I don't usually post stuff found on the web, but hey- if you ever thought one of your term papers was bad, you'll feel much better after reading this. (Some parts are really pushing it, but hey!)

Anyway, in light of spicing up the topic- what are some of your funny essay/term paper stories? Desperate, last minute ones? Or anything just out of the ordinary?

My worst essay on an exam was probably when my teacher knowingly said to the class as they were leaving (the day before) to "make sure to study Bach!" When we got to the exam, the essay was about Handel. The only thing I could remember was that Handel wrote The Messiah, and that he went blind in a carriage accident. So I wrote my whole essay on how going blind in a carriage accident inspired Handel to write the Messiah. I did better than my friend, though- who just drew a picture of Handel on a bicycle because she couldn't remember anything at all.

I just rewatched all thirteen episodes. I haven't seen them since I was a kid, and man...they seemed so much better before I could spell. Still, they were entertaining and nostalgic.

What did you guys think about the cartoon (now and when you were a kid).

Le Declin de L'empire American

It was...well- imagine a French-Canadian film from the 80s with no plot, that follows  bunch of middle aged  university professors as they talk about sex for two and a half hours.

Just out of curiousity, what do you think are the best philosophical movies of all time?

Mine are (yes, kick me, they're mainstream):
  • The Matrix
  • Waking Life
  • Fight Club
  • Monty Python's Anything (just cause they talk a lot about philosophy)
  • American Beauty

Also, if you wanna talk about any of the philosophy in the movies...

I find procrastination is more common with gamers (at least the ones I know). As is chronic lateness.

I'd help you, but I'm supposed to be writing an essay that's due the day after tomorrow :-/

Yes, good doctors were a huge part, but a lot of people I knew had good doctors and chemo to no avail.

What I'm saying is it's amazing that he stayed strong, and that this as well as luck must have been a huge influence on the outcome.

I know I don't post too much and you probably don't know who I am, but I've been lurking about for a few years, and I'd seen your posts...I juts didn't really know what to say.

I know you've heard it a lot, and it sounds like it's coming out of a greeting card, but it's really inspiring to know that you beat cancer...the fact that you were able to conquer something so terrible, and so strong, and the fact that you were willing to speak your thoughts honestly here, is...touching? Inspiring? To be honest, it  it makes me really happy for you, even though I don't know you, and also gives me hope. No one I know has beaten cancer. So to hear that you have really makes me feel like it's possible. Even if there isn't really a cure, and might never be, the strength of the human spirit, will (and a bit of luck) overcoming this when no medicine can is absolutely beautiful.
Congratulations (to say the least).

Wow! At first I thought you meant London, England, I was like "aww..."

But if it's London, Ontario, I'm in (for skating)! Does Via go there? Or would it have to be greyhounded? It'd be nice to put faces to names (even though I'm mostly lurking here)

Well...we don't have democrats and republicans here, but I'm a moderately spiritual, NDP (far left), city-slicking femenist,  and the male is an agnostic, right-wing, capitalist country boy. I was rooting for Obama, and he was rooting for McCain.

While soemtimes it causes conflict, it's actually more interesting this way because we both love intelligent debate.

And mummies can't be asexual- otherwise we'd have more baby mummies from mummies being all by themselves.

One guy who asked me out several times...I turned him down and then he'd leave repetetive messages on my phone, show up "accidentally" at random times, phone my frienda talk to them about me, send numerous text messages.

Another guy looked up everyone in the phonebook with the same last name as I until he found my house. And my last name is Chinese so it has like ten million people in the phonebook.

This isn't long term stalking, but the creepiest thing was when I was at frosh, and I heard someone calling my name. So I turned around to see who it was and it was someone I didn't evne know. He said he'd been browsing through facebook, came across my profile, looked through my photo albums and wanted to meet me cause he "loved" freckles (Did I mention I live in a city of millions of people, so I don't know how the hell he knew where I'd be)...so he walked with me toward the movie theatre I was going to, and I tried to be somewhat polite and make conversation, somehow it got about religion. He asked me what I believed, and then said in a judgemental tone "You seem very opinionated."
Then the next day, we were loading up on buses to go to the beach. There were possibly a thousand people there. He came and sat on some stones about 4 inches from where I was standing and just sat there and watched me without smiling or saying anything. Then when we got on the bus, he sat directly in front of me. Then he messaged me on facebook. The weird thing is...this guy's face was deadpan all the time. He never smiled. He jsut stared really seriously, and said things like "You seem very opinionated" and "I like that picture of you where ______" and honestly he just gave me the cereps.
