Oh actually! I'm not sure if anyone here would have any leads on this (nor whether this will be read for a month, as we all seem to stagger our logins pretty well!) but I have a friend who's making a documentary series on game communities (both in games and around game makers - he's done Doom and ZZT, for instance), and he's interested in covering both the Western and Japanese RPGMaker communities. For each episode he generally interviews one or two people and they'll act as kind of oral historians / guides for their community. Anyway! I was wondering if anyone has a window into the Japanese side of the community? Or any topics / people you think might be good for the Western community, though I think he already has someone in mind!

I spent a couple weekends ago watching all of Over the Garden Wall. (You can watch it all on Hulu Plus ad-free, or there are probably loads of streams.) Just sat down in the morning and stirred a couple hours later. It's great! The frogs are the best! It's beautiful and silly and frightening, and the music is excellent.

Here's the pilot:

You have to go to the Goodies > Brush Shape menu to change brush size.

circi is the plural of circus, ciricus is not a word, circa is a separate word (with the same root) meaning near/around, among other things

like Hundley, I don't know if I'll make anything, at least anything I feel like showing people, but I'd like to try out Twine or AGS

How much saving in an old game with no saves constitutes save scumming? Any? One per stage?

Did you ever listen to the Coca-Cola musicals? I think Adeline linked them years ago. "American Heritage" is hard to top, but The Grip of Leadership is pretty consistent, apart from "I Hear America Singing", which is very bad. People Power is just a bland imitation of hip youth culture, for the most part, but "The Real World of Coffee" would fit in any joyless game area, and the "People Power" instrumentals would work well in a sort of They Live city street scene

Same, although the silhouetted version of it looks weird in all but the smallest size. It's the only one that implies some sort of commerce. What are the red triangles for?

the dawn redwood has really excellent roots too, though not as interesting as banyans

I thought you'd like the colors on this one, given your usual palette. Are you trying to reuse the same basic tree crown throughout all of this? It seems to be the most work-intensive part, but the rainbow eucalyptus has kind of sparse, loose foliage, not tight balls. This has a good variety of angles.

How long did it take for you to go from attempt #1 to attempt #4? Or just a rough timeline for all of those. Glitchy-looking unfinished bits aside, everything looks pretty great! Are you putting references to past projects in the decor? That wall doodle (?) resembles a certain laid-back carrot.

tree requests:
-dawn redwood
-incense cedar
-banyan
-rainbow eucalyptus
-dove tree

A week ago I went to a Taiwanese place for dinner & got stinky tofu (the usual way, but without much of a chili sauce). I managed to swallow one piece; my sister nibbled off a corner, although I'm not sure if she spit it out. But I thought there was a little nugget of wonderful savory flavor in there somewhere, so I got it boxed up to revisit when my tastebuds had forgotten & it had, perhaps, mellowed after more thoroughly soaking up the sauce.

Today seemed like a good day for that. They smell pretty strong (which, actually, was barely the case before), but I nibbled a bit of one and it does seem to have toned down a lot. Part of the difference may be from eating it cold, which tends to lessen flavor. Before, the longer it spent in my mouth, the more putrid it became, but that's barely an issue now. The taste also doesn't linger nearly as terribly. It's still pretty gross, though. I am afraid that my sisters will come back and be awfully disgusted by the smell. I ran out and threw the takeout box wrapped in a plastic bag in a public trashcan, but there's still like half of it left here (also wrapped in a plastic bag).

Obviously the taste & smell vary from fermentation juice to fermentation juice, but my sister thinks it tasted how pot smells, and I just thought it tasted like how a lightly aged hole toilet smells, + sour. Or maybe pig manure, but not as sharp.
