the real world is still on tv, firefly isn't. don't you realize the large number of good ideas for shows that never made it past one season? or the awful shows that are going into their 8th season? it's like this more than it's not

Finally, something we can agree on!
Most of the shows I really enjoyed died after one season. I actually became superstitious about it at one point. I remember watching the first couple episodes of House when it came out, and then making an effort
not to watch it the rest of that season, because I figured "eh, I'll get hooked, and it'll get taken off the air, like usual."
Well, it seems to have worked, because House is still on tv, even after I caught up with the first season in re-runs.
Two of the casualties - Dresden Files (not as good as the books, but pretty entertaining) and the U.S. version of Touching Evil (with Jeffery Donovan), weren't that lucky.
As for Fast Forward - I described it as "The post-Lost version of Lost" to someone today. If they have a finite number of episodes planned, maybe two seasons (three would probably be pushing it), they might be able to keep it interesting. Lost was interesting at the beginning, but, to me, it just became 'random tangent to stretch the story' and 'attempt to tie every tangent back into the main story so that it LOOKS like we knew what we were doing all along.'
The more interesting, and/or original, the initial premise, the harder it seems to be to keep it going. This could be why bad shows seem to go on ad infinitum, the premise is so simple that it takes virtually no effort to stretch it out mindlessly?
