Wolverine:

Iron Man:

Wolverine and Iron Man are getting animes.  You may be thinking to yourself "how is this any different from The Animatrix or that Batman one," well the difference is that these are being developed as 12-episode series for Japan instead of as Direct-To-DVD features.  Is this a good thing?  Who knows :fogetshrug:
The animation is being done by Madhouse but it is mostly being written by Warren Ellis.  These two animes are set to premier in Japan for the Spring 2010 anime season.
There are two more Marvel animes in the works, but they haven't been announced yet.  Bets are that one of them is not going to be Captain America in WW2 beating up Japs.

imo the animation from the above trailers looks pretty good, but I wish the characters didn't look so tall and thin (especially Wolverine, whose claws also look like they're coming out of his palms or something).  Wolverine fighting ninjas in Japan is a pretty standard thing for him, but Iron Man fighting caped pirates is pretty weird.

I hate anime.

I fucking hate anime..

But I like Warren Ellis, and when Western writers are writing anime, I'd give it a chance. After all, I loved Afro Samurai. Now the Iron Man trailer, I think it looks fantastic, the style works very well and it's just real sleek and versatile. It's nice. The Wolverine, like everyone I'm not digging the look of Logan, seems more like Daken to me, but it's typical Wolverine fare and I'm not expecting anything worth watching.

EDIT:
quote from Warren Ellis
Quote
This is the second of the two teaser pieces shown at San Diego on Friday. This is the test animation for the IRON MAN anime series I’m writing, produced for the south east Asian market. Note test animation: it’s intended to show off the style of the piece only. Nothing in here reflects the actual content, just the design and the aesthetic and the animation. The only character in this piece that is in the actual series is Iron Man himself, okay?
I bet he was fully aware that fanboys would be bitching about the pirates.

this is so good, the wolverine one especially. but really, these are exactly what you would expect from something "made into anime."

24 frames of animation per second, not that you'd be able to tell.

Iron Man is looking good. but they over anime-ed Wolverine. He has no chin stubble and looks WAY to thin and clean.

ALSO: Speaking of Anim-ized stuff have you guys heard about Halo Legends? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRXe6Utdtvs (note its the only trailer so far, and unfortunately its kind of lite on actual footage of the anime)

I hate anime but I hate these two even more. The Wolverine one is just total and utter rape and the Iron Man, while much more acceptable, is still just horrible.

At least the last time the tried this the character still resembled himself.

I like how they made a show all about the most distinctive looking character in marvel comic book history, and ended up taking every last bit of that away from him in order to do it.

Wait, that's not what I like at all.

What I like is that they did that, and still expect people to take the resulting show seriously.

haha at Wolverine

yeah this is pretty awful but at least it actually has ANIMATION unlike most anime

I actually liked the Animatrix

like pretty much every time something is halfway good they sell out with like 3 or 4 other things. Like I still think I'd semi-enjoy Cowboy Bebop today but was that SAMURAI SHAMPOO or whatever any good or just the usual anime dickery

Wolverine one was pretty terrible, but the Iron Man one looked alright if you're into that sort of bullshit (which I'm not)

That applies to most of all animation, not just anime. The ironic thing is that they get away with it the most often precisely because they belong to a genre with the highest ratio of series in which the animators get to actually animate anymore. You slap big eyes on the face, and it's easy to just assume it's animated well and be a die-hard fan of it without even really watching it.

Regarding your Samurai Champloo question, If you like things that move well and things that involve sword action, you'll like it. The show has little to offer beyond those two things. Whether or not that counts as anime dickery is up to the discretion of the person using the term.

I'm pretty sure something like KING OF THE HILL is better animated even though of all people they really shouldn't give two shits about the animation. But really I remember one episode where someone just randomly scratched their ass in the middle of a conversation or the dog licked itself and it was amazing

Yeah, the attention to detail is really the #1 factor to good animation. It's easy to spot no matter what style is being drawn in aswell. Mike Judge was a genius when it came to pulling details from real life and putting them to animation for reasons that never seem outright or apparent.

this looks like it was animated on a computer anyway so there's no need to skip frames anyhow. this is dumb!!!
