they released a roguelike

I guess the assets aren't made by them though? That kinda sucks

Rpgmaker.net had an argument against AI versus ripping art from commercial games before it got shut down. I think what they said of it’s different stealing from 1000 small artists versus ripping graphics from a commercial game.

To me, I think they’re both not great and I’d rather you edit the RTP or make your own stick figures on sticky notes or paint just because it’s something that you made yourself. It’s about the creative spirit of it. Not to say that games that use AI art or rips don’t have a level of creativity to them. I think there’s just too many problems with AI when it comes to art that it doesn’t really feel ethical. Not sure if it’s the same issue with music, but honestly I’m not really that well informed on AI when it comes to creating music.

AI when making music basically just samples all of Soundcloud or all of Youtube for music sources, yeah. Although there is also generative music which is using algorithms to generate MIDI which I think is a little more ethical especially if you're making your own algorithms. You also probably will synthesize/mix your music by hand even if the sequences are determined for you. But yeah the AI music generators basically is like you type in 'make me sound like [band] or [genre]' and if it's a particular musician it sounds like a pretty bad imitation of them

I was using an AI sound effect generator for generating original breakbeats because in essence using breakbeats is stealing anyway, but I think I got all the mileage I could out of it after one LP anyway so I stopped. It's more satisfying synthesizing your own drums even if it's just like 'noise + sine wave', or you could always sample yourself hitting random objects even if you don't own a drum set irl. I got away from sampling drum machines too because it felt cheap and I didn't own any in real life except for a Yamaha DD-5 which I just recorded at a very slow tempo and sampled the individual hits in a DAW anyway, since I don't really know how to use hardware anyway and this was a drum pad rather than a sequencer, except for playing some preprogrammed loops

the sound generation site also had a thing where you could load in your own sounds/songs and get a 30 second clip of a variation on it. I tried it on my own track and it kept wanting to add guitars to it, it was annoying

I know everybody is sick of AI image/music creation but would you guys say in the 2000s, the 10000th RPG Maker user stealing the Rudra tile/charasets and the like was similarly disparaged by the community? Or just reliance on RTP, not even ripping or searching for SNES game assets?

And in the music world, I remember every other electronic album in the 90s had some kind of fractal art or cg and I think people got sick of it too (which is my only concession these days, to use fractal art because I not good at drawing, plus I think it fits the music)

like I remember especially the asset stealing from games made me cringe in a similar way to AI now, but then again sometimes people's original graphics made me cringe too, including my own, so lol

I tried Super Monkey Ball Jr. for the GBA because it's the only one I can emulate (I think), but the controls are so bad (because obviously there are no analog sticks) and it feels like one level has an impossible jump. Even with savestates I can't do it

I guess there's some games in the series for the PS2 but not sure if I'd want to get it

I don’t know who all browses but never signs in, or who still posts here and would want to partake. But I think it would be cool to do one more troubadour album. What do you think?

I'd be game as long as I can still make weird electronic

Waking up early to get some time in to do stuff is harsh. Kept falling asleep instead of actually doing anything.
Trying to wake up at 3am and go to sleep a bit earlier but it’s hard lol

yeah at a certain point I'll be reading and then I just nod off in the middle of a page and nothing actually registers

I had to get my blood drawn yesterday and I couldn't even have coffee (fasting) so I was just kind of hanging around until the appointment trying to do the things I wanted to do as best as I could, like I was mastering some tracks. I was worried I'd cut myself shaving too

seems like a good bunch of music there too, I don't think I was up late enough at night to see it when it was on the air unfortunately.

I found this too, apparently Chillout Zone and Party Zone still run in Europe in HD (kind of)

That’s scary , thankfully I don’t really use PayPal at the moment but if I do again I’ll keep that in mind.

yeah not sure if it's only given to customers or something, but in that case the payments I receive from Bandcamp might count, not sure if Bandcamp is a mediator or not

apparently Paypal gives identifiable information to your customers like address etc. unless you check off "Hide From Recipients" for everything

hey, if anybody has the version of Frog World Sessions that I had uploaded to leafo.net a while back, that'd be nice, doesn't matter if it's mp3. There were a few tracks missing from the Bandcamp release still that I never found (at least one called konacof1). Also if someone downloaded ZODNAS before I ended up deleting some tracks, if you could send that version of it (I think there were six tracks in the original, one was called LANDR Skynet or something)

Edit: sometimes I get lucky searching Soulseek for my own albums (found an unused track from Mobb Beep RIP Gentleman's Edition) but no hits so far for ZODNAS except an unrelated track (ZODNAS is SANDOZ backwards)

listening to the Mu-Ziq discography that I never downloaded/purchased before. There's a few things missing from his Bandcamp though like Royal Astronomy which I'm guessing is because of issues with the label it was released on. Which is strange because he did a Lunatic Harness 25th Anniversary Edition. Also that album he did where he remixed that band and they barely resembled the originals. I also never gave Bilious Paths a good listen so going to get that soon. I did get Somerset Avenue Tracks which was the last of his archival/lost albums I didn't have (I think) It was pretty decent

MSX is great. Most people are unfamiliar with it because of the fact that it was almost totally exclusive to Japan. It is fun to collect for but also very pricey, it's one of those consoles where you might have to buy directly from Japanese sellers if you want decent prices.

I want to learn how to program for MSX some day, but it requires me to learn Basic.

I learned enough 6502 assembly to make a little demo on the NES and I'm not that great at programming, so you might be able to do something. I never learned to do scrolling though lol

i wonder if I can find a decent mp3 player that supports FLAC.
I'm still on Winamp after all these years.

I think he means a device. But if he means software, Foobar2000 is good.

MP3/music players kind of went out of fashion after phones got enough storage and now all I see are random Chinese devices and the Sony Walkman which is expensive but plays high quality files

if you had to choose one way to listen to music, which format would you pick? (tape, streaming, cd, MP3, etc.)

i'm thinking about getting into collecting music but cannot decide which media format is worth it.
Streaming is obviously the most convenient one, but I would like to actually own music. And I feel that MP3 is kind of cheating even if they don't have DRM locking them down.

I like that tapes are portable, but I can't remember if the sound quality is poor because it's been so long since I've listened to a tape.
CDs are nice but they are a pain to lug around if you're walking somewhere and from what I remember they tend to skip when listening on a portable player.
vinyl seems fun but not really portable.

maybe I should just get an mp3 player.

i dig the style of it, will have to give it a try eventually.

i've been gaming mostly on my steam deck these days and kind of wish that I bought one sooner because it's a super convenient little device.

yeah unfortunately the game kind of doesn't end but there are unfinished parts as the game goes on, so you don't really know when to stop playing. But basically until you get the ship that can sail over deep water, the game is intact.

It's a little annoying though how some areas have virtually no enemies that drop gold, while others practically all the enemies do, like in the pyramid. Basically any humanoid enemy that you can imagine carrying gold, does, while the more animal-like enemies don't, just give you experience

I download FLACs from Bandcamp, but that's because I have a nice soundcard and speakers that I can only use with my laptop. I have CDs but they're from a long time ago

actually I do get some CDs when they don't sell on Bandcamp. Like I am getting the new Osamu Sato CD. Also Future Sound of London has some albums (annoyingly) only available as CD
