Now this I had to post, because I thought it was really, really interesting. Normally space stuff does not interest me terribly, but.. A hole in the universe. Come on. I can't pass that up!

Personally, I think this sounds really interesting. I mean, if it is a genuine and real hole... Where would it lead?! Very interesting to think about, I think.

Popped into my head a few minutes ago as I remembered an old GW meet topic where someone said "So-and-so is so different in person!" or something to that extent, so... I decided to find out how many GW members feel that their behavior, mannerisms, everything, varies from these internet forums to the real world.

To the members who like to joke and make fun of other members on a regular basis, do you continue these activities offline?
And to the members who usually stick to their own business and sort of go against the "GW norm" that has been established.. How do you fare in real life?

As for me, I'm completely different. I don't think it is a case of "taking on a different personality" as it is simply my own personality being a little skewed in the transition from real life to internet forums. I don't curse much in real life (despite how many times I may do so over IRC) and I am generally very relaxed, easy-going, and civil. Also, I often frown upon stupid behavior in real life when I may think it's funny stuff here at GW, especially when it comes at the expense of someone else.

How about you folks?

So I just made a topic about the Love Guru which, unfortunately, I didn't think looked like that great of a comedy. But then, I saw this..

Step Brothers Trailer

What is it about?
Brennan Huff (Will Farrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) become step brothers when their single parents marry.. But here is the kicker. Both of them are still unemployed at live at home. The two are forced to share a room as they immediately dislike each other. But, as time goes on, they grow closer until their parents force a decision upon them... GET YOURSELVES JOBS AND MOVE OUT. Hilarity ensues.

I'm a Will Farrell fan, and I love it when he and John C. Reilly are together because they mesh so well (like David Spade and Chris Farley). I thought the trailer was pretty funny and yeah, I think this is one of the comedies I might want to see this year. Should provide a few cheap laughs, I think!

So I just went to Yahoo and stumbled across the trailer for Mike Myer's new movie and, I guess, the successor to his Austin Powers character.

For those who don't know, Myers stars as a man who was abandoned in India when he was only a baby, and he was raised by gurus who named him Pitka. He returns to America to preach self-help advice when he is asked to fix a relationship between a Toronto Maple Leafs player who is having marital problems with his wife (she's seeing a player from the Los Angeles Kings).

There is an interesting cast.. Myers as Pitka, for starters. Jessica Alba is in there as some sort of manager, Justin Timberlake (ugh) is the LA Kings player, and the Maple Leafs coach is.. Verne Troyer?!

I'm not sure what to think of this movie. After I watched the trailer I was kind of unsure what to think. The movie looks like it has potential, but the trailer didn't really suck me in. I laughed a little when Verne Troyer got hit in the head with a puck and then, at the end of the trailer, dropped by Mike Myers but.. It didn't really grab me aside from those small little scenes.

My external drive was always (. Now it is (. How the hell do I fix that?

This sums it up beautifully. I plugged my iPod in earlier today to charge it, and it decided that it would be fucking hilarious to pop up as the D: drive, which is normally my external hard drive - which I turn off at night. I hadn't turned it on.

When I turned it on, I knew it obviously would not be the D: drive. It decided that it would be equally funny to show up as the G: drive. Now, here is what is pissing me off. All my music is on the external, and my iPod library reads FROM my external as D:, so... I can't listen to my music in iTunes, my media player of choice.

I've unplugged the iPod, rebooted, turned the external on and off.. It refuses to change back to D:.

I vaguely remember some sort of "change volume of selected drive" option somewhere, but I haven't the faintest idea where I saw it. Maybe it was on my shitty laptop which has Vista, I don't know. Anyway...

WHAT DO I DO?

I've been meaning to make this topic for the longest time, but it kept slipping my mind. Anyway, it just popped up again, so here we go.

We've all watched a movie where we weren't really happy with the actor choices for whatever roles. I don't know, maybe you didn't like Jack Nicholson in The Departed. Maybe you would have liked to see Al Pacino instead? Basically, what I'm asking is... Have you ever thought that the casting office could have chosen better actors or actresses for certain roles? Who would you rather see play these roles?

For me, Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. I read that Will Smith was the original choice, and I think he would've been a bit more interesting to watch. At least he's a bit less stale.

Yes. It's true (somehow)..

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/19/sesame-street-adults

Quote
Sesame Street DVD is for adults only

The Powers that be have decided that the early versions of the kids' show Sesame Street are too racy for kids of today.

The earliest episodes, bought you by the number 2 and the letter E, were installed onto DVD last week. But horror of horrors Mr Cooper, it is rated adults only.

According to the publisher, early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”

Having grown up on never-ending episodes of Sesame Street, one has to wonder what it was that was so terrible that we saw, that kids of today can't cope with.

In those days it was ok to for Cookie monster's eating disorder to go untreated, for Sally to take a stranger's hand and go to his home, for Oscar the Grouch to be denied prozac, and for blokes living together, Ernie and Bert, to engage in domestic violence.

But Executive producer Carol-Lynn Parente told the New York Times that the main reason for the censorship was nothing to do with anything we could come up with.

It was to do with a famous scene, often repeated, called Alistair Cookie and the parody “Monsterpiece Theater.” Alistair Cookie, played by Cookie Monster, had a pipe which he later ate.

Modern producers felt that modelled the wrong behaviour. It encouraged smoking and eating pipes. Initially they re-shot the scenes and later it was dropped.

Another reason was that when Snuffleupagus first appeared, he was invisble to all but Big Bird. But later producers decided it was a little creepy to have the giant canary wandering around claiming he was not hallucinating all the time.

I can't.. believe this at all. It's just so ridiculous that it is almost unbelievable. I don't recall the content in Sesame Street ever being BAD FOR KIDS, and certainly not ADULT ONLY.

I honestly don't know what to say.. all that is going through my head is just... "WHAT???"  :fogetlaugh:

The idea for this poll popped into my head after reading a reply in the PS3 topic where someone said their PS2 recently died, and I began to wonder how often consoles do die. Have any of your consoles ever died? If so, why?

It has only happened to me once, and it was about ten years ago. Something came loose in my Game Gear, and for some reason I just never had it looked at so.. yeah, that was the end of it. I had it for four or five years before it was finished.

Yesterday morning, I was sitting here on my computer doing whatever, but Firefox was running.. and then suddenly the power went out. It was out for about an hour and then came back on.

When I turned the computer back on, I was relieved to see that everything was working as it should and that I lost no progress with anything. Things were good UNTIL... I tried to download something in Firefox. It will download the file just fine, but the download window does not pop up, and when I bring it up manually it is empty. I have to sit and actually wait for the file to download without knowing its progress, and the only way I know when the files finish downloading is when the temporary file disappears (like download.tmp or something like that, Firefox users should know what I mean by the temp file).

It does not end here either... If I right click on a picture, sound file, or anything else and try to save it.. I get the prompt, I hit OK.. but the file does not save.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Firefox, but it kept all the settings from before (meaning the problem as well). Where does Firefox keep all the user settings and whatnot? If I find those, then reinstalling should do the trick, shouldn't it?

I am a bit surprised that nobody has ever posted about this game (as far as I know). I actually just found out about it this morning before work, and after reading I became slightly interested in the game. It plans on doing some pretty interesting things, and gameplay sounds very innovative.. so here we go..

What is Fury?
Half RPG, half FPS. You create a character (as far as I know) and then get to just.. PvP. Against other people. That is it.

That sounds boring.. Is that REALLY it?
Well, alright, there is a little more depth.. this is where the RPG element comes in. When you hop into the PvP arenas (GameSpot describes them as feeling a lot like Quake in design and style), you get to beat and bash everyone around you with... no, not guns. Swords, magic, ranged attacks.. This is set in a fantasy world so there are typical fantasy classes and features. By performing well in the matches (which from I understand are team based and free for all) you will get experience and other rewards.

Experience? So you level up?
Yes, you do. Fury is also looking to make the game very interesting to play through because there are talent trees for the classes which, from what I have read, are extremely customizable. This means you will be able to create your character and develop them however you want as you progress through the matches.

That's all fine and dandy, but I feel like you're not explaining this game well enough for me to feel very interested.
Yes, I suck at that. Check out what GameSpot recently said.

How does the game look?
Pretty good, actually! It isn't a technical marvel, but it looks good enough.

Warning: These images are fairly large.

What are your thoughts?
Shaping up pretty darn well, I think! In my opinion, Fury is trying to do some VERY interesting things which are either going to be very awesome or pretty lame and boring. We'll see.. I'm not overly happy with the idea of just deathmatch. I'd like to see some capture the flag/objective sort of matches, but if there aren't then that is fine too. Overall, I think this is a game to watch and I am intrigued at how it is a sort of Guild Wars/Quake hybrid. If the average press review is anywhere above 7/10 then I'll likely pick it up and give it a go.

Fury is being released October 16, which isn't very far away. Let's see if we can keep this topic alive until then.
