Imogen is my favourite artist and I'm so excited about her upcoming new album that I'm posting about it. It's entitled Ellipse and will be released on August 24/25 a little over a month from now.

Immi has released her first single from the album, First Train Home, and this song is amazing! I'll post a youtube video of it so that you can hear it. If you're a stranger to Imogen Heap, you should definitely look her up. She's a super talented artist who really deserves much more mainstream success than some of the garbage they're playing on top 40 radio here in North America. Anyway, just like her previous album, Speak for Yourself, Immi has written, created, and produced this album all on her own, in the confines of her new lovely home.

Here it is, First Train Home (the first single from the album):

Another new song that I just managed to find from this album, Canvas:

I know that not all of GW appreciates Imogen's music, and I can respect that - hopefully I'm not the only one enamored by her music and character though.

Mateui, you are some guy. I can't believe you stick around but I think I am glad you do.

Anyway, I don't like Imogen Heap. There was that song that was on The OC years ago, what was it called? The vocal only one. I liked that song back then but I was 15 or whatever and I was watching The OC. This kind of music just makes me think of that superficial, precious and pretentious 20-something indie lovers scene. I'm pretty sure she is a part of it, and I don't really like those kinds of people as far as I can tell.

As for the single, it sounds nice yeah. It's not interesting enough for me to decide to get over why I already don't like her, though.

I think she is already pretty famous, though, Mateui. I think she does all right.

Imogen Heap is from Romford in Essex, which isn't too far from where I live. I quite like her. I dunno about this album, but her last one was completely self produced in her bedroom, which I commend!

Yeah, you're talking about Hide and Seek. Actually, I too dislike the OC people who were introduced to Immi through that teenage soap melodrama. It seems that the two main ways that people were introduced to her was either from the OC or thanks to Zach Braff and Garden State (Frou Frou). Anyway, it sucks that she's associated with the OC, but it did give her a lot of exposure - I mean, they did a whole SNL skit with Hide and Seek - that's pretty big.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm still here when it seems like a large portion of GW looks down at me. Oh well. Gotta stay positive and continue onwards. :)

You're not alone Matuei. I think Imogen Heap is brilliant, she's one of the few artists whose music I consistently like. And WOW, these new tracks are awesome, Canvas especially.

I dunno, I tried to get into Imogen Heap when she was on the Zoo or something but she kind of went the way of BT for me... they're both kind of innovative with what they do with sound and stuff and I guess the recorded in her bedroom thing is kind of cool but it seems kind of like the same thing with BT who made an entire track in CSound like who gives a shit but at least the Imogen Heap is like kind of inspiring with the home studio thing I guess. The second youtube clip is pretty nice but it still kind of feels like the same fascist poppy stuff that's everywhere and will be used to soundtrack many car commercials (chances if the music works in a car commercial it's not really that avant-garde innovative stuff)

Edit: Also it's like the year 3000 with last.fm and the internet and all these different things I wish people would discover their own music and not rely on the OC or not even that even a halfway cool movie/show it's still kind of corny to discover new music that way

yeah definitely this. you are a mysterious person but we don't think you are bad Mateui!! you're a cool guy.

it still kind of feels like the same fascist poppy stuff that's everywhere and will be used to soundtrack many car commercials (chances if the music works in a car commercial it's not really that avant-garde innovative stuff
i felt like this to a lesser extent. even though the sounds are pretty good considering BEDROOM, i felt that this is sort of folk-ambient-new age stuff we've heard before w/ over long song structures. i do get that the focus is on mood but why the songs are so long & with so many parts??? heh you think about that/eat that/eat my shorts......
basically it's not bad but it's nothing exciting either. somewhat repetitive.

Never heard of her before, just listened to those two songs.

I liked a lot of things in it: her voice, the newage-folk feel (how the hell do you get that to not sound tacky?), the melodiousness, a very spacious but warm and atmospheric mix and so forth. But, it had a sort of catchy, poppy feeling to it, which isn't bad in itself, but for that the songs would've needed more focus. Some kind of a hook to really get you, a punchline. Now they just flowed on and on and felt a lot longer than they were. First Train Home's chorus tried I guess, but fell a bit short and sounded more like a prechorus, just blended in to the song too much. It all could work as an ambient thing, but then the poppy melodies would sound pretty badly out of place.

Reminds me of Kate Bush's album Aerial by the way.

E: God no, the title has the album before the artist! We need those mods.

I was thinking about that today. I couldn't decide which sounded less unprobable, that someone would name their child Imogen Heap or that someone would choose a stage name like that.

Also, Bob Rock.

You should also look into Frou Frou. You'll probably like that as well.  :)

It's been up there for a few days now but it's only 128kbps. It leaked in good quality today though and I'm liking it a lot based on the first listen.
