I'm really kind of obsessed with Sun Kil Moon's new album. It's basically a death/middle age concept album, performed in a really cutting and matter of fact kind of way.

While we're on a Mark Kozelek kick, the Red House Painters were pretty rad.

I've also been getting kind of into The Smith's lately. I'm still not huge on Morrissey's voice or... overall personality, but damn were they a tight band.

I've been meaning to check out Yuck's second album. Everything I've heard from it was pretty good and a lot better than whatever their previous singer's new band is called.

If anyone wants it, here's the full soundtrack I did for Protocol Assault. It has 3 tracks not used in the demo and might give some more insight to what evildemoncreature/casualcatharsis had planned. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pkzcsh91u9izv4r/Game%20Music.rar

I haven't gotten through all the games yet but I'll get my reviews up by the end of the week, but so far I'm pretty impressed.

I'm not sure if EvilDemonCreature is aware the site is back up, but if he doesn't submit anything I'll at least upload my soundtrack I made for him.

I played through Arkham Origins. It's easily the weakest of the three, but still playable and with a decent enough story (though it gets kind of stupidly convoluted at times.) I can't really think of a single innovation or improvement over Arkham City. The open world Gotham is pretty much void of anything to do except beating thugs (who just kind of stand around doing nothing) to a pulp. The side quests are pretty much exclusively fetch quests and I think the stealth missions are much more poorly designed and infrequent than the other two. It kind of feels more like a total conversion mod of Arkham City than an actual new entry into the series.

The voice acting is also pretty dull. Batman and the Joker's voice in this game is  like hearing two of your friends doing their Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill impressions. The soundtrack was also a lot more of a rip-off of the Hans Zimmer scores than the other two, and I've always found Zimmer's Batman music to be really dull and unimaginative. I'm kind of surprised that there weren't any Batman Returns homages considering they were both set on Christmas. Maybe it's just that I have a soft spot for the Burton Batman movies.

But basically it's a game that's pretending to be two better games with voice actors pretending to be better voice actors and music pretending to be other music.

I hope the extra couple of days give EvilDemonCreature enough time, otherwise I'll post the songs anyway at cutoff. I might even fix some up or make another with the spare time, what the hell.

I haven't really posted anything yet, but I've been busy making tunes for EvilDemonCreature's game. Expect some blood-pumping jams, Salt World.

I just finished Slaughterhouse Five last night. It's a super amazing book and you should totally read it if you haven't already. It's so amazing that a dude could write a book that deals so heavily with a man's supposed abduction by aliens and have that actually strengthen his narrative about the Dresden bombings. I love how humorous and weird it is without taking any of the power away from the subject matter. I need to read a lot more Vonnegut now.

Only reason I haven't responded till yet is because I was far too busy taking that as "we're a team, Puppet Master."

The intent was very clearly presented, it would feel too redundant to make exactly how I took that response explicit. It's not explicit that teams are restricted to pairs though, but things seem to be heading that general direction as it stands.
Ok, I was just accepting your request to work with me in that response. I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at with the last part, but I look forward to working with you and anyone else if you want to include more people.

I'll take that as a "we're a team," EvilDemonCreature.

Consider me in.

I'd rather be able to focus of music but if I need to do more then SO BE IT. If anyone wants me on their team let me know. Here's a selection of my "portfolio" http://soundcloud.com/putridmoldyman

These are a few games I've played mostly because of GOG sales.

Gemini Rue: I liked this one a lot. The plot twist was pretty well constructed. The puzzles were pretty easy but there were some really greatly designed ones. It gets an A.

The Witcher: I got it free from a GOG promo. Basically I can't get myself to like this game. It kind of seems like they put the worst elements of Fable and Neverwinter Nights together to make a rather bland experience. Also, I'm cool with the idea of being able to have sex in an open world game, but the way they present it (ridiculous cutscenes with hardcore porno sounds and then receiving a trading card for each lady) was pretty gross and made me feel kind of put off. I also just really don't care about Geralt at all.

The Cat Lady: This is a pretty fucking great game. Sure, it has its plot holes and at times it plays more like an interactive cutscene than a game, but the art direction is great, I genuinely liked the main characters, and the themes are pretty heavy and thought provoking. I recommend it.

Wasteland: I haven't gotten too far in this yet, but I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I want to keep playing it. I'm a huge Fallout freak and I play through at least one of them annually, but while I can see this game's influence it really hasn't aged well. The mechanics are pretty ahead of its time, but the execution is kind of shitty. Also, the scenario design is just kind of weird (Find hidden cave, kill rabid dog, get attacked by savage children which causes the river to dry up and The Red Ryder to come and attack you for some reason.) I'll mess around with it a little more, but I probably won't play through it all the way.

Shit dude, sorry about your loss, Warped.

I saw My Bloody Valentine live last night. It was really great. They played about half of both Loveless and their new album as well as some choice cuts of their older material. My one gripe was that the venue I was at did not have a sound system that could handle mbv. They tried to fix the sound about halfway though, but kind of fucked it up more to the point where the microphones were picking up more bleed from the amps than vocals Bilinda wasn't very audible at all towards the end.Still, it was a really great show and it was just as loud as I had been promised.

Also, the opener had a psychedelic light show being projected behind them, but then they got an error message on top of it saying their computer's battery power was low. A roadie rushed to fix it, but about halfway through the next song the video closed out and they were playing in front of a giant view sonic logo for a minute before they noticed that. The singer went to fix it by shutting the laptop, which of course did nothing, and finally the roadie came and unplugged the thing. I felt bad laughing at them for that, because I've played concerts where shit like that goes wrong, but it was just really a masterpiece of technical difficulties.

So far Team Tonka Truck has some pretty gnarly chipsets, a pretty solid soundtrack, and some tubular ideas. We will start RPG Makering soonishly.

Team Jamie/Earl/Puppet Master has decided to mix horse names to form Downtown Ghost: Floating Alone on Zebulon Road. Mostly we have like 4 and a half music tracks done and some foundational gameplay ideas as well as thematic and aesthetic concept stuff done. I missed out on an IRC chat so they probably have more information than I do.

I'd like to do music for whoever. I can also do some sprite art if need be. If no one wants to team up I guess I will get the chance to show off my mediocre RPG Maker skills.

Hahaha. I had no idea it was a Salt Worlder that was making it, but I guess it makes sense. It looks really cool man, I look forward to it.

I stumbled upon a kickstarter for this game. Apparently it is an open world adventure game that takes place in a city built around a giant octopus.

The kickstarter is at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ghostinabottle/octopus-city-blues and it has some pretty neat concept art.

I also agree with the suggested themes and motifs. A little guidance can be helpful. Halloween would be a really fun theme too.
