I mean if he was that important he'd appear on stories from people other than the ones who wrote the bible all we know is that there was a movement called christianity about 100 years ago but was there a jesus? No one knows for sure

Pericles was an important dude in athens and his history is well documented and people made statues of him, why isn't this the case with jesus?

there's a lot of evidence that famous romans had no genitals (christianity was illegal in rome for a fair while, and the religion prohibits iconography)

Before jesus decided he was a god it was ok to make statues of him, so why didn't they

it really wasn't, the commandment is not to make any engraven object or whatever. when christianity was made legal and started spreading it picked up a bunch of other practices, like iconography, which it's been criticised for.

they did for the ptolemaic dynasty. what are you talking about? the point inri's making is that there is art contemporary to the lives of people far less significant (i.e. everyone) than jesus, and if some existed it would probably validate a lot.

jesus was an unimportant criminal at the time and christians and christianity were outlawed for a while after his death. i don't see why they would make statues or keep records of him, most others recorded were historians or government/political figures/ ROMAN CITIZENS. i think i'd have a hang of a time trying to prove the existence of my great grandpa with HARD EVIDENCE

the admittedly poorly researched point I was trying to make is Jesus probably didn't seem that important to any non-Christians. Like climbtree said he was basically a criminal, just some dude walking around getting followers. Why would people inscribe that? "Oh just another joe schmoe conman, better fully detail his life in stone for future generations!"
