coxswain, what model number of PSP do you have? is it one of the original fat ones or a slim one?

I think only like half of the slim ones are hackable while all the fat ones are. You pretty much need to pry open the battery, break a solder connection point for one of the chips on the circuit board. Then you can use it to put the PSP into service mode and then you can load custom firmware on the device.

EDIT: They expect consumers to choose between the PSP GO and the PSP 3000, so I'm guessing they are trying to dominate the market? I mean they release two portable consoles....more chance of the consumer buying one or the other. Why didn't they just stick the 16GB storage capacity into the PSP 3000... geez I mean theres practically no big difference between that and the PHAT or SLIM psp.

Do you have a PSP 3000 or an older model?  It sounds to me like you have a PSP 3000 as I think those were the ones included in the GOW bundle.

If  you have a PSP 3000 or newer then you can't as of yet play ISO's or anything so no pirated PSP games or playstation games although it has just been recently hacked to allow emulation and homebrew using ChickHEN.

If you have an older model then you can fully hack it but I'm pretty sure you have a 3000 model (like me!)

You can download ChickHEN from this site as well as PSP specific Emulators (you'll have to get your own ROMS).

I assume at some point someone will come out with a hack to allow ISOs but right now it's not happening.

Oh, good news it looks like you actually have a 2001 model which you can fully hack.  if you go to psphacks.com you'll be able to get all the info you need.

They listed a host of games that will be available for PSP GO, such as LBP and Metal Gear Solid... but will they be in disc format so I actually "own" the game and don't have to redownload it everytime in the foreseeable future I want to play it?

So PSP Go will kinda be like that ONLIVE thing that was shown but for an actual piece of hardware. I still don't get how this will stop the piracy as once you download a game wouldn't that give pretty much anyone access to that when someone just uploads it for everyone else to get?

the thing is, at least for me, and i'm sure some other people can relate, is that i've got bandwidth caps for each month, and if i pass those, it costs me extra monnies


so if i pay for a game i regularily do not wish to also have to add it's weight to my download total and risk going over, i'd prefer having it in physical form

Definitely not down here in Australia. Our internet is fucking terrible. If I want to download something that's a gig, that's definitely an overnight thing; at the VERY FASTEST it would take at least 6-7 hours. No scratch that, longer than that.

Plus also the bandwidth caps that someone mentioned. I don't have to pay extra if I go over, but I get slowed to 64 kb/s (in actual truth it is muuuuuuuch slower) as soon as I hit 25 gigs for the month.

That said, I'm not such a big fan of the PSPGO or whatever it's called. I dunno, it's nice, but I hardly use my original one as is.

I've been thinking about getting a PSP for a few months now, and this pretty much seals the deal for me.

As someone who has never owned or even USED a PSP before, this new model looks pretty cool in my opinion. I can see it being uncomfortable after a short while though, which could be a problem. The DS suffers from this as well.
