Basically the researchers tied a 4 gb flash drive to a pigeon and then it flew the data to the destiny in less than half the time it took to send it over the normal internet wires. This is a big deal as the cost of flash memory continues to decrease as the memory density increases and the pigeons consume far less resources to fly from point a to b than it takes to send all that data through the wires. Homing pigeons certainly won't replace the regular wired internet but several government agencies all over the world expressed interest in this technology that was around several thousand years before the internet was invented.

Your thoughts about it?

Also technical stuff on the carrier pigeon internet protocol:

Excellent. I can finally illustrate my anger for my boss by feeding my pigeon extra pellets and sending a memo his way.

Yeah I like how none of this bothers to mention that this took place in SOUTH AFRICA.

But, it is worth pointing out that only 4% of the data managed to be sent in the two hours it took the pigeon to reach its destination.

I saw this earlier. Even if it does work (see above -- it doesn't), it's ridiculous to say that it's viable (it's not).

Dude the brittish only won world war 2 due to homing pigeons, do you really think they don't work?

And there are 128 gb flash cards out there

Plus you could send multiple pigeons for a massive bandwidth increase
