Hi guys.

I've never owned a N64 and the only games from that console that I've ever played are the two Zelda games (but I completed neither). I feel like I'm missing out here because it's right in the middle of my favorite era of games.
I heard it's possible to play N64 games on the PSP. Has anyone attempted this? Doesn't the N64 controller have way more buttons than the PSP?

If it doesn't work out I think I'll actually buy the console since it's only like €15 used these days.

i'm just going to comment that each second hand game costs about the same as a console here, but a lot of people sell bulk lots with the system.

I've also heard of an N64 emulator for the PSP, but it can't be more than a tech demo that's not really capable of running anything.  Even if there was some chance in hell that it COULD run it, like you said there aren't enough buttons.  You're definitely better off just buying an N64 or emulating it on a PC.

edit: wow I've actually found videos of this running, but almost all of them are running Super Mario 64.  i find it incredibly suspicious when emulators are just testing ONE game, because that tends to mean that other games don't run very well at all

a friend of mine has an N64 and he's been collecting games for it over the last few years and such for dirt cheap and pretty much all the ones he's gotten suck so whenever I go over there he shows me a new one he got and then we end up playing goldeneye or super smash bros  because those are the only two fun multi-player games made for the system

Daedalus is what it's called. It can play a few games quite well. Smash Brothers plays 100% just you can't have sound with it. Mario 64 is the same and a couple of other games play just as well but graphical glitches and what not. So yeah it works, just still needs tweaking on right now.

I can't think of any N64 game I would want to play without sound  :fogetsad:

I'd agree that N64 is the most poorly emulated system out there.  And the control scheme is crazy as hell, so it's almost impossible to play a game without the original controller.  I would urge you to buy the system for dirt cheap.  I still play some of my old games (Zelda, Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, etc etc.).  There were several good games, and the multiplayer blew PSX out of the water.

Not being in the US this may be different for you, but keep in mind that Snowboard Kids 2 is like $20 on eBay.  It's the one game I tend to plug in and power up my N64 for more than any other.  It's the reason I bought an N64.  Take what you will from that (i.e. buy it it's the best)

well I play most video games period without at least the game music on but considering how terrible most emulators do the sound/music, it is nearly impossible to have it playing with the game and manage to stay sane at the same time.

Isn't that the game where everyones nose is almost the size of their entire body. I used to play that game at my friends house when he had just bought a N64 because it was the only game he had.

the N64 is really lame if you plan on playing RPGs because it lacks any great RPG games. Besides Paper Mario and Zelda, there are hardly any other rpgs worth mentioning. Mother 3 was looking like an awesome game when it was in production but they cancelled it. I think Quest 64 also works on the N64 emulator on psp.

well yeah i agree that if i was forced to use this emulator i would definitely turn off the sound but what i'm saying is that given any sort of choice i would never use an emulator like that!

yes it is, and no you didn't play it because it was the only game he had--you played it because it's so damn good

Super Mario 64 is fully playable. Smash Bros almost. Other than that not much else runs. Snowboard kids runs but is too slow to be fun. Def check out SM64. It's very impressive. In the future most games should run ok.

the N64 wasn't that great anyway so you're not missing much.

I dunno, Sin and Punishment, Banjo, Banjo 2, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Zelda OOT, Zelda MM, Snowboard kids 1 and 2 the list goes on and on.

I know project64 works really good for my pc, and my pc is really bad. I'd say use a gamepad.

Project64 works really good, but still, some games have gfx bugs and some are just still very hard to emulate regardless

They are, but for the most part the important games (Zelda, Oot and MM, paper mario, SSB) work pretty decent. Not only that, but they come built in with cheat codes from Game Genie, gameshark etc. that let you do awesome things such as float in Zelda.

Get Project64 and use an xbox controller hooked up to your system. This is how I play my n64 games, and I do pretty well with it. SOMETIMES the emulator is a little dumb and gives some errors but it's almost never repeatable
