you can begin to see the differences in how people study and take tests by how they respond to this problem.
I would have figured she wanted me to say true. that's how I take tests, I answer questions how I think the professor wants me to answer them. it's not an ideal method but I find it's the most reliable. studying/testing doesn't really help me retain material anyway
yeah, this is what i came here to post. as a student, some of the most important things you can learn are how to manipulate teachers and how to think like other people do. to do well on a test, you don't even necessarily have to know the material if you just really know the teacher and you understand the methods used to create the questions.
if i was given that question, i would have known what was expected. most teachers would probably think of "true" as being correct. and i mean, it pretty much is. even if the question seems controversial or ambiguous in your mind, you have to think, "would the teacher really think so deeply into this question like i am? would they recognize that the statement is not always true?" and probably the teacher wrote the sentence in a few seconds as a quick point on the test (maybe to make it an even 50 questions or something; i mean come on, it's a true/false question--those are pretty much just filler), not really thinking about it. as the person taking the test, you obviously will think more carefully about the questions, and a good test-taker would know when or when not to examine problems closely. if your teacher stressed the point in class or you know the teacher to be a clever, sneaky person who wants you to fail, then you would have to assume the answer to a controversial/ambiguous question would be the one that is less obvious.
EDIT: so yeah the best thing to do is to go to the teacher and be like "um hey can i ask you about one of the test questions? i don't mean to be fussy about this, but i wanted to point out that narcotic use does not lead directly to addiction in some cases, and the question could probably have been written in a less ambiguous way...". learn to manipulate people and suck up to them and you will do better in life
EDIT2: plus, what kind of psych class are you taking? with questions like that it must be super easy. i mean, i'm taking a basic psychology class right now (high school, senior level. i'm taking AP psych next year when i'm a junior), and it's probably harder than what you're doing... yet i can't imagine ever getting a 75% on a psych test. and then your first instinct is to pick out an easy question that you missed and act all pissy about it on the internet? i don't really want to seem degrading here but umm you are a child.
