so i went and saw Ponyo today and i thought it was fantastic



Ponyo is the story of a young fish-girl who desperately wants to become human so she can live with the boy she's fallen in love with. (wait, wasn't there another Disney movie like this? something about a Little Mermaid... :P ) However, she can't be a creature of both magic and humanity, and she disrupts the balance of nature by trying to do so. it's up to the boy, Sousuke, to find a way to make them both happy.
it's a very cute story. :3


it's not quite as awesome (or dark) as other Miyazaki movies, but it is top-notch cute. the underwater scenes are beautiful, too. it's up there as one of my favorite anime movies, along with Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Paprika (seems like a lot of favorites but it's really not when you consider how many i've seen).

I want to see it. I don't like some of the stupid voice actors and how disney is marketing it

stupid voice actors. but voice-acting by disney for other miyazaki films has typically been done well so i'm guessing that the voices i hear in this movie aren't going to make my ears melt or anything like that.

Am I the only one who really has absolutely no problem with the voice cast? I mean come on, Liam Neeson was incredible in Fallout 3, Matt Damon in Titan A.E. what's the big deal? Sure they're some siblings of disney peeps but at least they're not actually THEM.

noah cyrus and frankie jonas are what stand out, but some of the other ones probably aren't that good either

massy the ghibli movies usually have quality dubs. some of the subs are bad though, the one I had for kiki had a lot of awful added dialogue.

Just saw it a few hours ago.  I was absolutely in love with it.  I swear I had an almost constant smile on my face throughout the whole thing, I also really like that it had a very old feel to it despite being completely new.  I don't know what much to say about it except that it was beautiful.  Also, I have no idea why anyone would complain about the voice actors--sure, some of the people involved are horrible BUT their voices aren't the problem, it's just THEM.  If people didn't know who the voice actors were they'd have zero things to complain about.

Also my first thought when I saw the voice actor list was "geez this movie must have a lot of little old ladies in it with Betty White and Cloris Leechman" and SURPRISE there were tons of little old ladies in it.

Anyway it was just a very gr8 movie and I loved the whole thing DONE DEAL

i'm not complaining about voice actors; disney usually does a good job is what i'm saying. i haven't seen the movie yet so hopefully it's still good voicing. i'm sure i will enjoy it though. i like miyazaki.

These are okay movies to watch if

1) You are a girl
2) You are with a girl who wants to see them

I watched Mononoke (sp), Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. While watchable, I wouldn't go out of my way to see them. However I am sure I will see this when my gf buys the DVD eventually.

i saw princess mononoke and it was okay. probably the least gay anime i've seen.

Princess Mononoke is the worst ghibli film I've seen. the deer god is really funny.
