usually if they go insane they go running away to die. in the meantime a goblin ambush killed my fortress guard and the whole place tantrum spiralled. i had to abandon the fortress. visiting in adventurer mode now

i've only played DF once because it was pretty terrifying. now that there are tilesets i'd do it.

I got a new wide screen TV that is perfect for some awesome DF action. I am also pretty sure I still have the save somewhere where I have found the Holy Grail of embark sites (a fully above ground volcano with aquifer, absolutely no pumps needed), I should have  backed up a save while just starting at that site, so it stings less when I lose the fort and never find an embark site that awesome ever again.

The only reason I don't currently play is because the MC server I play has just recently gotten almost all of my favorite mods on it, and I literally can't stop myself from being addicted to playing around on it constantly. (I am well aware that the only reason you say minecraft sucks is because you can't play a cracked copy online and DF is free)

But it is true that DF is the king of single player mode, regardless of how impossibly awesome a multi-player version of that game could have been. Also I could find renewed interest if there were enough people playing to start a topic on it. The way I see it, sharing experience, designs, and various tips when it comes to a game that complex, is the next best thing to actually playing it at the same time.

I started playing KOTOR again about a half a week ago or so. I really like it and I think it has just about the perfect Side Quest and Main Quest ratio. I also think the battle system is a nice improvement over Baldur's Gate's in terms of speed and interface.

However there are some things that bug me. For instance, I'm at the middle part where you have to find the Star Maps and you get your choice of what planet to go to. Now, I love non-linear games but I've always thought the choice of a few mandatory things was kind of a shitty way of doing that. The fact that some of my favorite games of all time had you do this does not deter from my dislike of this trope.

Also, I don't like how the game rewards you for either being super good or a total asshole. If you decide to be a more neutral character (which I usually tend to do in western RPGs) you get chastised by fucking everybody. Is it so wrong to save a bunch of kidnapped things and then use my force powers to not have to pay a docking fee? Can't I be a good guy but still enjoy bounty hunting? I also think the Mandolorian evil PC is kind of over the top. Every conversation with him is like "Remember how much my people like KILLING THINGS?"

Another thing is that your team's pathfinding can be a fucking nightmare. I hate it when I chose someone to be on my team especially for their ability to kill something or hack a computer or something and then when I get there that character is at the beginning of the dungeon after presumably running into the wall for the last minute and a half. And even though the guy from Baldur's Gate isn't there to read aloud "You must gather your party before venturing forth" his voice is still in my head everytime it displays exactly the same text so it still bugs me.

As much as I ranted I still think it's fucking awesome. I think it would be cool if there was a game that could capture Bioware's expertise of pacing and story with Bethesda's talents of making things wide open and explorable. It probably won't happen and it probably shouldn't if I ever want to leave my house.

Anyway just started another DF world. I had a pretty good and easy embark site. 3 biomes, a river, deep soil, metals, fluxes, and a calm surroundings. Shame I didn't have mountains since i want to practice bulding fortresses within them and dealing with th issues involved (enemies raining form atop the cloffs of the mountains).
Also after hours of reading the wiki I'm now more confident and knowledgeable with various items and what I should use them for thus could plan ahead more. I'm still not an expert on weapons and how the whole squad, battle, military thing works so i'm waiting for those goblins to attack meanwhil i'm building defenses and still undecided on what industry to focus on. I want to have a big farm but somehow farmers don't tend to fill up all the plot, still trying to figure out why.

mountains are (marginally) easier to defend, because it's easier to channel enemies down certain paths and straight into your traps / siege engines / marksdwarves... with the drawback that you'll usually get more dangerous creatures

farmers will only plant as many seeds as are available and if any of the tiles aren't muddy, they won't plant on those. make sure you're farming underground and above ground for variety. if you channel out a hole to the open air and then cover the hole with floor, it's still considered above ground, so you can farm above ground without worrying about defending it. plump helmets and wild strawberries are p. much the best crops because they can be eaten and turned into alcohol

oh. never tried being attacked so I'm not familiar with the art of killing them.

the newwest (31.25)/ I've read on the wiki that on some subversion of 31 and beyond they allowed planting even on non-muddy soil and actually it works so i don't need to mud with water.I think the only thing that needs mudding is the rock layers.

it's not really worth the effort / risk of flooding. you don't have a subterranean soil layer?

I have and i didn't flood it. The farmers actually plants on it but somehow they don't use up the whole plot even if I have more seeds.

pokemon mystery dungeon. The dungeons are rougelike, but with Pokemon. It's pretty damn cool.

The new 3Ds mash up of Pokemon looks interesting to bad it might never see the day to reach US shores.

Ain't nothin better than killin a dragon....killin two dragons at once? I like the dragon parts its pretty hilarious when they start swooping down into a village and everyone runs around yelling "GET THAT DRAGON!" "DIE YOU DRAGON!" it kind of makes me feel bad for em. Like a leather winged brotha can't get no peace.

I've got the Halo remake here but I don't really have time to play it when I'm off and two dudes are sleepin in my room during the day so I can't play it while I'm working. This shit is boring I'm getting paid to just sit around but theres nothin to do on here except watch mexican tv which sucks but tv sucks anyways.

Also when I was leaving home for the airport my brother ran the halo over with my car. There weren't hardly any scratches on it so it should work but it did get run over with a car...

Skyrim isn't really any fun, even a little bit, after you get past how nice parts of it look. That's a decent reason to give it a whirl for a few hours but it is really remarkable how bland and uninteresting everyone you meet and all of the worldbuilding is.
