Back when I was 16 I played a lot of CS and my clan leader had a gf who was on ventrilo a lot. She was 18 and kinda pissed off because her bf played too much CS. We spoke a lot online and eventually she travelled down from Scotland and we hung out for a few days and declared our idiotic love for each other. This is the one and only time I have experienced this strange online-love thing and I have to say the whole MEETING someone for the first time like that after all that time of speaking online is nerve-racking cause of all the self conscious expectations. We broke up when she went back and my parents realised that the internet had slowly taken over my life, so they took it away by simply not paying for it and we lost interest in each other like kids do I guess.

It was bizarre and has not happened since. It was very new at the time as not many people had the internet, back in 2003 and meeting people online was kinda a media-scare area so it's no wonder my parents were concerned when they clocked on to what was happening.

I have been in a pretty complicated online relationship sorta with a girl that I eventually got to meet in real life, she was pretty great but since she's moving to another city far far away we decided to just stay friends. Bummer.

I almost met a girlfriend online but it turns out she was a real hoe bag so I ran for the hills (plus my brother went out with her friend who he also met online so she had been in my house before I met her online which was trippy as fuck!)

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.
