Yeah man, some people make games and SELL them too!

As a side note, anyone bought any of the Rpgmaker games being sold on Steam? I've bought all of them, just need to find time to play them haha.

Absolutely not. Most of them are extremely generic JRPG garbage. I'm amazed anyone buys them. A lot of them are actually using 100% default RTP graphics and charging $10-$20 for a game. I remember a couple games that were posted on here many years ago where the creators said they intended to charge for them and most people shot them down. Back then trying to sell your RPG Maker game was heresy, even if you were using original assets.

Honestly I think the direction the RPG Maker scene has gone these days is downright disgusting, or maybe I'm just clinging to the old ways too much. Pretty much everyone using RPG Maker VX Ace is using default RTP all the time. I can't stand the way that RTP looks with the tiny characters and blocky chipsets. The program itself costs 70 fucking US dollars which is pretty outrageous. Not to mention the troves of downloadable music and graphics, some of them costing $30. Every modern day RPG Maker game I've seen looks exactly the same and the rampant use of the disgusting RTP is killing creativity and originality.

I always hated this place, and all of you.

Nah, just kidding. But seriously though. Whose idea was it to change the name of the forum from Gaming World to Salt World? Is this some kind of inside joke?

Also remember when people used to make games and shit here? Good times man, good times.

SOPA has destroyed half of the RPG Maker download links on the Internet, and half of my teenage years with it.

Fuck.

This is fantastic, and a technical masterpiece as far as RPG Maker goes. Good shit, good shit.

The majority of the links in this thread are all dead, and I can't find any of the games anywhere else online. A lot of these are probably lost forever now :(.

Remember all the game dev contests we had in G&D?

I remember a week after I joined GW on my old account, way before the forum pruning, I started a contest. It was literally just a poll deciding which RPG Maker game in-progress looked the most promising. I remember drawing up a bracket and everything. There were probably 20 people involved. Good times :)

edit: also where's Mr.Y these days

1. Some of my favorites you should check out are Desert Nightmare (horror Stephen King style game), Grave Spirit (very atmospheric), Hero's Realm (classic RPG style game), and Legend of the Philosopher's Stone. Those are the more recent Rm2k3 games. Of course you've got the old classics, my top few being The Way, Kindred Saga, and Legion Saga 1-3.

2. Anywhere really. If you want to make a game come up with an idea, pick an engine, then figure out what you want to put in the game.

3. If you need RMVX resources try rpgrevolution.com. They're the largest active VX community out there.

4. Gaming World isn't exactly the hot spot for VX or XP. Mostly you'll find people using Rm2k3 or making their own stuff here. That's still not saying much because GW is pretty much dead compared to what it used to be a few years back. rpgmaker.net is a relatively active place which is mainly Rm2k3. It's not that we shun VX or any of the new engines (like GamingGroundZero does). I just like Rm2k/3 a lot better because you could say I grew up with it I suppose. I'm sure it's the same way for everybody else here.

It's not like it matters in the end. Probably 10 people in total will download it, 7 will play it, and maybe 2 will finish it.

Here's how I see it. Borderlands was a damn good game when it first came out and EVERYONE was talking about it. But the hype dies down and people start to realize it was never all that fantastic. The story is absolute shit, and when you get into co-op with all your friends no one pays attention to the story at all. I don't feel like reading all the quests. I just mash buttons, accept random quests, and follow the waypoints.

The gameplay and replay value of it all is still great of course. It gets pretty boring after awhile having to go back and forth between locations and all the driving you have to do toward the middle of the game. But other than that it's good.

I've always used ripped graphics or RTP (i love me some rtp) because I simply can't make my own graphics. I'm not an artist and don't want to be. It really is that simple. Ripped graphics can be used extremely well, or very badly. It just depends on what you do with them. Using an ugly mesh of different ripped graphics from 20 different SNES RPGs and throwing in Chrono Trigger sprites with FF4 sprites completely destroys a game (PHYLOMORTIS COUGH PCGFGJG).

What exactly is your trouble with the FAFSA? It's actually pretty simple as long as you have all the documents you need on hand.

1950 is a really good score. You ought to take the ACT too. It's really the most popular and most practical now. Some schools don't even care about the SAT anymore.

So... basically, our forum will be the main site? As in typing gamingw.net will take me to the front of the forums. ...Err...

If it must be done... but I think it would be so much better to have a standard main site like GW 5. That's what attracts people to the forums and broadens the community.

Ugh, Phylomortis was the worst piece of shit ever uploaded to GW.
It... actually, really really was. A mesh of ugly horribly ripped graphics from 25 different games, dialog using huge words that made NO sense just so RPG Advocate would look smart, a badly fucked up battle system which killed you within 5 seconds and made you restart at the beginning of the game, etc.

RPG Advocate was an enormous douche too. He tried a shitty sequel in RMXP, still using ugly as fuck ripped SNES graphics that were stretched to fit RMXP's bigger resolution. When everybody told him it actually looked pretty bad, he flipped out and told us all that we were wrong because he was a professional and knew what he was doing. And also because he translated Rm2k3, which must have been phenomenally hard with an almost identical RPG Maker 2000 already translated as a guide, as well as Babelfish.

Sailing is just the key we need to get GW active again! Make the article!
