What is your opinion on the state of late night talk shows today?  Who is the best, and who just flat-out sucks?  Who is the best interviewer, and who runs the best skits?  Do you think Conan has changed?  What's bigger, Leno's chin or the gap between Letterman's teeth?  Post clips of your favorite segments or interviews.

Conan's monologue is a little lame, but he always butters it up with a funny video or skit. More or less he's the same, and his skits are still great. The only difference is they can afford things.
However, after months of skepticism I've come to like Jimmy Fallon more than the rest. His show is great.

ferguson is the worst. I watched his show one time because bryan cranston was going to be on and I had to wait until the last five minutes to see him. the rest of the time ferguson was doing stupid skits, and when cranston showed up they didn't even talk about anything.

I don't like talk shows but I usually don't have anything better to do. conan and letterman are the best ones right now. they almost always have bad guests. the later shows get a better selection, but ferguson is awful and I don't like fallon either.

I think Conan is still largely the same, and he's always been my favorite.  I saw Fallon the other night, and he was just horrible.  His "jokes" were horrible and nervously delivered.  His interviews are awkward as all hell.  Maybe that's just his intentional style, but I don't find it cute or funny in any way.  Ferguson sucks even worse.  It's like his writers deliberately avoid putting anything remotely humorous in the show.

Conan's monologues are pretty consistently funny, but there's always the punchlines that just fall flat, and he's kind of like "they made me do it" about it.

Also, does anyone get very distracted by the backgrounds in these shows?  Conan's new set is the most distracting, with that wall of random shapes (especially after those Mario pics came out).  Leno's old cityscape background had this random blob of color that I would be fixed on, trying to figure out what it's supposed to be.

Leno finally retired (but you already knew that i'm sure) from The Tonight Show and I watched one of his last interviews with Arnold on the Tonight Show. Conan i'm gonna have to get used to his very first day was a big skit mostly for his "intro", thought that was needless.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

Jimmy Fallon blows!  I tuned in for like a few minutes the other day and he was just showing pictures from his wedding or some crap.  He had a bunch of pictures on his iPhone or whatever, so not only did I have to watch a vacation slide show, I also had to strain my eyes and be advertised to!  Thanks, Jimmy Fallon.

They're all a bunch of embarassing hacks. Brother Theodore appeared on Letterman at various times during the 80's. This is the only good thing I've ever seen on a talk show. David Letterman is still terrible in these videos, and so is the audience, but Brother Theodore videos are scarce.

Here's a good one:

I think the rest are easy to find with links.

I really like Craig Ferguson! I think that Lord Cronos of the Monkey People is great, he's not afraid to fall back on classic stuff like throwing a pie now and then, and his style is very tongue-in-cheek and I find it hilarious. Because his interviews are more conversational, it really depends on who he has on the show as to whether or not its hilarious.

And come to think of it, I haven't seen Conan since he moved timeslots. Maybe I'll watch for it tonight.

Can someone explain the appeal of these? I don't find them funny at all, and the only possible things of interest - interviews with filmmakers and musicians and people, are ruined because the host asks maybe 2 questions before showing a clip and taking a commercial break, and that's it! For decent conversation with these people I'll watch Charlie Rose.

The appeal is definitely not the interviews for me. I almost always skip them once I find out what guests are on.

Well, answer me this. Is Letterman supposed to be funny?

yeah I've noticed this.  Like i'll be looking online and find like interviews with people that I'd want to see interviewed and it ends up being on one of these late night shows where the questions are really dumb and the interview lasts a total of 5 minutes including the introduction of the person and then a clip or explanation of what it is that they do. although sometimes its nice when they have bands  play a song or something, except 99% of the time they're terrible bands playing

I enjoy watching these, in particular Conan and Leno when he was on.
Frankly Fallon is pretty terrible, however I think some of his jokes had potential to be funny, but his delivery kills them.
I think he might get better eventually.

As for interviews, that is the part of the show I usually ignore unless its someone I'm interested in. I usually look at these for the monologues or sketches. As mentioned a bit above, stuff like the "Twitter Tracker", which was quite similar to the former "Late Night Sausage Party" bit.

But yeah, damn Wimbledon and Conan re-runs.

Jimmy Kimmel is probably the funniest out of them all, but I quite like the letterman interviews

but yeah, Charlie Rose is the best

Only have letterman really in New Zealand.. He's alright. Half the time I don't know who he interviews though.

I liked Conan back when he was on Comedy Central years ago, but I don't really like him much now.  I'm never up that late though so I don't really see any of these.
