Y'know, the most contact I had with him was when he aired a rather negative assessment of my intelligence in the Watchmen topic, but I'd been keeping up with his progress long before then through this thread. It always sounded as though he was going to pull through eventually, but sadly that was not the case.

R.I.P, Steel. No hard feelings.

I just saw "Knowing" on sunday, and jesus christ what a ripoff.

I went in expecting crap (it's a Nick Cage movie) and was pleasantly surprised when the movie had really awesome scenes, like when the airplane comes from out of nowhere and crashes right behind Nick Cage. Pretty awesome. The effects and everything were done really well. Then the plot twist comes, and everything starts making sense, and you find out this whole time you've been buying into metaphors and imagery all very well disguised. It's a fucking christian movie. If you thought Signs was bad, this will blow your mind. THe last half hour of the movie loses all subtlety. Suddenly there are angels flying around, the garden of eden story is retold, and I shit you not, there is an actual tree of knowledge in the movie.

I really would've enjoyed this movie much more if they could've either went all in the christianity bs, or left it out. At one point I actually thought a reincarnation of Jesus might show up. Terrible movie.

I caught Knowing earlier today, and likewise I was pleasantly surprised. It was Roger Ebert's review that persuaded me to give it a shot, and measured-up against all of the other... "less positive" reviews, I was just expecting a good film.

And I totally agree with the masterful construction of the Lexington plane crash sequence. I was seriously shook-up after that. Really chilling stuff.

But I respectfully disagree with this point.

If anything the film appeared to take a somewhat neutral stance on whether Free Will or Determinism is the order of the Universe. Also, it attempted to present how such beings as Angels, and even God, could exist within the natural confines of the Universe.

What's so preachy about an alien race being able to predict the apocalypse, who then act upon this knowledge by selecting a number of Earth's children to populate another planet? I imagine that's as close to Divine Intervention as an athiest could conceive of being at all realistic or possible.

You could argue that the Tree of Knowledge was unecessary if the stance taken was indeed intended to be neutral, but its presence merely affirms the themes that have been explored throughout the film. I personally felt that the closing shot was absolutely breath-taking. The fusion of the context, the special effects, the music and Proyas' insistence on holding-on to that final frame for just long enough... expertly executed!

uggh I miss working on this game. Why did I ditch it? I think I was just busy or something. It will always be ~ in my heart ~

Because you're a knob.

Seriously, I was proper looking forward to this. There was that other game too, with the different clans and stuff (like Angels and Vampires and whatnot). This new idea sounds... perplexingly intriguing, though.

A public servant doing the public's business in the public's eye has to have a good image or he/she will not have the public's support.

But the public's support is meaningless when it's based on their approval of a public servant's image rather than his/her policies.

We could start on Barack Obama, but this issue has been debated to death.

This entire topic is entertaining... despite the fact that I have little to no idea who any of the people that are being talked about here are. I barely know anything about the chimp lady, other then that she studied chimps for a ridiculously long time.

On the other hand, if you're British, you'd more than likely know more than is healthy about Jade Goody and virtually nothing about Jane Goodall (I admit, her name doesn't ring any bells).

But how does it hinder his ability to do a good job?

The reason I said I was shocked is because people still seek validation in something so fantastically irrelevant. I'm pro-faith, but even hardcore athiests subscribe to this rubbish.

yeah because public image has no effect whatsoever on the job

...really?

especially when he's obv putting on a BAD GOOFY IMAGE. there are hundreds of 'boring' looking people that have much better policies than him.

If his office is doing a good job (which as far as I'm aware it is, which came as something of a shock to the naysayers), does it matter whether or not he parades around the City of London in a polka dot dress and a bright pink wig?

i find it hard to take him seriously, he strives off of the image he portrays and i think its wrong that someone like that should be in any sort of power, even if he does know what he is talking about.

I'm shocked that in this day and age we still measure a politician's competence by their public image.

Parasite also makes them stupid in some areas, smarter in others (for instance they no longer understand the concept of hygiene).

This is one thing I love about the game: it looks absolutely filthy. It's just a damn shame the visuals are so distracting at times. And that motion blur fucks with my psychogeography.

Breakdown of the Jade situation.

Nah, I agree with what you're saying. The money could've gone elsewhere. Even if her kids just got a couple of hundred grand to see them into adulthood, that would've been acceptable.

But as it stands the Capitalist system is completely fucked anyway (and I'm not a fan of Communism either).

Also english people are dumb, I hate em all.

This...

Nah man the english are fucking pieces of shit on the whole seriously. I hate myself and my countrymen.

... and this.

Is it really that bad down there? I mean I can understand the retarded media but, seriously?

Btw is there really houses with gardens on the roof tops?

Nah, not really. Our quality of life's pretty good. Well, that depends on where you live. The weather just tends to be a bit grim and everyone's miserable as shit (EDIT: Unless they've had their hourly cup of tea).

No one really deserves to get cancer, but god damn, why the hell do the general public owe her kids a living? I remember reading that they have donated about 10 million pounds, which is way more than what they need. Also, her husband is a criminal and will probably have access to this money. Let's not forget that Jade Goody was a hated and annoying individual on the verge of being bankrupt earlier this year. She's profited greatly from this ordeal, and I think its a bit sick that people dont demand that most or all of this money go to cancer research or some other charity

By the way, I totally agree with this. But I have an issue with the way a lot of money is spent, especially in times like these.

What has Jade Goody ever done to deserve any respect?

I would say "What has she done not to deserve any respect?", but there was that incident on Celebrity Big Brother. The respect she deserves is the respect I believe we are all entitled to when something truly awful is about to befall us. I can understand people celebrating the slow, painful death of a sadistic, remorseless serial murderer and rapist; but all Jade Goody did was talk a bit (or a lot, some might argue) of shit.

Me and Steel didn't get on too well in the 'Watchmen' topic, but I'm not sat here grinning at the thought of him undergoing all those unpleasant treatments and enduring their side-effects. I do feel for the guy despite any hard feelings.

Saracism: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=saracism an actual word.

Wasn't Y2DAZZ a member of GW once?

everyone in england loves or ABSOLUTELY HATES her.

I never really cared, to be honest. Then again I'm not a newshound so I didn't hear enough about her to develop any strong feelings either way.

ever heard of saracism
???

No. But I have heard of "Sarcasm".

I was being saracistic there, by the way :).

lol oddbutinteresting, jamie is being sarcastic because assholes like me are glad she dead. jamie is a Good Human Being, just a lil sarcastic.

Well I don't know him, do I? It's difficult to see the humour in a statement so overtly obnoxious.

you should hate jade goody because she was an incredibly stupid racist person who still somehow managed to achieve nationwide adoration

But you can't blame her for this.

And I think there's a fine line between a conscious racist and someone with a few half-baked opinions who has a habit of speaking before they think (and we're all guilty of this).

I just feel sorry for her kids. At least they're taken care of though.

finally...finally...now that this dumb bi*tch is dead i can watch reality TV again without seeing her stupid face. three cheers for cancer. three cheers. kill all the stupid people.

I would seriously throw-down my entire life's earnings just to be there to behold the look on your face if and when you were diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Have a bit of respect.

Hell after the initial village, I was never really unnerved at all.  Something RE4 also had a problem with.

Can't beat the Nemesis. Shits me up just thinking about it...

But this game is seriously giving me cranial hemorrhoids (yes, this is an actual condition). It's just way too busy. Concentrating on the surrounding environment, babysitting Sheva and navigating my inventory in real-time is too much shit for me to deal with at once. The gameplay was much better paced in RE4, and the locations weren't so detailed to the point of being a distraction.

Fab graphics, though; hs to be said. But they're just too damn pretty for a gaming experience that's this chaotic.

My mother would eat you for breakfast, little man.

You're better off trying to screw a pencil sharpener. I suggest removing the blades first, though...
