Hey guys and gals,

My band, Feels Like Autumn just finished recording our first EP, which will be released next month. In the meantime we've made our single "Not Alright" available on Facebook, Soundcloud, Last.fm, etc and so on.

I'd love to get some feedback from you guys, maybe even snag a few new Facebook fans, so...

Skarik, that looks incredible! Are those all in game screens or mock ups?

So I'm honestly really curious why you are baiting people to click an image of a fake Youtube video just so people will watch your 2 second sped up video which shows almost nothing about your project.

I was fairly interested in your game before this (I lurk, a lot), but now I'm quite turned off by what you did with that video.
Soerry about that, Dust. Youtube uber failed on me, the video got stuck at 92% done processing and never went farther. I tried like 6 more ties, finally got one to upload! Here it is.

Dicko - I'm not really sure what to think of your screenshots, but it's very original, so thumbs up there ;-)

EDIT: Removed bugged youtube video.

You said this was going on the iPhone and Android, right?  Maybe it looks different on the actual device but aren't the controls and everything else going to be way too small?  It'd probably be fine on iPad but the joystick and everything else seem like they're taking up a very small portion of the screen.
You know, I think you're right. I just threw a screenshot on my phone as a kind of "live mockup"... The battle controls and everything seem alright, but the joystick and the confirm/cancel buttons need to be a little bigger.

SlimeQuest: the dragon is out
What is it?
Well, it's a Free-Movement Tactical RPG being developed for Android and iPhone. I might do a PC release, too, but I'm not sure.

What's so special about it?
First of all it will be (as it stands right now) the first Android RPG with Commercial level touch screen support (and I think the first iPhone one, too, but don't quote me on that). What this means is, no more wasted time and accidental touches trying to hit some kind of tiny button out in the middle of the screen, and no more using an onscreen directional pad to move up and down in your item list.Touch an item, you're good to go. When you get close to an NPC, a talk bubble appears above them. Touch it to start the conversation. When you get close to a hidden treasure, a question mark appears above it, touch it. Plus, an 360 degree PRESSURE SENSITIVE virtual joystick (Yes, and this part is already done so I'm not just spewing BS here).

The second thing about it is that the gameplay is semi-non-linear. As part of leveling your character you can increase your stats, like Strength (Melee/short range and HP), Agility (Long range attack and movement distance) - but you can also increase Wisdom (Light Magic and MP) and Intelligence (Dark Magic and MP). This is where it gets special, because increasing these traits changes your alignment, giving you "Honorable" and "Chaotic" characters. If you're a Chaotic character and you hit an enemy from the BACK you get a chaotic experience bonus, if you're an Honorable character and you hit someone in the FRONT you get an honorable experience bonus. The opposite also applies, ie if you're honorable and you hit someone in the BACK, you get a chaotic experience bonus, which actually takes AWAY a large portion of your experience.

Finally, each battle has Main Objectives, and bonus objectives - and completing bonus objectives grants you bonus experience, but the main objectives is not always to defeat the enemy.. You may have a main objective to a.) distract enemy soldiers and pull them away from their home, so you can b.) sneak a character around the back and steal their battle plans, and finally c.) escape with the battle plans. Now keep in mind the alignment - stealing is a BAD thing, so you'll want to do it with a Chaotic character to get a chaotic experience bonus. You can still do it with an Honorable character, but you'll lose exp. Also, in the above case, the bonus objective would be to defeat the enemy soldiers.

OK, OK, I get it. So whats the story?
It's a quirky, brow-raising and sometimes a little serious RPG that satirically pokes fun of the traditional (cultist) RPG traditions.
And... I don't want to give too much of the story away just yet, but here goes:

You are Blue, a young slime heading out to complete his final exam at Slime School.
But a cave-in separates you from your little sister. You find your way out of the cave only to find that your sister has been found... and sold to a traveling merchant who is going to make JELLY out of her! You set off, tracking the merchant in hopes of saving your sister, along the way being continuously attacked and harassed by religious nutcases, each claiming  to be some prophetical "Hero" out to save the world.
You meet allies as you become more and more engulfed in a hierarchy of corruption, and along you begin to wonder how slimes ever got such a bad rep.

So is this just a concept? How much of it is done?
2/7/2011 - Well, the battle system is mostly finished, putting the finishing touches on the enemy AI, and working to leave open a hook for special events in battle - like bosses talking or the map changing, etc. The entirety of the touch screen interface is done, the movement and mapping system is done, dialogue system is done but needs some tweaks to become more versatile (just added the ability to have a dialogue message give you an item :-D), several aesthetic systems are done (like the system that shows the map name when you first enter it, or the one that shows a notification at the top when you get an item).
Haven't even begun working on the game menu system yet, thats my next task after the AI and battle events hook.

Special Thanks
The Breeze Revolution team, Green Raven and RPG RPG Revolution for the breeze tiles I'm using.

Screenshots! (In order from newest to oldest)
Keep in mind, this is in DEVELOPMENT, so as the game is fleshed out and work continues, the screenshots may not all match, just bear in mind the screens are in order from newest to oldest.

Thoughts?
I'd love some feedback, opinions, questions, or anyone to stop in and give me a thumbs up to keep working on the project.

Thanks!

If you still don't remember me, you probably never knew me... It's been awhile :-P Oh and whats up with GamingW? How long has the orum been on Salt? What's SaltW?)

VERY early screenshots of my new project - a Free-Roaming, alignment driven Tactical RPG for Android and iPhone, full touch screen support, yadda yadda yadda. (Tilesets courtesy of the Breeze team and RPG RPG Revolution)

(PS, these are NOT concept images, they're real screenshots of the running game)

(This image was updated, I got a better shot with the full message)

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm looking to hire (for actual money, most likely to be paid via paypal) a web designer to help with a template design.

This job is going to be graphic intensive, so I'm looking for someone with very good and creative graphic skills who can work quickly and doesn't mind doing modifications to the work to make sure it looks good and I'm happy with it. It is a standard template, so I don't need any hosting, or code, just a straight photoshop document of a one-page design once its all said and done.

Due to the nature of the site and the template design, someone with a wide range of design is needed, including sprite, logo and in-game art design. Basically, we want a web designer that has experience in graphic design for video games.

I cannot stress how graphic-intensive this design is and how much creativity you will need to have to pull it off, please be prepared for this if you reply. There's no short leash here, so you'll have a good amount of free reign to make it how you want, as long as it looks GOOD.

Please reply with a BASIC price quote so my organization can get an idea of where you'd like to go with this, and at least one example of a design you've done before.

This is a job from an NPO located in the US, but it is not a contract, salary or hourly position. We will be BUYING the design and all rights to it from you.

Thanks!

Looks cute, T. I think you should move the bottom part of the angel's body closer into the main character set, cause at a glance it looks like the angel is kinda following the guy, not on his back.

Mini Update (CLICK >HERE< FOR THE DEVLOG)
Had a couple really good comments about my last post's video. I decided to try my hand at writing a sine-wave drawing function to replace the "stretchy" effect that I previously had over the text. I also changed the menu-in/out animation to a fade in/out using alpha's. Tell me what you think:

Hey, Killer Wolf, I like the way this looks, its oddly reminiscent of "Streets of Rage". What style of game is this?

If someone has any better tile for the balcony that'd be swell.
Why not lay a fence or wall tile over the top?
EDIT: You could also make like, a shadowed tower shape to place over the entire screen, partially transparent, like you're looking down from above, inside the tower or something.

Jelly Physics Engine!

This is a quick video demo of the jelly physics engine I made for my project, Mr. Blue's MisAdventures. Every single animation for Mr. Blue was made in real time using my Jelly Physics engine, not a single animation was made, saved or used but a single static image of Mr. Blue.

Wait. C# Windows GUI or XNA? It makes a different. Windows GUI is freakin' stupid to work with for actual games. But yea that's looking really good, a lot of polish.
C# Visual Studio (Windows GUI)... and yeah, I know. But it does work, however inconveniently. I actually almost made this in Torque, then got curious about OGRE, but ended up dropping that because it was too bloated for the simple things I needed, and finally just ended up downloading C# VS Express. (Don't get me wrong, I like OGRE, just not for this project)

AlchemyX: I like the Mario feel to it. But the graphics definitely lack consistency. Those green platforms are completely flat and 2D. The character, on the other hand, is somewhat 3D. The shading of the tree and clouds doesn't match that of the platforms. And those grasses are just ugly. The whole thing would look a lot better with a few adjustments.
I'm a SHITTY artist :-) I can try to make stuff look better, but I can't make animations, sprites, or anything else to save my life, so I figured I'd go with an abstract and aesthetically eclectic style instead. At least I can do that much.

1st ever screenshot!

Mr. Blue's MisAdventures

This is a Semi-Platformer RPG. Most dungeons are platform-esque in view... but the battles work out like a combination of free moving tactical and turn based battles. Towns and other maps are typical overhead RPG view, but with a degree based movement system (rather than pixel or tile based), allowing full 360 degree movement.

I've written the engine in C#, using DirectX.
