I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was glad that the message was still there without being overbearing and preachy.

Not every movie has to contain every class of race/sex and yeah their are a ton of stereotypes out there but for good reason, they exist.

I just came back from seeing this and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I liked how it wasn't your typical american hero action movie which I find annoying. The main character was a refreshing breath of fresh air and I really liked the use of documentary style. At first I was a little taken aback by the lack of closure at the end, but now that I've thought about it it makes sense the way it ended. The film asks us to reflect on the way we treat others and to think of the consequences of our actions. Because we aren't shown whether Overall, this whole movie kind of reminded me of an episode of the Outer Limits, which I love, so I really enjoyed it!

The witch doctor stuff doesn't have anything to do with race ftr. I've seen stuff on johannesburg a few times before and each time there was mention of that voodoo monkey brain crap.

The movie definitely had racism but it really seemed to be necessary to the plot as opposed to secretly bashing some race.

Also, forget district 9, are there even asian people in Johannesburg?

Saw this yesterday. It was technically very well made and it definitely didn't suck by any means, but something about it left me cold... I'm not quite sure what, though. There's nothing specific that I disliked, but I left the theatre feeling mostly indifferent.

I hated the lead character, though. Ultimate douche. However, Christopher and baby prawn were the best thing that's ever happened to cinema.
I agree. The movie was just slightly off somehow -- but I can't tell what it was either. The beginning didn't really catch on because it was hand-wavy. Main character was all over the place. Lots of suspense and action and good ol' retribution, but not very memorable imo.

Fuckin' prawns.

konix, you have to realize though that these aliens weren't exactly the top of their species intellectually. While we're never given confirmation, the movie does suggest that they were all lowly workers, on a mining vessel sent to harvest minerals from planets. They were malnourished when they got stuck on earth, and humans did provide for them nourishment, and once they got a taste of catfood they were exploited out of their weaponry and technology. They were pretty much all about survival and that point (which is logical when you're on a foreign planet occupied by billions of other inhabitants) and once they were stripped away from the advantages they once held over humanity they were just like caged animals.

As to why they were confined, I think it's pretty obvious. If an spaceship of aliens landed over earth and we had the means to cage them, that's exactly what we'd do. We're all about segregation and keeping out the unknown from harming us.

I agree. A sequel would completely ruin the ending of the film.

It would fuck it completely. I doubt that Blomkamp is going to do a sequel, he knows better than that.

I really enjoyed this film but I feel this thread has too much cynicism towards it. Kinda juvenile really when you consider if there is really any need for that. You know - when people bitch about things to sound clever, just because they can?
I would watch a sequel.

Here is a picture of me vomiting on your negative posts:  :blarg:

just saw this. it was pretty good, the message was a little heavy handed and there were some plot holes but it was definitely an enjoyable movie.
