Hey guys so Wii Sports Resort was released on Sunday, which also happened to be my birthday.  I got $125 in amazon gift certificates and was thinking about getting Resort but that's at least $45 and I don't know if that's worth it.  I do play Wii Sports every now and then and having a motion plus thing might be nice for the future and I am really interested in the archery and sword fighting games.  But what do I know.  Should I just get Punch-Out instead??  Or what else???

I'm leaning a bit towards no but then again this is AMAZON GIFT CARD money so it's not like I have to sacrifice eating for a week or anything.  I don't know.  Make a decision for me.

the funny thing about this is that I was expecting somebody to mention something about consumerism and wasting money and I was specifically going to say "it's not like I'm buying a third copy of chrono trigger because it has a new dungeon"

is that the point you are trying to make because these are two very different things.

preemptively satirizing that

idk, it looks pretty dumb, like I watched the E3 nintendo conference long enough to see it in action and it was just five or six little minigames. The archery looked like it might be fun for a few minutes but basketball and skydiving looked stupid as fuck. All skydiving involved was holding and tilting the controller around to make your dude shift in the sky and grab other people. basically they are just a bunch of dumb minigames I guess and half of them are things you can do in real life you know? the addon is desperately needed for the Wii to be more than a soccermom novelty though so you're really paying for that plus some minigames. But since it's not your dough, go nuts, you'll still have lots left over to buy brainfood.

Wii Sports Resort is getting pretty good reviews, and I hear it is a much more complete experience than the original was.

I feel like this would be the same for me as Wii Sports is--if it comes with the system, it's worth playing, but I would never actually buy it.

yeah, i wouldn't pay for it; if I got it for free or had a gift card of someplace that sold only games and there was nothing else, then i'd play it

but fuck every other possibilty

oh yeah Red Steel 2 is apparently getting really good buzz so that might also be an incentive.  i'm gonna think for a while and see if there's anything I would rather get and if not I might get it then.  we'll see.

It's actually a pretty good game.  There are 12 of the little sports on there some definitely better than others and there is a lot more content to it than the original had.  The first one a lot of people got away with simply calling a tech. demo where this one by comparison is pretty much a more content driven game.  Every one of the major sports/games on there has sub modes to it and every one of those modes has a reward/achievement system in place that involves eve rything from completing general challenges or doing some of the wall stuff.  For instance, there is this "psychic" award or something if you manage to correctly slice one of the items in Swordplay's speed slice mode before it hits the ground.

Aside from one of the games being kind of janky (cycling) and the jet ski game not having much to it, a lot of the other ones are pretty decent.

As for Punch Out, that too is a pretty good game though you pretty much only have the first and second bouts with all of the fighters.  They're a heck of a lot harder the second time around, though once you're done... you're done.  WSR I'd say has much more replayability to it. Save Punch Out til it drops in price or something.

Otherwise, if you haven't played all or any of the Metroid Prime games, Metroid Prime Trilogy comes out later this month.
