Software company Global Gaming Factory X (GGF) says it is in the process of acquiring The Pirate Bay and file-sharing technology company Peerialism. GGF claims to have the biggest network of internet cafés and gaming centers in the world.

The changeover of ownership is scheduled for August 2009, whereby GGF will take over the operation of the site.

The company says that after it has completed the acquisition it will launch new business models so that copyright owners get paid, which is clearly a huge diversion from TPB’s previous modus operandi.

“We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site,” said Hans Pandeya, CEO GGF.

The owners would get paid? The traffic is going to be shot to hell if they don't do something creative with how the money weight is put on the people leeching/seeding.

Why purchase a torrent site if you aren't going to allow torrent with it? People who to to TPB go to get shit for free, this is a bad investment by GGF.

edit: if you search for sims and sort by seeders then you find it easy try a little harder climbtree

mininova doesn't exactly weed out the bad torrents people just add shit to it every day you got to sort by seeds because the ones that are generally still active are the ones that are reliable.   If you go by date, people add shit every day that are repeats of torrents that already exist, but don't have the health that the older and more active torrents of the same thing have.

the point is they're getting rid of copywritten content, you can still find stuff but it's harder. ie and specifically: house episodes

yeah i read in christian science monitor that they are going to change the pirate bay to an rp-themed community with collectible items, equipment, stats, and avatars. should be lots of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah true this sudden and huge increase in copyrighted material probably isn't a trend stemming from their current court case. i'm sure more and more content will be added because it's easier to add torrents then to remove them, and once this whole thing blows over, like it did for the piratebay, i'm sure it'll actually become easier to find a brand new game with a tonne of seeds.

shut up climbtree anyone with half a brain can find torrents of popular stuff in two seconds piratebay or not, if you can't that's your own goddamn problem, this is hardly going to hurt piracy, just piss off people who are going to download more out of spite.  no one is going to use this new service if it means having to pay or not getting high-profile software, they'll just get it from one of the other babillions of torrent sites

fixed.  it is scary what songs you find lion king music videos for, at least with anime we're talking thousands of shows but the lion king is a single thing

also youtube is cracking down on music quite a bit but it just gets uploaded again so it doesn't really matter, it has to be incredibly popular for them to put a lot of time into that

i don't see what your point is, taking down the leading torrent sites is going to 'hurt' torrenting. no-ones going to download more out of spite that's ridiculous, people are going to download less if it takes them longer to do it, though.
