Hello Weird video games (Read 1309 times)

  • Group: Guest
I know I've played a lot of SNES, SEGA and PC games in the past I've perceived as really strange, and I recently got the urge to find more. I want to play some really weird video games. It can either be abstract and surreal or just sort of strange and unusual, and preferrably something I can emulate or download.

I can't think of a single example right now, so post your fav weird gams.

There's this japanese PS1 game called LSD, I haven't played it yet myself but I know it's very abstract and strange. Apparently some guy in the development team kept a dream journal for 10 years and then they made a world about the dreams. There's no objective - you can only explore by walking into things.

That's really cool. I will have to check it out.

Also I found some good pirated 5000 or whatever in one cartridge videos when searching for strange games. I love how they were designed to keep you from finishing the first level.

It would be cool to see someone make tool-assisted gameplay vids where they complete these titles.

Ahahaha, this is incredible.

Apparently it's a hack of Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu.

dude, that's the jackie chan adventure game. i made a naked rom hack of that.

there's this one japanese first person roguelike for the sega saturn called baroque that i've always wanted to play. a remake of it came out in english for the ps2 and wii and it's pretty neat, i haven't really gotten far in it, but the sega saturn version looks a lot neater to me and conveys the atmosphere so much better.

there's a pretty boring video of its gameplay. here's the remake.

the original version seems so much more horrifying. the heartbeat pulsating slowly in the background, speeding up when you get scared or take damage, the grimey, pixelly walls, your complete lack of peripheral vision; it builds up this horrifying atmosphere that the remake doesn't seem to have.

if you ignore the terrible j-pop music, this movie really shows a lot more of baroque than just the dungeon crawling. i was hoping to find a picture or some video of this crazy-looking long-necked guy you can talk to outside of the dungeon because he is definitely my favorite thing about baroque but unfortunately i couldn't find anything! i'm pretty sure this game is fairly playable in english since i don't think you really need to interact with the people outside, but i'm not sure. it is pretty obviously supposed to be a horror game and from the videos i've seen, it looks pretty horrifying to me!!! anyway, this game is really weird and very cool and i think if you bother with it you might like it.

plumbers don't wear ties

nsfw just because it's all "TAKE YOUR CLOTHES OFF....", doesn't show anything though

this looks like an awful slideshow....but it's a 3do game!

i've always wanted to find a copy of this game just because it looks so......indescribably terrible

i mean yeah there are tons of awful adult games out there but this one is a photo of a smarmy dude saying "THEY'RE the ones who get head i mean get ahead" with a single dramatic chord in the background

lol Earthbound

but also anything by Artdink except the train simulators (most are Playstation games)

like I own a copy of Tail of the Sun and it's like really boring after a little bit but it's cool enough for like a half hour

also I'm a big fan of Yume Nikki if RPG Maker games count

I played Tail of the Sun for the first time like three weeks ago, I had no idea what I was supposed to do with it but like you said it's cool for half an hour.

yeah there's also this game called Otaku no Seiza for the NES that looked pretty weird, like Earthbound-level weird but more like japanesey, maybe

this is the only screen shot other than the title screen I could find

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3141/2987726905_1f41e77d16.jpg?v=0

apparently this is a sequel

http://www.mobygames.com/game/aurora-quest-otaku-no-seiza-in-another-world

also speaking of Yume Nikki I think it was supposed to be a sequel/inspired by LSD (the game I mean lolol) the Earthbound references are there but if you look at LSD really it has a lot in common with that game, the [lack ][/lack] structure, gameplay etc.

Goemon games are pretty weird and there's a lot of them and at least half seem to be actual good games unlike most of this japanese art student hipster crap (Hideo Kojima)

Edit: I always thought Paladin's Quest was a REALLY weird game as far as the art style went, but the story was like ridiculously straightforward and sounded like a Dragon Warrior game on paper. It just makes it weirder that the game looks so interesting while the dialogue is completely deadpan - but it's seriously still my favorite art style in an RPG ever

I used to rent Goemon for the N64 all the time.  I don't know why but I always thought he was the coolest character and I can't remember what led me to think this (like...I wanted the game BECAUSE I thought he was so cool, but why did I even know who he was???)

Plok was also a pretty weird game but it was again pretty straightforward like Paladin's Quest as far as I recall, and like basically just mario gameplay but 10% as fun

you should really just revisit games you played when you were younger, Yoshi's Island is pretty strange really

Like what kinda weird, dark undertones in an otherwise kiddish game weird or wtf is this weird?

Cause I remember this block puzzle game I played where the "characters" were robot things with googly eyes and there was no dialogue at all, and the object was to reach the core of these spheres where the outer shell were destroyable blocks, I think you had to destroy them a certain way I can't quite remember how, and the background was so flashy and retro I guess you can say.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

Played Stretch Panic on PS2... It was -weird-... You are this chibi-quazi WindWaker Link girl with a possessed scarf that has a giant evil eye and hand on it. You use the scarf to run around weird ass levels to stretch obese women's breasts until they pop, then fight bosses by stretching and pulling at weak points. Also, the hub is a black and white sketchy-looking museum where you stretch a painting to enter a level.

Another famous, but let's face it weird game was Jumping Flash (PSone). Played that a couple months ago. You are a rabbit-shaped spaceshit that can jump really high. So you go to floating islands full of oddball monsters and jump around. It's also first person, making it really annoying.

That LSD game reminds me of those old 3D maze Windows screensavers.  Used to think that was the cool thing.

That's really cool. I will have to check it out.

That's a pretty kickass graphical style on that one.

Did anyone ever get the Chex Quest CD-Rom with their Chex cereal back in the day?  Best damn cereal "toy" I ever found.  It's hilarious because it's just a graphical rehash of Doom.  You're this Chex dude blasting aliens with your lazer spoon.
keep posting...

The only time I ever ate Chex was to get Chex Quest.
I still have my disk and even played though it a while ago.
You can take the wad and run the game though a Doom source port, though the final boss will move when he is not supposed to.

On a related note, check out Darkened Skye
It's a mediocre action-adventure game released in 2002 for the PC and the GameCube.
However, no where on the packaging does it mention that your character's amazing magics are powered by SKITTLE CANDYTM.
This is a game you actually had to pay for.
Imagine is a new Zelda game came out and Link had to refill his magic by eating Snickers.

You know, chex quest was so popular he did a sequel, and SO popular in the doom community...

he made a third episode in like 2007 or 2008.

because yeah, chex quest was a one-man-mod of DooM. ;D

I remember Darkened Skye, but I only knew of it BECAUSE some video game article talked about how someone was making a skittles game (so I wouldn't have been very surprised by it).  Never played it though.
