I currently have 6 months off since I can only start Uni in August/September because of what I chose to study. So far got rejected from one of the 3 universities. However, I need mucho money since I applied to study in another country so right now all I'm doing is working 6-7 days a week, playing 3-4h of drums per day, studying music theory, doing ear training etc.

They sound really good, if it'd work during the night when I'm sleeping, I'd sooooo buy a hundred of them...

And it's so cold here now, that I wear two pairs of socks, three t-shirts and one hoody!
Yesterday it was about -27C here with LOTS of wind which kinda sucked since the wind makes it feel much worse. As a child I remember some -40C though and jesus you're a pussy FrostyPink of you can't take the cold that much.

I miss the rain :(

On quite a lot of the places I hang out on the interwebs it's full of women :s :s but yeah I guess for most places it's weird since most interweb people are nerds who will probably never get laid until they're over 25 and if it's under that it's from a hooker or a fat disgusting woman with low self-esteem.

listening now

Dude, this sounds great. I'm a drummer, but not a jazz drummer, so I'm not all that qualified to comment on it, but it sounds REALLY good. DICK LOADS of ghost notes (isn't all jazz like that?)

By the way, nice song choice. I need to download this album.
Thanks hahaha. I'm more of a rock/metal drummer but I've been practicing a lot of jazz for the last 8-9 months and by practicing a good 4h a day sometimes more is a good way to learn it. Snare-wise yes most jazz is list that in the sense it's full of ghost notes. However, what you have to understand is that in jazz the most important instruments are your ride (for the swing) and your high hat which is traditionally on 2 and 4. That's why most rock drummers have such difficulty with jazz, it's just because they're used to having the snare and bass drum as the most important aspect. Generally, everything is played very softly in jazz because it's acoustic music traditionally speaking so you can't cover every other member of your band.

To Wince Wobbly, right now I'm in my 1h break from drum practice but after that I'll check to make a video with just a picture or something.

Hey guys, here is the first part of a drum recording I did on Jan 4th to apply as a music major in university. This screening tape is only used to determine if we get an audition. It's Freddie Freeloader by Miles Davis off the 1959 album Kind of Blue. I'd really appreciate constructive criticism. I'm playing over the original song. The file is a bit heavy since the song is 19 mins long and I converted it form wave to MP3 using iTunes.

i don't think it's too encouraging to say he could be like phil collins or the edge
I'm not saying he could be like them, they've had that tinnitus because of all their performances without proper protection for many many years.

I've always had tinnitus since I've been a child yet the range of frequencies I can hear is very very large and better than most people. You'll get used to the hissing eventually when it comes to sleeping btw. I know my ears have gotten worse over the years because of concerts and drumming (even though I wear ear plugs + isolation headphones... I'm still playing at least 3h-4h a day so). Just go take some tests and freaking out over it won't bring you much so relax.

Also, remember that Beethoven was deaf. Many other musicians have horrible tinnitus like Phil Collins and The Edge. I wouldn't be surprised if Nicko McBrain has it too. The drummer from Amebix had it really bad too.

Can we PLEASE make a memorial for him or at least put a picture of him or something on the main page? I mean, Steel was fucking awesome, he deserves it.

Thanks a lot for the stories Jon

I dislike it that when you argue about something with your parents, you can't argue with them because they can't. And when you point out the argument fallacy they just get pissed -_-
