Q: How much does XNA Game Studio cost? Is there a difference between Windows and Xbox 360 development?
A: Visual C# 2005 Express, the XNA Game Studio tools and runtime environment for Windows are all FREE
Also even if it costs money to make xna programs run on xbox microsoft is like the only company with a human readable sdk with a ton of tutorials out there
I never said ANYTHING about XNA costing money, I said it cost money to run it on the xbox. If that's worth it to you then fine it's just most people don't have $90 laying around to spend on that as a hobby.
$90 is not that much money to be able to run xna games on your xbox. And actually isn't the 90 bucks just to submit it to the marketplace, not to just run it on an xbox? Either way, it's pretty reasonable for any aspiring game developer. I would consider paying the money even if it was only to be able to play the games on the xbox.
I'm 95% sure you can't even run them without paying the fee, plus it's $90 yearly. I don't think it's all that reasonable, that's a huge chunk of change--especially if your game takes over a year to develop. I think the best possibility is to release it as a windows game, get donations, and then use those to pay for the $90, but $90 yearly out of pocket just to put your game on the xbox (even just to see how it works out) is a LOT.
