My country is going downhill badly. I am English through and through and have lived here all my life but lately I have just wanted to get out and move abroad. First of all, let's take a few examples of this pathetic law/justice system we have.

1. My friend was fined £50 (or more) for smoking at a bus stop. In England it against the law to smoke in public enclosed spaces (pubs, clubs, restaurants etc) but come on, A BUS STOP that doesn't even have a roof? And there wasn't even anyone else around?

2. Today I was at a parade and there was this guy trying to sell flags (THAT HE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR) to general public. A policewoman stopped him and asked if he had a permit. Ok that is fair enough but  she spent like HALF HOUR lecturing the poor guy! Seriously you'd think the police woman would have more important things to do, like catching real criminals.

3. In the paper there was a story about a guy who had 5 cops sent around his house for playing music too loudly. Ok maybe he shouldn't have music on too loud but 5 COPS. How the fuck does that take five cops. I mean all it takes is one cop and even then you'd think the neighbours would just knock the door and say "can you turn your music down". What the fuck.

4. Now this is the most SICKENING of all. In my local area there was this robber who got 7 years in prison for stealing a large sum of money and expensive items from somewhere. He was about 35 and in his life he has never killed anyone, beat up anyone or anything too traumatic. Meanwhile a rapist who raped a young girl of 15 only got like 2 years in jail and a rehabilitation order because the judge thought he was "mentally unstable". WHAT THE FUCK. I know who I would rather bump into in a street.

Those are just a few of a load of examples. I swear to god sometimes the majority of my country is getting stupider and stupider. Who knows, maybe that film Idiocracy was right after all.

Just so this isn't me ranting.... What about where you live? As daft as this or what? What are your laws like? How about health services? The society in which you live etc

I have been contemplating this for the last few days. I know this may sound pathetic but whatever.

Its been hard to make this topic because I have been attached to GW since I was 14 years old. I am 20 (almost 21) now and during that time my life has changed dramatically. The last time I left I stayed away for a year and a half during which time my life took many turns. Suffering the loss of my dad I turned to drink/gambling and turned into an alcoholic for which I have received therapy and I am slowly regaining stability in my life but its been hard. I spent more time partying or down the pub then at University and these events have really changed me as a person. I have tried hard to stay at GW for nostalgia reasons but its just not the same anymore. I want to put my knowledge of programming and web design/development to good use and go back to University and further my career. I want to move on (find a girl I can settle down with etc) but I feel GW is holding me back. So this time I am leaving for good and I won't be coming back. This may come as a major surprise to some people because I have only just recently started posting regularly again but I am afraid my short stay is now over.

I may still visit IRC from time to time because I have some friends there, especially Drule who has been great help with my problems over the years (thanks buddy!). A big shout goes out to the following people who are still here and have been fantastic over the years and have made GW a fun place to be one way or another; ramirez, dragonslayer, steel, jeff, chef, impeal, vaginal barrel (#1 dad), jester, strangeluv, velfarre, kaworu, miles, MIKE and many more!

Thank you GW and good luck for the future!

I recently coded an open source image uploading script and there is a demo version on my website. Feel free to check it out and use it to host images only for sizes 100kb and smaller.

Check it out here

Use this as a temporary replacement for pubaccess. Remember you can only host images.

ps I have permission to post this in General because it is something that benefits all of GW and not just a specific category.

I was browsing through the way back machine and thought it would be cool to find out how long members have been at GW for and what they feel they have learned from their experience here.

Personally I have been browsing GW ever since its existence. I didn't start posting on the forums until 2003 but I used GW for resources for my "kool final fantasy 7 remake game yeh!". I have learned a lot about programming and website development from GW over the years and I also feel I have matured a lot as an e-person. When I first started posting on the forums in 2003 I was a childish 14 year old who didn't have a clue about the INTERNETS. I have stayed around after all this time because of the community. There have been times I have left (for a year at one point) but I always find myself coming back. Members (past and present) like chef, ramirez, drule, steel, hundley, diggity dawg, drfunk, dragonslayer really help make this community what it is. It wouldn't be the same without you guys.

Edit: Or wouldn't have been the same.

What games did you used to play during your childhood? I don't mean computer games contrary to expectation others like marbles, pogs or even games you invented with your friends? I think it will be interesting to see the different games people to use play in different parts of the world.

Pogs

My favourite game during childhood. Two players, each with their own collection of pogs (discs made up of different cartoons, movies etc). Before the game, players decide whether to play 'for keeps', or not. 'For keeps' implies that the players keep the POGs that they win, together with forfeit those that have been won by other players. The players each contribute an equal number of POGs to build a stack with the pieces facing down, which will be used during the game. The players take turns throwing their slammer (in addition called a 'kini') down onto the top of the stack, causing it to spring up together with the POGs to scatter.

Personally I amassed my biggest collection in pogs than any other game. Its a big shame it pretty much died out during the late nineties. I asked my younger cousin the other day together with he has never even heard of them. :(

Marbles

This was my second favourite game. The only version I ever really played was knocking opponents marbles out of a circle.

Penny up the wall

I don't know if these following games are played in other parts of the world because I can't find much information about them on wikipedia or google.

This game can be played with as many people as desired at any one time. Each player throws a penny (a cent) against a wall from equal distance together with the winner would be the person whose penny landed closest to the wall. If two or more players landed at roughly equal distance then those players would throw again.

Mini

This game can be played by two or more people, spontaneously, when walking down a street. It starts whenever somebody spots a mini (small car) together with shouts "MINI!". Other people must react together with in addition shout mini too. The person to react last would be the loser. In some versions of the game the loser may in addition be faced with a dare by the others or be given a dead arm.

There are more contrary to expectation I will edit my post later.

Personally I prefer evening time (6am - 8pm). I get a chance to sit down and watch my television shows and eat dinner. I hate mornings because I find it ridiculously hard to get out of bed. :(

Today I started work at 5AM, doing home shopping, where I walk around a massive ASDA Walmart, constantly loading crates with shopping. On average I walk about 10+ miles every 5 hours I work. Anyway, the most simple scenario occurred that really helped cheer me up. As I was walking down an aisle, I was glancing around for a specific product when this really cute, little baby looked up at me and started giggling, laughing and kicking his little feet in the air.

So what has made you feel happy or cheer you up today?
