well, i decided to finally catch up with the current trends a little bit and buy a game that was released only 3 years ago!! yeah, i got mass effect.

i'm a good 15/16 hours into it, and i like it. it really captures how i think space exploration would be like: a lot of rock, a bit of harsh weather and weird fucking sexy alien things in total recall style strip clubs. the game just keeps throwing quests down your throat though, and it gets annoying because they're pretty much all the same (go to planet find research lab kill turrets outside run in and deal with geth/angry cultists). the EXP system is pretty cool though, i like that i can get 96 exp by checking out the hull of my space ship, that sits nicely with me.

there's a lot of nice ideas in the game (i really love those monotone aliens who say how they're intending a sentence to be spoken before their dialogue, they're pretty cool) but the story is pretty boring and tedious, the characters largely there just to fill certain roles (dedicated soldier, good cop, archaeology girl, head hunter etc) but this game is pretty much all about the side quests anyway. i mean its really in depth, there's a lot going on and its easy to get pretty lost in it all, but its largely quantity over quality. i dunno, maybe itll pick up as the storyline missions go on, i'm not too far into it, i've mostly been going out surveying planets for weird teenage literature and alien dongs.

I'm downloading Fallout: New Vegas and It's gonna take a few days so I hope it's worth it. Fallout 3 was trash. And Mass Effect 2 is a lot better than 1 IMO.

i also picked up star wars the force unleashed, the first one for the pc. i know this game got a lot of critiscism, but i think it's pretty good. the gameplay and controls are sometimes a bit awkward, and the game relies way more on the force then on lightsaber fighting, but still. i just think it's too bad you don't visit any classic planets like naboo or tatooine. it's also a bit strange that suddenly we have all these new jedi masters who never appeared during the prequel trilogy.
also been playing this today

and i mean the game is called THE FORCE UNLEASHED i think the emphasis on the force might be a given ;)

after like 3-4 days of just straight doing work and not playing games, I took a break and played an hour or so of Clear sky and 2 hours of Minecraft.

Tomorrow I'm still going to do some work though. I have 2  Data Structures projects I'm behind on. They are pretty big ones to. ugh. once I'm done with those though I'll be on track and likely have significantly more time to play games.

been playing the version of force unleashed 2 that leaked 2 days early. it's pretty great - text is in russian but the voices are in english so it's not hard to follow. fucking major star wars nut, so there's no way i'd dislike it, but i really do like how much they've improved the game even if it's only like 4-5 hours long (aurgh...).

Still playing Links Awakening, the uh singlescreen thing is probably what keeps me from enjoying it most but otherwise it's a blast. I went inside some random cave and there was a giant fish who did like a minute long dance sequence to 8bit mambo music and gave me an ocarina song. When I played the ocarina song I was warped to just some completely pointless pond area and a silent hovering ghost thing started following me around with no explanation. It doesn't do anything except make a spooky chiming sound whenever I change rooms, it's the best.

yes. i've been playing it with the mayday tileset. Also following the tutorial, I can't imagine playing this without following the tutorial first. I'm just amazed at how detailed and huge this game could be. From the tiniest details of internal organ and parts wounds to the realistic macrodesign of the world, its history and the geography.
It's just so awesome.

The way all the areas are broken up into screens of fixed height/width, without scrolling or whatever. It's a small thing but it makes all the individual locations seem kind of arbitrarily placed sometimes so you never get a real feeling of where you are. I don't know, maybe it's just me!

Picked up Assasin's Creed, damn I can't believe I didn't try it before. I always thought I wouldn't like it, but I was wrong, this game rocks. Being able to jump from rooftop to rooftop and dive straight down into haystacks like an athlete is just awesome.

I could have done without the whole research facility subplot though, actually so far it's the only downer of the game. It could have been a better game on its own without that bullshit.

yeah I've had that same problem with other games, like nifflas's knytt series at times

I tried playing link's awakening on my other comp I'm currently not using because it started stinking when powered on for some reason. some of the stuff you guys mentioned is pretty good I guess but other than that I've found it tedious and not really entertaining at all. I don't think I like games anymore!

i loved links awakening and aside from Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker it's the only Zelda game I played to the end without guides or anything. I remember getting stuck in Eagle Tower or something (I think the last 2 dungeons you could do in any order, right? It was the last one I had to complete) and I got so stuck I didn't play for like 6 months, then I started it up again and somehow beat the temple and completed the game. Good game :)
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

The research facility isn't a subplot. Altairs story is the subplot. You'll soon realise.

Anyway, still playing New Vegas because it's awesome. I even made a mod!
