i don't get how people are still interested in mgs. or how some people are borderline obsessed with it, thinking it's the best thing in gaming. mgs1 and 2 were good, i think jungle setting didn't work with mgs gameplay at all and mgs3 was ridiculously short and even somewhat boring to play. and at that point i hope no one took the story too seriously anymore.
despite not really liking mgs3, i was still anticipating mgs4 but after playing it, i will never make the mistake of honestly believing they'll release a good metal gear game again. like someone said, mgs4 had good gameplay (or rather, it could have had good gameplay) but even that was completely ruined by the absolutely horrible pacing it had. take a game like uncharted which is basically an interactive movie and remove all the interactive parts which make it work and replace them with two minutes of gameplay followed by ten to thirty minutes of cutscenes. and that's thirty minutes of watching the most convoluted and ridiculous story in the history of gaming. and the story aside, you never get to play enough to actually get into the game, and that's a huge problem here! i'm actually often one of those people who'll tell you that gameplay (at least in the traditional sense) isn't necessarily all that important in games because games can have much more going on for them but mgs4 seriously does it all wrong. i'm dead serious when i say that i don't know a single other game with such serious issues with pacing or any other game which suffers so much because of it. that and it was such a stupid move to make it completely linear. maybe if it was done well i wouldn't have minded but it wasn't, it really wasn't. i'm usually fairly easy to entertain and i'm not nearly as critical as a lot of people here are but i'm never going to get what people see in mgs4. it's not a completely awful game but it's only saved by high production values and the short fun parts of gameplay it has but that's it.
and let's not even get started with metal gear rising. ground zeroes actually looks that it could be good but after mgs4, i'm not really expecting much. and even in the trailer it was ridiculous that first you spend 10 minutes to sneak into some facility and then you just... CALL A HELICOPTER TO PICK YOU UP. and i think it was in middle of the mission too. you can call helicopter anywhere, anytime. the fuck? and yeah, i saw the trailer for phantom pain and it actually looked interesting but we have no idea what the final game is going to be like (probably nothing like the trailer) so it's pointless to even guess at this point.
