(Some of you guys probably prefer to call it football, myself included, but I like using the word soccer ironically and I don't really want a big debate about WHICH SPORT IS FOOTBALL)

Does anyone here like soccer?  I know there are a few brits on here who follow soccer. Some guys just watch their international team in the World Cups or the Euros or other international competitions.  Aaaand some guys just prefer other sports!

I personally love soccer. I'm a big fan of a team called Fulham who play in the EPL (English Premier League, which is the same league Manchester United and Liverpool and the teams you guys stateside have probably heard of play in.) I tend to go to matches every single time we play at home and have done for the past few years. I just love the atmosphere, the stadium (if you could call it a stadium) and watching some of the world's best players play the world's best game. There I said it, it's the world's best game. The reason I believe this is because following soccer is a real rollercoaster. Sometimes your team is terrible, other times your team can be unstoppable. You can totally outplay the other team and still end up losing. I love the air of unpredictability of soccer. You can beat Manchester United one week and then go out to a non-league team in the cup the next week. That's what I get out of it anyway! Some people just don't get it!

So, do any of you guys like soccer? Maybe you don't. Tell me why. Which teams or players do you guys like? Who will win the MLS, the EPL, the World Cup or the Conference South?

Pretty broad topic. Bring into it what you will.

Ps - I apologise to any brits who had to read this and suffer reading words like SOCCER and EPL.

I support Tottenham Hotspur. I'm not a GO TO GAME EVERY WEEK fan but I'll watch my team on TV when I have the time. We've made a great start to the season. Jermain Defoe is on fire right now!

I tip Chelsea to win this year. Its looking different this time round; it's not just Liverpool/Man U/Arsenal/Chelsea dominating everything, teams like Spurs and Man City look to be in with a shout as well (Man City unsurprising considering how much money they spent on transfers...)

I recently discovered that I thoroughly enjoy this sport.  However, it's kind of weird becoming a fan of a sport later in life (most of the people I know who are into sports were born to a team and have liked it their whole life).  Like, most adults don't really have to CHOOSE A TEAM for example.  And, living in Kentucky, it's not like I can just go with the local team.  So right now I am just sort of watching every game I can find on TV (hint: not a lot here) and trying to find someone to follow.  Frankly, sports are a LOT more interesting if you give a fuck over who you want to win.  I thought HEH I'LL FOLLOW ICELAND WHY NOT but as it turns out their games are very hard to find online, idk why.  Guess nobody cares unless they're opposing a team someone cares about.  I could only find highlights of Iceland v Norway from last week or the week before or whatever it was, whereas I can find torrents for other matches.  On TV the best I can hope for is seeing EPL matches two or three days after they happen.  So, I am in a weird area of football fandom right now, a mere babe in this sports world....what awaits me?  I do not know.  But I like it.  It is good.

I saw soccer on the index page and parped my britches.

In other news I support Liverpool FC and my current fave player is Yossi Benayoun who scored a hat-trick for us against Burnley the other day.

I watched Fulham beat Everton in the pub yesterday because I hate evertonians and it was good to see them all suffer.

Jesus I take this far too seriously.

I am getting FIFA 10 on preorder.

I wish I played it when I was younger because I'd like to play it now.  Me and a friend of mine play "let's kick a ball back and forth" but we don't know enough people (who aren't horribly opposed to physical activity) to actually play a game.  I don't think I'm physically fit enough to just join a regular team for people my age.

It's good if you have a park nearby that has goalposts cause then you can take penalties. That is much fun indeed :D

finally a topic I can post in regularly

so I am a big Birmingham City fan. ) we have started okay this season and are hella solid defensively but for some reason Christian Benitez can't get a start and thus we cannot score goals. luckily i am pretty used to disappointment because we have won one trophy ever my first proper football memory is losing the 2001 league cup final (thx a lot ed)

gj against Everton yesterday, clearly got the class to do well again this season, much bigger squad too. Duff is a big buy. I have a big ol' soft spot for Fulham because I really like Roy Hodgson, Craven Cottage is one of the nicest old-fashioned grounds in the country and they have some gr9 players. great to see them qualify for Europe, lets see how they do :D

FUCK AARON LENNON FOREVER I WANT THAT POINT BACK no I will stop being bitter right here. Tottenham are pretty much shit hot at the moment but how will they do without the creative force of Modric? sorry for breaking him at least it wasn't on purpose this time

I support the Toronto FC who, by European standards, are awful. However, by North American standards they're pretty decent! We didn't have a football club for many years in Toronto, so now that we do have one it is very exciting. Tickets are extremely expensive for games so I've only been to one and I am not really SPORTS FAN guy so I don't follow it as closely as you Brits do, but I really like having a team here and watch whenever I get a chance to.

Plus we totally scored when we faced Man U a couple weeks ago in a friendly. It was only one goal, but whatever we still scored! (I hate Man U so this is a good thing). I don't really support anyone in the EPL because I have no connection to any of them, but I do like the teams that aren't richer than god who still manage to do well. This eliminates the big ones since I think trillion dollar teams can fuck right off, but I do really enjoy watching Fulham and Tottenham and mid-league teams, since I find the quality of football is more enjoyable and more identifiable.

edit: By which I mean they aren't 100% great or lazy gits, there is a middle ground that they play at that is fun to watch

Rockman we deserved the 3 points and you know it. Crouch could have scored at least 4 in that game. You were defiant but we got what we wanted!

As for losing Modric, it's a big blow, he's a demon in the midfield. We don't have anyone up to his standard of wizardry but I'm sure we'll get by for a while. We've got a solid midfield even without him, with players like Lennon and Palacios. I can see us getting top 4 this season provided we don't get hit badly by injuries. We don't have European football to worry about so that's a bonus.

As for Football Manager, I have last years version and I was addicted to it for a while but now I'm bored of it.

I'm gutted about Modric, he's in my dream team. I've always rated him, even if he is a funny looking bloke. I think Tottenham COULD break into the top 4 this season. Having the burden of Europe has really done you guys some damage in the past and I think you're a lot better off without it. I didn't want Fulham to qualify for Europe and I think it'll hurt us a lot this season.

Good to see some people across the pond who have an interest in the beautiful game. I've got 2 words to say. Brian McBride. Absolute hero.

on that logic the final score should've been 20-11 but that's not really how it works

I've played 09 which was p. fun and am currently playing FM Live.  Live is a lot more fun because OTHER PEOPLE and the customization.

My friend lives near a catholic school that shut down recently, we might go there sometime and use their field.  I wish goalposts weren't so expensive because I'd just buy some, I have a big yard so the only thing I'm missing are goal posts.  Though sometimes we do use two trees that are roughly the correct distance apart, but you can't really account for going over the goal that way.

When I was a kid we used to play it with balls or rocks or cans or anything else, but then I grew up and realized how stupid it was so I hate it now. Whenever there is an "important" game going on people will scream really loudly if some team scores a goal and they'll use fireworks in the end so it's very annoying. It's a dumb sport for dumb people.
