Oh fuck I think I might have ear problems I never knew about.

Often when I blow my nose I feel like air is coming out. Sometimes, once in a while over the years or months or weeks, sometimes long period in between sometimes nothing i hear the rings and stuff. I'm kinda sensitive to really loud noises like people throwing down a large pile of textbooks on tiled flooring or hitting a toilet seat and it falling really loud.

I don't think tinnitus is something that can spontaneously appear, I think it's something that develops over time. If the problem persists you should definitely talk to a doctor, but I don't think you really need to worry about this at uh, 20 years old. Also, before you assume this is tinnitus, I'm pretty sure there are a few illnesses that are similar to but not the same as tinnitus.

Tinnitus is not a disease or illness.

It can spontaneously appear, but I heard that it can never go away ever - if it is actually tinnitus and not something else.

I remember that my elementary school teacher got permanent tinnitus because someone threw an eraser right past her ear. The sound it gave off supposedly caused it somehow.

Haha weirdly that's how I feel at the moment!

I went to the doctors and yup I was right Perforated Ear Drum. He said I was lucky as it's pretty small and will heal with no damage.

Tinnitus is a symptom of other conditions. It can go away, sometimes even spontaneously, however a lot of people live with tinnitus that has no known cause. There are some treatments, but success varies per treatment and treatment varies per cause.

Exactly. I have dealt with tinnitus at various points in my life. i had it for a year straight when i was 12, and it was horrible. i had some sort of treatment back then i think?? mostly i just remember being unable to sleep for the first few days and i gradually was able to sleep while listening to music, drowning out the sound. i get it sometimes now but only when i'm stressed and then it goes away within a day usually
semper games.

Or it could be... you know... tinnitus. A ringing isn't necessarily caused by damage or 'ear cells dying.'

It can, it will develop over time if you're just constantly subject to high noises, listening to your ipod way too much etc, OR, you can get it immediately and permanently from things like a slap, gun fired close to your ear, or even an airplane flying close.

Also tinnitus heals more often than not (depending on what severity you would classify as tinnitus). If you're careful and stay away from high noises and your goddamn ipod it can heal within the span of a year. If your condition has not improved in a year it is probably permanent.

A side note is you can get it even from low background noise if subject to it for a long time! If you work at a construction site, a factory, an airfield etc, wear ear mufflers. If you work in the music industry? you fucked son, 75% of people in the music industry have tinnitus.

Also Afura you most likely do not have tinnitus, it should go away in some days or weeks unless you have a perforated ear drum. Nevertheless you definitely should go to a doctor!

Fuck life, does this mean I may have it semi-permanently?

Almost two weeks ago I woke up with about 60% of my hearing in my left ear gone. I've had headaches ever since but I'm determined not to go to a doctor, hate seeing doctors. Hopefully the ear drops I bought from the chemist should help.

very VERY good idea mister, five thumbs out of five

yeah ok thanks for info.
also i bet i got permanent SOMETHING because when i sleep i hear this sort of high radio frequency stuff in my ears/right ear?!? and it's definitely not my electronics who do it (i hear it while i close my ears). it's not a wonder since i'm on my computer+headphones+music for the most of the day so weeeeeelp.

also to those who are worried over the "lame flashbang effect" in either ears: it's completely normal and propably healthy, it's just ears calibrating. i can't really say else since it's just something my vocal teacher mentioned during one class.

I knew what you were talking about, it's just shocking; the amount of times I've heard people actual say that and believe it. There may be some credibility to it, but for the most part nobody has any idea what they are talking about.

idk man when you study sound engineering it relates to sound which in turn is there for people to hear

so basically you have to have an understanding of how people hear

???

makes alot of sense to me
