Joking aside, it sort of makes sense for people to start peeling off now. They probably found gamingw and stuck around for a specific set of reasons. Even when everything was stagnant and broken, they still had the basic shell of what they showed up for. Now that things are starting to happen and there seems to be an actual direction (or directions) again, some people are bound to realize that they're holding on to something that just doesn't exist anymore. Also, it is easier to leave while everything is still foreign. There's no sense of attachment.

Still, it wouldn't surprise me to see some of the people who leave come back a couple months from now just to see what's up with the site. There could be some really good stuff going on that will pull them back into the fold.
This probably. I've been gone for the last year or so. But this seems like the perfect opportunity to break "for good". GW had some good times and some good memories. Of course I'm still here writing this so... I don't know what to make of that. If only I would have had to re-register. But I didn't. So damn. This means I'll basically still be around visiting once a month to notice that nothing has happened.

I would most likely tune in. And depending on what kind of stuff there'd and how excited I'd be about it's entirely possible I could contribute in some very small way. I could re-enact cutscenes from games or something. Of course I'm not much on GW anymore. Though I guess something like this could draw me back if it was awesome enough 8^)

I have some pretty fond memories. Unfortunately I haven't really kept too many of them. (and those I have kept are on a different computer, such as:
DragonSlayer> im a barbie girl, in rpg world
DragonSlayer> its fantastic dildo isnt plastic
that one I just remember. Though probably incorrectly)

There would probably be some traces in my pubaccess but I don't know how to get to that one anymore. I remember a summer in the mid 00s, there was a game contest and there was GWRadio and there was all kinds of cool stuff going on. Perhaps even the first Troubadours came out around that time. There was so much good shit. And there was also some game designing going on and I was sort of part of both worlds at that time. Discussing making games and listening to what the community brought on.

But I don't have any quotes. Just a warm fuzzy feeling from how great an internet community can be some times.

The last time I looked at this topic everything seemed good. And I saw Steel on IRC and on the forums a lot and I thought it was all over.

Then now this morning I saw this.

I was not close with Steel. I was more of the kind of person that looked from the sidelines. But he was behind some of the greater community efforts around here.

Goddamn man, writing this I tear up and I didn't even know the guy half as well as most of you people... Goddamn...

Goddamn.

Is it me or the less Echo is involved the better the story is.
This is very true. There's just something inherently unbelievable about her. I guess the fact is that she's a horrible actress. Nearly all others in the show are pretty damn good though. So it sort of sucks that the worst one has to be the main character.

All this hate for Big Bang Theory. I mean sure it isn't the greatest thing out there but it's still pretty funny and does have a fairly unique character in Sheldon. Although I guess he's just the extreme version of the quirky "say-what-you-think" character. And with the twist that instead of being incredibly stupid with moments of clarity he's incredibly smart with moments of clarity. What's not to like? I guess it just hits too close to home...

That said I hope there aren't too many more seasons because comedy tends to get bogged down once there's too many of them. (Just look at The Office. That show needs to end, though preferably not by cancellation.)

I tend to take the classic stereotype needed and add a personality quirk or two. (Healer. Also collects stamps. And is afraid of cats.) Voila! Role filled!

Of course if the role is going to be more fleshed out you'll need a few more quirks but for a quickie that tends to be enough. Have the stereotype and add something small that makes him/her stand out a bit.

I watch a couple of things.

Big Bang Theory
Gossip Girl
Heroes
Being Erica
The Office
Community
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Glee
Dollhouse

And when they happen again I'll watch Lost, True Blood, Breaking Bad, Ashes to Ashes and The IT Crowd.

There's probably something I've forgotten.

Depends on the scope of a game. If a game's storyline involves trade or economics then it makes sense for the game to have an "economics minigame" in it. Look at something like Pirates! where you can run around with your goods trying to find where you can buy it cheap and sell it expensive.

The whole trading minigame thingie is a popular thing in many different games. For example in that GTA DS game there's the drug-trade game. And many other games have those prices jumping up and down and you sell all that good shit you found.

But then again. In a traditional jRPG where progression is linear and you never really have any reason to backtrack through the world a system like this is just stupid. So yeah it's not something you can tack onto anything it has to have its place.

When the whole RP comes up I tend to go to the Choice & Consequence thing. Proper computer roleplaying is about making choices and those choices having a consequence. (and I mean proper choices and consequences. Not just "kicking will give x amount of damage and punching will give y amount of damage what do I choose?)

The DS and Wii are the curse of us lefties :(
I agree with this.

The d-pad and buttons are not interchangeable on the DS because they have a very different feel to them. And on the Wii I've been playing my whole life moving things with my left hand. Now I have to move things with my right... (If I want to aim with my aiming arm)

I tend to use mouse+IJKL. What I hate most is when games have hard-coded help messages "press <button> to do <thing>" when I just reconfigured all the buttons and that no longer applies. Fortunately no good games tend to do this. I think... When no mouse is involved I really have very little preference in what to use. (In racing games I like to use the arrow buttons for example, and using the left hand for handbrake and occasionally shifting gears)

strategy(What are the best strategy games out too btw?)
The Total War series beats out nearly all the competition in my opinion.

Also go east when looking for games. I've noticed that all the good PC games come from the other side of the old Iron Curtain.

ArmaII, STALKER, King's Bounty and Men of War are those that are fairly recent.

I have a couple of accents I tend to play around with occasionally. They're probably not hidden though, but they tend to come in a more mish-mash when I'm tired or drunk and talkative. One is the West Uusimaa local dialect with a lot of repetition and fast talk (my standard accent is West Uusimaa without the repetition and fast talk). Another winner tend to be the Ostrobothnia accent which is heavily faked since it's a mishmash of different Ostrobthnia accents but is usually a bit slower and with a completely different mode of speech. When combining the two it becomes strangeness.

In English I do tend to go toward the hard English when I've warmed up my English skills (first couple of words are usually standard "Bad English from the Nordic Countries"). Always dropping the "th" sounds for a strong "t" (so Third always becomes Turd) as well as strong Rs (so Third not only becomes Turd but TuRRRRd). And after watching som TV I've come to love the strong G in ng (I don't know what English accent it is that does it but I love it. So Boring becomes BorinGG. Or actually BoRRinGG).

And for all the words I don't know how to pronounce I just do with the old Russian accent. Unfortunately I don't speak nearly as much English as I should since if nothing else it's probably jolly good to listen to.

Animal Farm was an awesome book. I think I still have a copy of that laying around somewhere that I forgot to give back to my school during junior high.
I'm playing a sheep in a stage version of that book at the moment. Everyone come watch.

I probably have opinions about what's happening too but I doubt I'll voice them.

Am I wrong? Is there a modern Jagged Alliance clone?
I think Silent Storm is the most modern game (2003, so not too modern)  with similarities. Fallut Tactics (2001) also did some things JA2 did, though I guess not as well.

I wish the genre was bigger though. It's such a starved genre you'll play almost anything (Soldiers at War, Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate)
