few things before and I was the target of very small gags when I was younger on here.

But I have to say that he was a damn good guy at heart, and everyone knows it. I am sorry he had to go, but I really am sure he is at rest now. He is happy now, at peace.

What he wrote, what Steve posted... I have to say it is one of the most beautiful fucking things I've ever read in my life. It made me cry a decent amount for just being filled with happiness a short bit ago. And I am just awe-struck at how things have panned out, but it's that way, no changing.

And I believe it was ASE that posted the log where Steel talked about the Peace Corps earlier? He talked of helping people and that he wouldn't really have a chance to leave some mark on the earth.

I think he was wrong. All that he has done, all that he has said, it has left impressions on the earth, in its people, us. No matter whether he left a permanent impression on the whole earth. That does not matter.

He left an impression nonetheless. Not permanent, but still a deep and lasting impression. And I believe that is his legacy.

this seems like a question you should probably ask an advisor, counselor, or a math dept. person who works at the school you're attending instead of the gamingw.net forums

the whole point of this topic (i even wrote it in the post if you had read it) is that the advisor tells me something different from everyone else that i've ever talked to.

even the school's curriculum contradicts her.

but i guess i'll probably take multivariable first then.

So do you think I should take go ahead and get them to place me in it this semester with the classes I have or should I hold off and take it next semester maybe?

I know that's ultimately my choice but I'm not sure how hard these classes will be... I was the only person to get an A in my Dual Enrollment Physics class but I am by no means a supergenius at physics, so mainly I'm afraid of the Circuits class.

Alright, this is a bizarre question to ask up here on GW (especially since I haven't been here in forever) but there's quite a few bright people here, and I'm getting mixed signals about this.

I'm heading off to college at Virginia Tech in less than two weeks, and I've trying to work out one more thing with my schedule. As far as math goes, right now I have Linear Algebra on my schedule. When I got some help from counselors/whatever about fixing classes I already had credit for, I was told that I could go ahead and take Multivariable Calculus because I have already got the Prereq's for it (I've taken Calculus I and Calculus II in dual enrollment).

However, I was looking at the Computer Engineering curriculum and it lists that Differential Equations is the next math class to take, then Multivariable Calculus comes the semester after it. When I brought this up to the Engineering counselor, she said that it doesn't matter what order I take them in and that I could even take them at the same time...

It's just that I have the Prereq's for Multivariable, while I think Linear Algebra is a Prereq for Differential Equations so I have to finish that class first. Plus, my Calculus II teacher this past year went and took Differential Equations at a college over the past summer so he could prepare us for it, since he said it's the next math class.

So here I am being told that Diff Eqs. is next, while an Engineering advisor at my college is telling me that it doesn't matter.

Does anyone here know exactly if there is a real order to these classes, or whether I should wait or what?

Here is my current schedule, with 13 credit hours right now anyway:

Monday
8:00 - 8:50 AM == Engineering Problem Solving with C++
9:05 - 9:55 AM == Electric Circuit Analysis
3:35 - 4:25 PM == Linear Algebra

Tuesday
9:30 - 10:45 AM == Honors Freshman English
5:00 - 6:15 PM == Electric Circuit Analysis LAB

Wednesday
8:00 - 8:50 AM == Engineering Problem Solving with C++
9:05 - 9:55 AM == Electric Circuit Analysis

Thursday
9:30 - 10:45 AM == Honors Freshman English
5:00 - 6:50 PM == Engineering Problem Solving with C++
7:00 - 9:50 PM == "Free Time" (Supposedly certain planned tests will be taken here??)

Friday
9:05 - 9:55 AM == Electric Circuit Analysis

PLUS some online Digital Systems Transition class or something.

Any advice?

the best part is at least five people read panda's post and scowled competely on reflex because he used kotor and oblivion as examples of bad games for the very reasons they love it.

but man that shit annoys the fuck out of me too. i know you can blow up a town in fallout 3, but did that even matter as far as REAL PLOT?

lets make a game where you can accidentally shoot the main villain and then you never get to play fuck all or you do and there's just nothing really going on. openendedness for real...

snake...uh. just wait in the jungle a bit. i mean you kind of shot the boss. so.

your sister talk about me?
if i remember right in fallout if you actually go exploring you can find that secret vault with memory lane and your dad and all that stuff on your own, right from the beginning, thereby skipping like 3/4ths of the game's events or something.

that's great freedom there, skipping more than half the game you paid $60 for!

Shit man, must be hell getting all this treatment. I hope you get through this, my grandmother just died of lung cancer, 67 years old. It would be terrible if I hear about a tumor/cancer related death right now, hope this works out for you.
???????

what is up with half these points with tones of "WELP I HOPE YOU DON'T DIE YOU KNOW -- IT MIGHT REALLY HAPPEN"

seriously you shouldn't be like "it'd be terrible to hear you died!" i think that is acknowledged and doesn't really help shit at all.
