Breaded chicken, scalloped potatoes and whatever veggie Autumn asks for. Last night we had pizza, and tomorrow I'll wind up doing either a stir-fry or a stew.

Oh, man. I'm almost scared to interrupt the speaker topic. . . but I will anyway.

I outright own my home, so there isn't a mortgage (or, obviously, a rent) payment. 3+1 bedroom, 1.5 bath with a partially finished basement. It's well insulated and it's only the two of us here so my utility bills aren't bad at all (my cell phone bill last month was more than my gas bill).

The last place I had to pay rent on was half of a duplex. $770 (including hot water heater rental) plus utilities. The neighbours were nice, so it was all right.

I had a night of childlessness so I took myself to see Daybreakers, a semi-futuristic vampire sci-fi examination of greed and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. Ethan Hawke is a hematologist vampire dude in a messed up future where almost everyone is a vampire. Sam Neill is the bad guy (and he does it well, despite the fact that he doesn't get nearly enough screen time) and Willem Dafoe plays a guy named Elvis who serves as comic relief. Basically, the plot revolves around the idea that the vampires of the world are starving, so something must be done to fix the problem. I quite like how the vampires were portrayed and the way the issue of hunger was presented was very relatable. Overall, it was worth the trip to the theatre.

I rented Grand Theft Auto: WWII (The Saboteur)

I have something like ten hours sunk into the game and I think I've done, like, ONE freaking story related quest. The rest of the time I've been running around blowing shit up and getting my Irish nuts blown off by trigger happy Nazis. The game has this artsy thing going on where you have to bring the color back to Paris by inspiring the people which is all well and good, but I've had to mess with the gamma correction in order to see what the hell is going on in the black and white areas.

Worth the rental, definitely, but I don't see myself buying it.

Tonight is family time with my dad and siblings. My brother and his wife are down, so they're staying here. Tomorrow is partly at my inlaws, and partly with my dad's family in Windsor. Boxing Day is ridiculous shopping day and the day I'm taking down my Christmas decorations, and the 27th is with my inlaws. Autumn and I aren't really doing much together, simply because I'm not big into Christmas, and we've already taken care of the 'there is no Santa so don't get excited' thing, so we're chilling out together.

Avatar was pretty to look at, I'll admit that, and the story was cohesive enough to keep me entertained for the movie, but the moment I heard the word UNOBTAINUM I about wet myself laughing. I'm glad I went to see it, but I'm also glad that I used my theatre points card to get in for free, because if I had paid $13.00 to watch Blue Uhura and friends battle Stonewall Jackson and his merry band of trigger happy extras, well. . . I wouldn't have been impressed.

I will admit, though, that the scope of the movie was impressive, as was the attention to detail done with the CGI. But looks aren't everything. . .

The Princess and the Frog is the latest movie to be cranked out of the Disney studios, and the first hand-drawn (HA!) piece since 2004. The story takes place in 1920s New Orleans where the latest in Disney's long line of princesses, a woman named Tiana, wants nothing more than to open a restaraunt, and she winds up a frog. She eventually gets her dream, as well has a handsome prince, and she lives happily ever after. The end.

Oh yeah, did I mention that she falls in love and gets married over the course of two days?!

The voice acting was good, which made the movie watchable. The soundtrack was jazzy with a really nice ragtime/big band era feel; it was, without a doubt, the best part of the movie. The style was nice, and the movie was pretty to look at, but I just couldn't get over the story. It felt really rushed, like Disney decided that they wanted to cram as much into a 48 hour period as they could, and cram they did.

It was wacky, and I understand that it was a kid's movie, but I just really didn't like the story so I couldn't get into the movie. Autumn seemed to enjoy it, though.

You know, you've got a car that's been on the road, AT MOST, 2 years. As sweet as it would be to have that car, I don't really see the point in putting out another monthly payment when you could be saving that money for a house. If you've got your heart set on getting a new car, more power to you, but do yourself a favour and build up a safety net-type savings. Run the Focus into the ground and then get the sweet, lady-attracting ride.

Anyone see Princess and the Frog? I'm going tuesday or wednesday, wanted to know if it's any good.
Velfarre, I really want to see that movie about the fox. It looks wicked.

The Princess and the Frog doesn't start until the 11th. . . I plan on taking Autumn the day it opens.

Just got back from seeing Armored and I have to admit that I sort of almost enjoyed it a bit. It had its good moments, but it seemed really slow to me. I don't know. . . Every time I saw Laurence Fishburne on screen I kept thinking: "Wow, Morpheus has gone batshit insane!"

Still haven't watched Farcry yet. I'm almost scared.

For the first time in something like two months I was finally able to sit down and watch a movie, from start to end, without having to do something else while the movie was playing. I watched Carriers with the new Captain Kirk, one of the guys frow Law and Order: SVU and other people and I have to admit that I really enjoyed it. I picked it up based on the cover alone, so I was expecting horror. I'm not disappointed, but this isn't a horror film at all. In fact, I'm not entirely sure how to classify this movie. Basically, it's the story of two brothers and their clingers on who are trying to get to some beach they remember from childhood, set against the backdrop of the world ended by some virus that isn't really talked about. You see a kid in the late stages of it, and you get to see a few people in the early stages, but you don't learn more than is absolutely necessary.

If you like a thinking man's movie, or you're into character studies, I do recommend this movie.

I've also rented Farcry, Uwe Boll's latest adventure into video game destruction. . . should be interesting.

I am so glad I rented this and didn't purchase it. Yup, it's nice to look at, but the repetitive nature has already gotten under my skin.

Also, and I shit you not, one of the more important charcters in the story introduces himself with this line: "Hey, it's-a me, Mario!" You know, like Super Mario? I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Rare seem to have a knack for making almost immposible games. Ask anyone who's played battletoads (nes).

Battletoads. Holy shit, that game pissed me off so much.

I'm easily frustrated, and since I play games to relax, I'm likely to turn them off if they frustrate me. . . so yeah, quite a few games have 'beaten' me.

I rented the first game when it was relatively new and had quite a bit of fun with it. The biggest problem I had with the game is that it got repetitive very quickly. Towards the end, all you really had to do was breath and a horde of sword wielding guards were breathing down your neck trying to lob your head off. I had my fun with it, and I enjoyed looking at the game, but I never bothered to buy it.

I fully plan on renting AC2 to get a feel for the game and if I like it, I may pick it up.

Troubadours + archives + pictures of members holding signs of R.I.P. Steel, condolences to his family etc as a internet memorial?

I lack the ability and the talent to record any of the music Steel enjoyed, but I believe that the Troubadours idea is beautiful. I wouldn't mind having a peak at the archives, too.

The idea of us taking pictures of ourselves holding up signs of R.I.P. Steel strikes me as one of those things that could be a really neat idea. It would give a lot of people an idea of just how many lives he truly touched.

Steel was one of the first people from GW to contact me after my husband died. I will always remember that, above anything else.

He was a good person, and I feel lucky to have known him, if only through the internet. It's frustrating to feel so powerless over life and death.

I honestly don't know what else to say.

Vivaldi, Haydn, and Handel, and it's just so boring.

Call me boring, but those are three of my favorite classical composers. I also love me some Gustav Holst; his two military suites are always great to listen to. John Philip Sousa is, without a doubt, the March King, and I love him for that.

Birthday party tonight then I'm playing a show tomorrow night. My debut as a LEAD singer (I was previously the keyboardist/guitarist in band, I am now the keytarcalist.)

Congrats on the LEAD SINGER status.

Anyway, I'm having a Halloween party on Saturday, which should be a riot. People are coming from all over to be here so I'm pretty pumped.

I want to see Pandorum, if only for Dennis Quaid.

Anyway, I got the [sarcasm]delightful pleasure[/sarcasm] of sitting through Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs yesterday. Autumn seemed to get a kick out of food falling from the sky, but I found the movie to be rather boring. It isn't like some of its other animated contemporaries that make for good all-around family entertainment, CWaCoM is purely for the kids, and I really wish I had waited for it to come to DVD. The best part of the movie (for me) was Bruce Campbell and Mr. T doing voices for the mayor and the town police chief.
