Personal I think getting tattoos of pop culture items is a little tacky to me, because it dates you as a person, and I feel like if you define yourself through something that is pop culture or entertainment related, then you aren't really well defined as a person.   Feel free to disagree or argue against this point.

I understand where you are coming from, but I also think you are generalizing about the person. Some people may just define part of themselves through popular culture and decide that part is important enough or fun enough to be worthy of a tattoo. That has nothing to do with being a fully realized human being. If your entire existance is about pop culture sure, but getting a tattoo doesn't automaticially mean it is the only thing in the world that is important to you.

Hey there guys, these new forum settings sure are neat.

This is a topic for sharing your tattoos and for also sharing pics of cool tattoos and also for if you want to help me design my first tattoo.

I'd like something to do with Aztec/Mayan stuff or a Hamsa design I think. But I can't find anything cool online really.

Would you like to help me design one? I'd like one in the Hamsa shape, possibly with the hebrew letters for Chai in there somewhere. Here's what Chai looks like: http://www.google.ca/search?q=chai&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:%7Breferrer:source%3F%7D&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ACEW_enCA363&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=w58FUdDxGoGg0QXIoICYBQ&biw=1366&bih=667&sei=yp8FUYylNOiU0QXhkYHoCQ#um=1&hl=en&tbo=d&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:%7Breferrer:source%3F%7D&rlz=1I7ACEW_enCA363&tbm=isch&q=chai+symbol&revid=1079061455&sa=X&ei=zJ8FUZuFPOXU0QXhmID4CA&ved=0CFsQgxY&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41524429,d.d2k&fp=8121301c100bb0ac&biw=1366&bih=667

Also here's what a Hamsa is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsa

so what you waitin for suckas? talk about your tatts. do you have a detailed scene depicting cloud strife and barrett making passionate love with red x111 on your back?

Think everyone else pretty much covered what I had to say (Esiann etc). But I do find being called or hinted at as a homophobe extremely offensive. I know Dada said he doesn't actually believe I am one, but still thought I would say that because I've been called one in another similar conversation too. Not a lot on the internet offends me! But for some reason that does. Same with if someone called me a racist because both are blatantly incorrect .
No, I don't think you are. That bit about "maybe you think the gays are getting too uppity" was mostly just meant to be a joke. I do think it was insensitive of you to say what you did, though. The reason why I got mad is because I think in these situations the best thing to do is just accept whatever the wronged party said and not complain too much about it. This is just how people, like in this case Geodude, can react when they see these deeply insulting things. But I'm sorry, I shouldn't have reacted the way I did. You're right.

I just really wish that when things like this happen, people don't first look at the victim's reaction, but at the perpetrator's act. That should always come first. And it's not right to call people overly sensitive either. That's just not helpful. Of course people are sensitive to things that are as personal and offensive as this. And everybody's different, not everyone's able to cope with it as well as others.

I understand where you are coming from. Even that calling someone over-sensitive isn't particularly helpful so I apologize for that.

Clearly I don't know everything about marginalized groups because I come from a place of more privilege  I am aware of that. All I'm saying is don't assume that I hate gay people either because that is untrue.

Sometimes I truly believe you are over-sensitive and I've said that before. I'm not trying to "appropriate the discourse" and I have no ulterior motives. I just made a one off comment and that is all. They have every right to criticise my behavior if they feel the need (I never denied that.) But that doesn't mean they can jump into making assumptions about my character and call me a homophobe.

I'm glad that other people agree with me. I don't like subtle hints that I'm a homophobe or think "the gays are too uppity" which are totally irrelevant just because I think some things could be handled differently.

Maybe we should actually use the warning system for this, three strikes you're out. Not really being facetious here. It's not terribly fun seeing the snide bandwagon roll in whenever somebody steps out of line. It's probably better for the atmosphere of this place if we just handle that administratively than keep going down this road, since it IS more or less a rule of the forum now that people are actually getting banned over. I don't think it's going to create the most agreeable environment long term having unwritten rules that can get you thrown out of the community.

I mean, there is some goofy juvenile shame of having a WARNING SYSTEM, but I think people probably want to get along with everybody else, and it would be a way to make those rules clear without necessitating a fight over it, which has begun happening with some frequency. A warning would probably be enough to make people aware of how their behavior is viewed, make necessary corrections so as not to offend others.

Agree 100% and was going to suggest it myself. Especially about the snide bandwagon. It would be much more effective.

how about we actually call people out when they need to be called out, and stop making up dumb excuses to justify their behavior?

How about instead of always coming across as sarcastic assholes, we talk to each other normally? Just because we disagree doesn't mean I should have to wade through your snide tones.

Read my post. I didn't try justify it for a second. I said "some people use slurs jokingly, but that doesn't mean it is right." I then said we should explain to them properly and the most effective means of doing so. That isn't justification, in fact I'm saying a better way of educating them about their behavior so it has the best long term effect?

I really don't care too much.

Maybe the "salt world q&a" topic is so important to you that it can't possibly be polluted by one or two posts to make someone aware of the fact we've outgrown the use of slurs—any use—and that there's no exceptions or excuses. But let me be absolutely 100% clear to you right now: when someone uses slurs or any other totally unacceptable language, it's no problem to temporarily interrupt a topic to set that straight. If you don't like that, goodbye. And if you think that someone's complaint isn't helpful, just say that, but don't complain that someone's "derailing a topic" by talking about something else when you're doing exactly the same thing.

We now return to your regularly scheduled dumb Salt World forum topic.

Oh great you're being a sarcastic again and acting as if me talking about derailing the topic was the crux of my argument.

How about sending him a PM rather than derailing a topic and swearing at him? Especially since he's just come back and that doesn't create the most welcoming forum atmosphere. Many people use slurs jokingly and that doesn't mean it's right but saying "Fucking behave yourself" isn't the best way to educate someone about why it's wrong either. Most likely it will put them on the defensive and won't do anything to change their attitude. If you really want to educate someone about why it's wrong how about approaching them properly and making more of an effort than outright attacking them?

Anyway....

Yeah this is cool man, hell you should make a topic everytime you create a new video so we can discuss them.

I enjoyed the solemn yet comedic feeling of the whole thing.

Yeah i just think it should be a priority over everything else. I thought i actually wrote a longer post but I must have deleted it or something. I'm not a doofus.... you big meany, you ....    nimwit.

Also adding my vote against the like button. Totally agree it's web 2.0 bullshit, the forum isn't active enough for it and who really cares if someone "likes" your post? If you agree and it's worth noting, just write a post saying so...
