I want to start making some dumb electronic music. What's good music making software that isn't really limited if I actually follow through and get good at it? The ones I've heard of are fruity loops which is also a cereal I think and ableton which is probably unnecessarily complicated for a beginner. and music mucker by don miguel. where can I get some nice samples or instruments or whatever the fucking? Give me the low down. thanks.

part 1: Ok so I just had a power cut or a power surge or something and now my computer no worky. It turns on, gives a single beep (this means it passes POST right??), but I get nothing on the monitor and its little light that turns green when it's got a signal is staying resolutely orange. All fans, including the one on the video card, spin up fine. WHAT'S BROKEN TELL ME!!!

part 2: make me a "gamin PC" (on a site that delivers to the UK not that fucking newegg or whatever bullshit) sans peripherals and operating system preferably that comes to like £400 sterling. You can leave off hard drives and sound card too I don't give a shit about no 5.1 so pretty much just choose me a case, PSU, m0b0, processor, ram. Make sure it's all totally packed with megabytes. The last time I knew anything about computer hardware people said "multimedia ready" HELP.

My friend wants a laptop!!! Recommend me some good ones!!!! because I haven't looked at computer hardware in like 6 years so honestly I have no idea what you can buy

What he wants it to do is read his webcomics, pirate films and tv etc and also run some kind of music recording stuff -- please also recommend me some good recording software I can get for him. He plays like a trillion instruments it's fuckin astonishing but I think he'll mostly be recording guitar

he also said GAMES? but I think that's going to add a billion £££s to get a laptop that can play games on top of the 3 things above, correct?

Help me gamingw! :heismyfriend:

Well... none of us are getting any younger.... I think it would be fun if people posted a personal ad for themselves, there might be some perfect matches right under our noses! :fogethappy: Who knows!!

I'll start, don't be shy. The format isn't strict but please make sure you post your sexual orientation especially if you're gay.

Name: Mark

Age: 22

Looking for: girls or very feminine boys

Eye colour: brown

Eye type: gentle but piercing as a rapier

Favourite book: Hotel Dusk: 215

Favourite film: I don't watch many movies. I feel that games give a better experience, any story told as a film could be better told as a game. I'd tell you my favourite game but let's face it, YOU won't have HEARD of it.

Favourite music: Suikoden OST (celtic mix), Chrono Chross OST

Ideal first date: we'd play wii tennis for 2 hours by MY watch. After that we'd have a break for conversation -- I can't abide talking or any kind of sound while I'm gaming, any ambient noise ruins my reactions and I'd want to play my best to impress you. If the conversation was pleasurable we'd play a game of your choice from my rather extensive collection for 45 minutes before my mum would take you home

Traits I look for in a partner: Must be soft spoken and girly, breasts that cause back problems are a plus

This isn't really a video game but neither are a lot of games on the wii heh. maybe someone will be interested

wiispray is an interface to give graffiti a new virtual level surpassing tactile boundaries of the tangible world. What this meansis you can spray junk on a projector with a dumb toy without messing up anyone's walls :-D

You can read more about the project on the Blogosphere here: http://www.wiispray.com/

here's a vid:

Damn. The only suikodens I'd played before this were 1 and 2 which I liked a lot but this is awful so far (could o nly stand to play 20 mins or so)

It might be a good game later on but I probably won't find out and it's more or less the localisation team's fault. The latin font is really horrible like the first two legs of the letter m are one line, they didnt even check this? The voice acting god damn the voice acting. The main character sounds like he's coked up and the rest aren't much better. Only some scenes have the voice acting as well so it's really grating and out of place when it does start up. I mean the translation in other suikodens was comically horrible in places but at least you didn't have to hear it.

I also don't get why this game is 3d at all. The models look like dogshit especially compared to the very nicely drawn backdrops. They also look nothing like their characters in the cutscenes and portraits so what's the point. You don't even get to walk around a town like you could in fucking suikoden 1, you get a list of places to choose from. Having weird angles to go in with only a dpad makes it pretty awkward to move too and you gotta zig zag

battle system's the same as the other suikodens I've played.

here's an anime about the game in which it claims it's the deepest handheld RPG of all time

Okay so every six months or maybe less frequently I have a desire to watch anime.

If I was going to watch something that was:

a series, shorter than 24023409234 episodes,
not written by children,
not drawn in a way specifically designed to piss of any right-thinking person,
not awfully cliche-ridden (no schoolgirls-but-ninjas-on-their-lunch-break) and
clever enough to make me think at least once an episode

what would I be watching? Is there any anime like this?

thanks

So what does everyone think about all the protests surrounding the Olympics and the torch-bearing ceremony thing.

Here is a video of Konnie Huq the ex Blue Peter presenter getting mad trampled by pro-Tibet protestors.

Here is a video of someone trying to put the torch out with a fire extinguisher and then telling the camera about it.

The best part about that video is that it was posted by someone called huaqing who had this to say:

[blockquote]Stupid supporters of the Dalai clique! Shameless! No integrity! No brain to think is it? Hahaha......kena arrested by policeman! Bloody super naive lor! What an idiot man! Good to see this incident showing the world how f***ing idiotic those pro-Dalai activists are![/blockquote]

So yeah, funny shit in the streets of London but there is some serious business behind it, discuss that here (I actually know very little about it which is why this thread is made of youtube vids). Do you think politics should stay out of sport or that sport should stay out of china? gimme all you opinions.

I was looking for something to watch the other night so I filtered some torrent site by movies and IMDB'd the results for something that sounded watchable.

I found he was a quiet man which apparently came out December last year but I hadn't heard of it.

But yeah I thought this film was pretty cool. It's about this nobody office worker Bob (Christian Slater ugly betty'd up) who hates every one of his coworkers and every day imagines blowing the building up while on his lunch break. He is a nutty fuck who feels emasculated in a modern civilised society. But anyway while at the office he routinely loads his handgun ready to go on an office rampage only to back out and get taunted by his goldfishes (really part of his FRACTURED PSYCHE or w/e) when he goes home for not being able to kill "those fucking assholes."

One day when he's running through his gun-loading routine (deciding which bullets are for whom, the sixth being himself) another office worker goes on a similar rampage, shooting everyone in the office apart from Bob who was the on the floor trying to pick up his dropped suicide bullet. He then becomes a town hero by shooting the killer after a little chat with him when they discover the woman the other guy shot by the water cooler is not the office bitch they thought she was but was the nice girl Vanessa who Bob has a soft spot for.

It has a decentish if a little predictable twist at the end too which is always nice am I right m night shyamalan

So who has seen this? if you haven't go get it, it's pretty good viewin

I don't have sky 1 so I didn't get to see this when it aired but I've finished downloading it and have watched the first part.

It's pretty good! It seems to be done by the same people who (rather successfully imo) adapted Hogfather for sky 1 last christmas or whenever that was. A number of my favourite scenes and characters didn't make it into the screenplay unfortunately but it's understandable why not, the story's a relatively complicated one to bash out in an hour and a half.

No temple of belshamharoth or w/e, no tree people whatever they were, no water demon thing on the circumfence or those folks whose mechanism for flying over the ocean was hating water THAT MUCH.

It's understandable those parts are cut though considering I've read the colour of magic several times and I can't remember most of their names.

The casting is pretty good, as it was in hogfather. I always imagined rincewind as more of an old Eric Idle (who voices him in the old adventure games) but david jason is just right. Ankh morkpork looks like ankh morkpork (tower of art is too big though), all the locations are just about spot on.

Did anyone else see this? I'd like to hear what someone who's never read the book thought of it

...more like Northern Lights you cowboy fucks.

In any case, I'm a very big fan of Phillip Pullman or at least His Dark Materials (that Sally Lockheart shit was, well, shit) so I've been sort of looking forward to this for a while. I say "sort of" because it's a very, very easy one to fuck up, especially since the director had already stated that all religious references were to be removed and replaced with euphamism to make the film financially viable in the United States of Being Fucking Backward About Everything Apparently. I guess their reasoning is that the kind of nuts who care about HERESY of all things wouldn't even notice euphamism which is a little insulting to a demographic they want to grip so tightly for whatever reason.

New Line are fucking cowards basically.

Anyway, the film. One of its main strong points is the casting I'd say. Its next strong point would be the story they had to adapt in the first place. After that finding strong points gets a little tough. I'm betting the AWESOME GRAPHICS would be one for people not watching a cam version.

For people who haven't read the book: did that feel like a natural place for an ending? Certainly didn't to me. Apparently that whole section (the ending) is already filmed and they simply wanted to shit the product onto celluloid quickly because of marketing pressure or some such.

I think I found the film okay just because of how much I like the books. I'm pretty sure anyone seeing this stuff for the first time would just find it terrible. I AM looking foward to The Subtle Knife (will we be lucky if we get this title lol (I don't actually care about the name despite my first line)), especially because then I'll get the ending to the movie I just watched in the first five minutes.
